  • What sports saloon 5-7k 6 Nov 2006 (Forum)
In turn, this means that I can't afford to buy any of the cars I had my eye on (Alfa 156 GTA, Volvo S60R, Volvo S40T5) as I don't really want to get any finance, and they're all £10k+ So, with the following criteria, what possible cars are there for me? Price: £5-7k 4 or 5 door Reasonably pacey. I'm not too into speed, but I reckon if it was a lot slower than the Coupe I'd find it irritating.
  • Newer 4x4 Ideas? 24 Jan 2006 (Forum)

  • Moron flatmate sells car without V5 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The car in question in this doesn't and didn't belong to me. A friend of mine works long hours in the finance industry in the West End and lives in Essex. He owned a fairly tired 89 Sapphire 2000E that he arranged to sell for £100. Unfortunately, he couldn't be there when the buyer came to view the car and so left it to his flatmate.
  • Buying a Pre-Reg'd car 17 Dec 2004 (Forum)
So if I decide to buy a car in the next few weeks whether it be this or something else, what are the recommended 'tricks' to get the best deal/lowest price that I can? It will be a straight cash deal, no finance or part exchange.
  • Changing cars, but not p/xing. Options? 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Especially if the price means that I need the money from selling the Alfa to afford the new Coupe? Some sort of bridging loan (possibly on top of finance if I choose to go that way)? A deposit on the Fiat with an agreement to pay balance and pick up car in x days? (But how likely is a seller to agree to that?) I'm sure plenty of other people have been in this situation, how did you deal with it?
  • Renault Selections PCP 27 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I have been looking into trading my Scenic in for a new model, (6 months old used model) however conventional finance is too dear for me just now. Dealer is trying to push me onto Selections saying that there are sweetners from renault and giving me the usual sales pitch. I must admit it sounds good but a couple of things make me wary 1.
  • Pretty poor salesmen 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
( Yarises) , agreed a good deal on the extras she wanted , allowed an immediate no strings test drive on a busy Saturday and didn't try to stitch her up on the finance... Mind you he didn't get the chance because she'd done all her homework and was prepared with the right questions. The loser was the dealer who persisted in ignoring her and talking to me as if she didn't exist.
  • Berlingo MUltispace/Partner Combi 25 Nov 2002 (Forum)
The Pug Partner Combi HDI is more expensive, but the basic model comes with more gizmos, and cheaper add-ons (nearly £200 less to add ABS). Best of all though is that Peugeot are offering a 0% finance deal over three years, with a deposit of £1500. On this basis, the Pug is better value. We actually have enough cash, but this will save us more in lost interest than our estimated bangernomics replace and/or repair budget of £500 per annum, and we are very tempted.
  • Leon Cupra for £4000 2 Sep 2002 (Forum)
A fellow SEAT owners club member has a 2001 X-reg Cupra in Flash red, it is his company car, but the company has about 4 months to go before it goes under. By this time the car will have 8 months finance owing at £500 per month, i.e, £4000. It has been suggested I maybe able to buy the car, which would amount to just paying the remaining £4000 off. Now the downside, it will have done about 100,000 - 110,000 miles by the end of this year, although it has spent most of that on Motorways.
  • Focus for Accord update 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Told him I'd think it over then decided thanks but no thanks. He phones me back yesterday offering me a great finance deal "to help me out". What's the interest rate I ask? 5% he says then gives me the monthly repayments. Tell him I'll think about it again then work out the repayment figures he's given me are more like 10%APR.
  • Honda Jazz, Nissan Juke - Jazz to Juke, maybe 31 Jan 2024 (Forum)
According to Autotrader, a decent-looking 2019 model can be bought for between 9 and 10 grand, which would be affordable if a) we can achieve a decent part-ex for our Jazz and b) if I can save the rest (because I won't be taking out finance). I'm about two thirds of the way to the savings target and barring emergencies, expect to be in a position to buy around May.  So, any info, criticism, praise or otherwise for the Nissan Juke would be appreciated.
  • Dacia Duster - Parts problen 14 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I have complained to Renault and I had an enlightening conversation in which he said there isn't anything they can do. I suggested being compensated by Dacia for the three months I was paying the finance agreement and unable to use the vehicle. Their response was less than forthcoming. I asked to speak to the manager and he refused. Unbelievable. I am quite frankly furious about the whole situation and I just wanted to ask advice about what to do next because it is unacceptable I have been left in this situation.
  • Honda Jazz - Cat N concealed by dealer 14 Apr 2021 (Forum)
However, after I paid the deposit the dealer then mentioned that they do not have the car logbook as it was returned from a finance company. After speaking with a friend I did some research after this and paid for a full HPI check and it turns out that the car is a category N write off, which was not disclosed - and I have since discovered that this would be shown on the logbook..
  • Suzuki Baleno - Diminution in value after paint job 16 Mar 2020 (Forum)
The Suzuki rejection saga continues.  After six weeks +, the finance co./bank have told me that they are to instruct a company to inspect the car.  I understand that the company (Dekra) is quite well-known and well-regarded, and I await contact from them. In the meantime, a local chap has had a look at the car for me.
  • Volkswagen Polo GTI - PCP - trade in early or not? 30 Jan 2017 (Forum)
They are currently phasing out the old model so have a good deal on it at the minute, 0% Apr and 2000 deposit contribution means I'd pay roughly £40 a month more than do for the polo.  Problem is my car has been valued at £300 less than I owe on the finance. Not a huge issue but I got the gti over the bluegt as the residuals were hopefully a lot better. Just don't want to lose out if it's likely to balance out more over the next 12 months and swing the other way.
  • Road tax 3 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Over two weeks later, I ask for a full refund when they said that the car was miraculously fixed but it wasn't and I was given a full refund and I even had to sort out the part finance agreement which was a complete headache and they should have resolved it on my behalf so I was told. My issue however is that the dvla have sent a cheque to me (in my name) for a refund of road tax and the dealer are becoming quite aggressive and everyday asking for their money back!!
  • VW Polo 1.0 SE 75 PS - Another PCP Dilemma - Over mileage charges 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Been trying to sell the car - offers of under £7,500. Can't really keep the car because of the miles I'm doing, won't reach 50% of the finance until another two years - in which I'll have done an estimated 50,000 miles - well over the agreed limit. Is there a way out of this situation other than getting a huge loan? Any help would be much appreciated.
  • Hyundai i30 - Hyundai i30 power steering failure 5 Jun 2015 (Forum)
They are 'opening a case' The problem is due to a break in communication involving a microchip in the steering column. Dealer has offered me £3k trade in - which is more or less what I still owe on finance! The job is going to cost around £1400, which I can't afford. Any suggestions please where I might find further evidence to support my case that Hyundai should contribute? Thanks, Carless of Torquay ??
  • Audi RSQ3 - audi warrant and insurance co. preferred repairers 26 May 2015 (Forum)
The vehicle is a 63 model, 9k on the clock. The vehicle has been bought on the equivalent of a personal finance scheme; bit up front monthly payments and then lump sum at end. What is my position in as far as I want the car to be repaired correctly and no comebacks and the warranty in tact?
