Following yesterday's news that most diesel cars in Wales are now running on cooking oil, what is the best type to use? Is it ok just to fill up with the cheapo Asda own brand, or should I go for the more expensive stuff from Marks and Spenser? Also is it true that Fiats run better on extra virgin olive oil?

While driving the "engine management light was on constantly (after it wouldnt start)  I have put multi meter on battery which reads 12.7volts when not running, 14.4volts when running and a very strange 8.3 volts when the ignition is turned on but engine not running. This tells me the alternator is working as voltage goes up to 14.4 when engine running.
  • Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 98 1.4 unusual overheating prob 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The problem now is that from cold or when the engine has been allowed to cool down for 40 minutes or more on running it the temperature goes well into the danger zone and coolant boils over from the expansion tank. Immedately that happens the temp drops to usual running temp and runs as normal with no overheating, but if I let the engine cool down and top up again the problem occurs again.
  • Towing as part of the running-in process 3 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I'll be using motorways to Dover, then auto-routes to Geneva & beyond, about a thousand miles to the Alps which the Xantia does 90% in 5th. Then we usually have about 1000 miles running around, and another thousand home. Nicely run in when I get back, or not! Thoughts, please, gentlemen. Cheers 'n Beers Nigel
  • Low budget, cheap to run, 90s car wanted! 18 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Some Escorts are 1.6L which I'll assume would be costlier and have lower MPG? I'm sure a Nova or Corsa would be cheap to run but are they decent cars? The Mk1 Clio also irks my interest but I'm a bit concerned about French unreliability. I wanna ask what you people think of these cars. My standards are very low, all I want is a very cheap (but recognisable) car to run with a high fuel economy.
