Holden closing down 20 Feb 2020 (Forum)
GM has just announced that it is closing down its Australian, New Zealand and Thailand operations. It closed its Australian factories a couple of years ago and relied on imports which have not sold well. Holden was always a well loved Australian brand and had a fierce rivalry with Ford, more like the enthusiasm that people show for football teams. It is going to be greatly missed. -

Rascal 329LE - Mobility Scooter help please. 16 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Manufacturer fails to respond, importer and local dealers all clueless. Based in SW England but can post unit to someone having the equipment and knowledge. -
Waiting with a TC automatic gearbox 3 Dec 2015 (Forum)
[endif]--> When you get to a set of lights which are on red, you can leave the gearbox in Drive and wait there with your foot on the brake, rather than engage Neutral and put the handbrake on. What's happening in the gearbox when you do that and are there any important long-term consequences? I know some people get annoyed by brake lights in front of them in this scenario, but I don't, so I'm not interested in a discussion on that aspect. -

Mitsubishi ASX - The ASX unsung SUV 29 Jul 2013 (Forum)
HJ did a really positive write up of this great all round SUV Unfortunately all the major mags just don't bother to compare it with the bigger punching manufacturers such as Mazda Nissan and Honda. It has many great features but the most important for many must be that it is narrower and a proper in town car as well as being very capable off road. I think motoring journalists are too fond of the big names. DD -

Any recommendations for a £6k diesel estate? 8 May 2009 (Forum)
Any suggestions welcome, at the moment I'm thinking of a Skoda Octavia ( but not a former taxi hack!) or a Focus estate. Reliability and longetivity are more important to us than looks or performance. Cheers! -
Car for five adults ? 13 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I like to think I'm fairly knowledgable about cars but I wasn't sure what to suggest for this dilemma - Budget about £10K for a newish car, annual mileage about 12K, as compact and economical as possible but will be required for regular 2/3 hour motorway trips with five full size adults, two of the passengers fairly elderly so comfort is very important. Otherwise not very interested in cars. What would you suggest? -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Petrol the best bet? 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Is the petrol a better buy, would be for low mileage per annum (school run + annual hols) so MPG not too important. My neighbours had 4 with little problems but all of them petrols, thoughts anyone?? -
Wheel alignment mystery 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
A red light flashes, and the (very relaxed) technician walks about a bit and moves the car a bit, and the queue builds up outside, but what is really happening? Do we need to pay for this? I'd feel happier if I could be assured that something REALLY IMPORTANT is going on! -
Alfa Romeo - Mad? 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I know the reputation but they are just soooooo pretty. My budget would cater for a 2000 model and I would make sure the all important belt change had been carried out - along with a clutch if possible..! So, am I mad? -
Focus - Cloth to Leather seat conversion 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I have been offered a full set of leather seats for my car ('99 Ford Focus MK1 2.0l Zetec Ghia), I assume fittings will be exactly the same, but the more important question is: would the heated part of the seats be a plug in affair? i.e. would there already be wiring in place for it, and does anyone with a focus know what switches / knobs there are to control the heat (are they on/off or thermostat controlled?) -
Different perspective 25 Sep 2006 (Forum)
They still seem firmly wedded to buying gas-guzzlers despite the clear indications that more fuel-efficient vehicles such as Japanese manufacturers supply are the way forward. I think Ford should be ditching their current range in favour of importing (or locally manufacturing) versions of their Euro lineup. Fewer 20mpg machines and more 40 mpg ones. -
standing still 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I've been watching a BMW 528 for nearly a year now on a local forecourt, it's that lovely light green, S reg and in good nick but no-one's buying. It started at 6295 and is now down to 4995 but the important thing is it never moves. Does there come a point where a car is so used to doing nothing that all the parts stop working? Could a car that's stood for a year be a reliable one or is is fatally damaged. -
£3k car to do all... 15 Mar 2006 (Forum)
You've got a regular commute of an hour motorway, forty-five minutes country roads, and half hour through town so not just handling but ride is important too. It's cheap-to-run, and fits for four/five people with a decent sized boot. You need the basic luxuries, a/c, CD, elec wins etc... What 3 cars would you choose for you shortlist? -
Car Inspection Companies 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Need to check a car (a Japanese import) which is 150 miles away and don't have time/inclination to go there and do it myself. Anyone got any feedback on these companies: Vehicle Condition Specialists Car Inspection Company Unipart Car Inspection (take car to nearby Unipart service 'shop and they inspect for £99). -
No History 19 Aug 2004 (Forum)
But the fact it has no history bothers me a bit - should it? There's no warranty on it as it was an import bought from motorpoint. I guess if we paid for a check to be done then they wouldn't be able to verify the mileage as its never been serviced or mot'd?? Would that be correct?
