  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - Both cars damaged in driveway!! Advice needed... 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
His insurance company(third party) arranged the cars to be taken away and provided replacement vehicles. They have rang today giving me the following... 1. BMW e39 ('99) - is to be written off as the repair costs are to high. I will be given a good valuation in line with autotrader and can expect £3000. 2. BMW e60 ('04) - repair costs are too high at BMW and insurer is pleading that I get the repairs done at another garage as it will be cheaper.

  • BMW 2 230i or a 3.0 litre - Thinking of buying a BMW series 2 30 May 2023 (Forum)
I'm on the cusp of buying a BMW convertible , either 220i or 235/240i around the 2017 date. I have just had a quick test in 240i and I love it but the running costs are a tad worrying – I am now retired . The guy selling the car here in Purbeck is a mechanic with a small forecourt .
  • bmw 320d 2008 - bmw 320d timing chain, why did it fail? 16 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Best part of £2800 later and I had a repair on my engine and a new clutch. Up until last year i kept it serviced at my local Bmw dealer, when I bought the car at just over three years of age it had 63000 miles on it and fsh. It now has 110000 miles, I have never abused my car or not serviced it when required. Neither the garage in Cardiff (national engine centre) or Dick lovett BMW could satisfactorily expain to me why it broke other than technical mumbo jumbo.
  • BMW 5 series F10 535d - How often should I change the oil 1 Feb 2016 (Forum)
When I dropped it off on the day the receptionist again insisted the work wasn't necessary and I was told that BMW would not normally carry out unnecessary work.  As they had agreed to book in the car they then agreed to undertake it. Actual charge £210. I intend to service this car optimally and keep it for 10 years and 180-200,000 miles, can you advice the optimal oil change frequency - 7000 miles, 10,000, or advised by BMW.
  • BMW 3 Series Coupe (E46) - BMW 318CI Timing Chain Guide (N46 Engine) N46-20 7 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I don't see the point of a timing chain if it has to be repaired or replaced - may as well have a belt. Seems like very poor basic engine design by BMW.
  • New BMW X5 3 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The new X5’s exterior style is claimed to be ’36 percent more obnoxious’ and that, as a result, it will attract ‘almost twice as much new money’. BMW has been careful not to lose the distinctive X5 look, therefore ensuring that it will still be impossible to find someone who will let you out of a busy junction. Inside, BMW has made several detail improvements aimed at ghastly idiots including a driver’s seat carefully designed around the burly, low-browed man and interior colour schemes chosen not to clash with leopard print, gold jewellery and extremely orange skin.
  • BMW E39 523i - MOT Emmissions Failure - BMW E39 523i 11 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I have owned a BMW 523i for about 6 months now. Bought it as a stop gap when I gave back my company car till I could sort out a proper new car. Well, now I have bought myself a 59 plate Merc CLC and was going to put the Beemer through its MOT (which expires this week) and sell it.
  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - BMW Deals on the Web 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
No BMW guarantee but they give a 1 year warrantee and you can purchase a further two years for a sum. What?s the downside you seem to get a great speck car for a big saving however even in retirement I will do about 20K miles a year so I need to know it will not let me down.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 05 2.0 diesel heavy clutch pedal 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Its been 9 months now since i own this 2005 BMW 320 CD. 74K Genunine Milage...perfect drive...excellent handling..in short its fun to drive... The only thing I am not happy about is the clutch paddle!!...its heavy.....fews days back I drove a 54 Plate Passat 1.9 TDI... 6 speed manual...also drove an Audi A4..2.0 TDI with 6 Speed manual transmission...if I compare these VW clutches with my BMW....they are very soft and smooth...I even got my car Inspected by BMW dealership in Surrey and they said that 'working' of my clutch is fine...i never said that i have some issues with the working of the clutch..it works fine....gears are engaging fine...no vibration but the paddle is HEAVY!...
  • Mercedes E Class versus BMW 5 series basic models. 5 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have proof that Mercedes have now fixed their problems and I have also seen that BMW have fixed their problems with the 5 series. I have read that although very economical, the base 520 D BMW needs to be reved hard pulling away from traffic lights etc ( gearing may be too high)?I would definitely go for automatic with Mercedes.
