• Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 98 1.6 gti starting runing problems please help 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
  started fine and drove 400yards and just cut out and had 2 push home due to no chance of it starting. when you try starting it fires up then cuts outs almost instantly. runs with accelerator fully down but with max rpm 1500. Things tried; Replaced spark plugs Cleaned throttle body and idle control valve Disconnected the ECU overnight Re-connected ECU, car ran for short distance Idle ticked over - very erratic, then stalled when accelerator pressed. Towed home, have now replaced; Coolant temperature sensor. Engine starts, then cuts out almost instantly.

  It restarts immediately, or if the car is still moving can be bumped with it?s momentum. Whilst it?s doing this the yellow ecu warning light comes on, but goes out again. Sometimes it also pinks under high load, eg motorway hills, otherwise its a good motor. My instinct says a failing engine management sensor, but which one?

  I had an electrician look at it and he feels that the dash itself is fine and that the problem is more likely to be some form of software corruption caused by the clocking. But he does not know what controls the dash in the car. Can anyone tell me if it is the ECU or is there some other control module that runs it. I have been told by nearly every garage that volvo are the only people that will be able to help, but from the sounds of it a replacement ECU and their charges for labour, I will spend more than the car cost.

  I wondered about coolant temp sensor, but it seems to idle at about 1200 cold, dropping back to 800 or so when warm as expected, and doesn't seem to be using excessive fuel. Has the feel of an earth fault on the ECU to me, or maybe the ECU is developing a dry joint? Rather vauge set of symptoms I'm afraid, just wondering if anybody's got any thoughts to common weak points. -- RichardW Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

  Hello, My first ?modern? fuel injected ecu controlled car and here I am. I have a 96 Seat Cordoba which is running badly (erratic idling, loss of power, misfire, intermittent stoppage). Fault code reader gave ?throttle position sensor faulty?.

    Dealer's service desk talking of only replacing failed injector but I hear elsewhere that all 4 injectors should be replaced in this case with ECU calibration.  Any comments/advice?

  Is it possible to test my battery with a professional battery tester whilst the battery is in situ. I am concerned about damaging any ECU s etc. And if it needs changing what is the best method of bridging the voltage to prevent the radi losing its code?

    I've checked and cleaned the rear light clusters and checked the earth, ok.  Do you know it the ECU could be involved? :( Cheers, Camerart.

  When you switch the ignition on, the immobiliser light flashes fast and the mileage wont appear on the display. It just shows - - - - - - I have checked at all the plugs and tried another ecu but nothing seems to work

  I have a 1.6 litre old style vitara with a factory fitted immobilizer that cuts in randomly and leaves me stranded.I want to remove it but cant find a wiring diagram of this system.Can anyone help?the car is a 1995 8 valve petrol with a mitsubishi ECU. Thanks in advance, Simon.

  I have a Drapers Fault code reader and I can\'t seem to find the 2-Pin connector to check the fault code. I know it\'s green and supposed to be near the ECU or relay box. I have a Peugeot 306 1997 2.0 XSi 8v. Any help would be great.

  I think this may have been covered before, but can anyone advise me of the dangers of using jump leads and ECUs. I recently used a Micra to jump start another car and it later refused to start, and now runs badly. What could be the likely trouble? The hand book and workshop manuals detail the procedure, but give no disadvantages.

I am looking for suggestions for a replacement for an Mreg 2 liter Cavalier, same sort of size same sort of price but something that doesnt suffer an apparently unfixable problem when it hits 5 years and 80,000 miles. ...... or am I asking too much.

  I bought a Mazda 6 3 months ago. It was a pleasant car. But 3 weeks ago, DCS Light and ECU light comes on at the same time. I got it checked in Mazda dealer, they said it is the EGR Valve sticking and need cleaning. They reset the alarm and I drove back without get it cleaned straight away.

  However, this time the fault cleared itself after being turned off and allowed to "rest". The car was taken to a main dealer who interrogated the ECU and found that a "Lift sensor failure" had been recorded. They replaced the Lift sensor and also the engine speed sensor and cleared the fault code from the ECU. The car has since failed a further three times with the same syptoms!

  My sons corsa went into idle mode engine management light came on chap came out put on diagnostic said it needed new acceleration pedal £163 fitted that light still on still in idle mode now says could be ECU cost£700!!!!!!!!! Any comments?
