  • BMW heating problem 1 Mar 2006 (Forum)
the heating on my 5 series (S reg) has just packed up. I think it might be that the fans have failed as even on max I cannot get any airflow from the fans except on front windscreen demister, and even then it is cold The question is, does anyone know if this is likely to be an expensive repair job, or could it be quite simple?
  • Car Inspection Service 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Anyone know a car inspection service operating in Edinburgh operating at reasonable cost ? I tried to phone two listed in HJ?s FAQs (D.S. Crawford & Carscan) but the numbers are unobtainable. I?m looking for a small hatch for my daughter and I?ve just had a Micra inspected by the RAC, which I rejected because of a poor accident repair.
  • Older Drivers 17 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Living as i do in Bournemouth we have probably more elder rivers than other places (I am one-mid 70's). I do think we should be made to take a simple test to ensure we are still able to drive effectively. Filling in the form to say we are fit in the licence application is really not enough. How many of us has read the Highway Code since we passed our test(1952 i my case).
  • Nissan Anti Theft System 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I recently bought a 1997 Nissan Micra with an odd/incomplete set of locks. I can get a complete set from a scrapyard for £50. However I've been told...
  • Nissan Almera 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm looking at getting an Almera for my girlfiend. I'm willing to spend around £4,500 and have found plenty of low mileage 2003 1.5 S versions with less than 40k miles. I know it's not exciting but reading through various reviews it's solidly reliable and has a generous boot - it will need to take a pram and a decent amount of shopping.
  • Omega Tyres 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I've read all the threads but I can't see that anyone has found a satifactory tyre that is quite & does'nt tram, apart from the NCT 5's. Anyone got any comments?
  • Shell Optimax 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The Lady in the shop explained that the recent fire at the oil refinery has had a severe impact on supplies of optimax. Shell?s policy is to supply the limited stocks available only to their larger filling stations. Clearly my local one is not deemed as being larger enough, cannot see it myself; they are always rushed off their feet when I go in.
  • VW Golf Bonnet release cable snapped 20 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hello all I have an S reg 1998 VW golf and this morning i went out to open the bonnet and the cable snapped. I have stipped out the handle inside the car, this is fine but the whole cable pulls through the bulkhead. I guess the cable has snapped on the bonnet catch itself.

  • Leasing/contract hire 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It´s my first time on the forum for a while (no home internet) so pardon me if I ask a silly question! Where are the links to contact hire/leasing offers? My son-in-law may well be looking to acquire a Shogun or Landcruiser for his business & I suggested a trip to hj.co.uk, only to recv. a text saying "can´t find ém"!
  • Best route London - sheff Fri 5pm 9 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Dear people, I need to drive a load of scouts from s/east london to peak district this Friday evening (7oct). I presume traffic will be bad. I need suggestions on routes. I thought m11, a14, a1(m), a617 west (newark on trent) past m1. What do you think?
  • Private Plate Abuse 25 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I guestimate 1 in 3 private registrations I see are altered in some way - spaced incorectly, studs used to alter certain letters or numbers, size variations - for example 7's made to look like 1 or I. Whilst obviously hardly a major crime do the police actually bother to stop any of these offenders? - judging by the numbers abusing the system I doubt it. P.S. I am not knocking private plate buyers in general, I have one myself.
  • fault find brakelight on 2.0L omega 27 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, got an omega 1994 L. Brake light on n/s not working, but bulbs are ok. Tried 2/3 new ones. Is there a particular wire in the multiplug on back of light cluster to check? I think it's the bulb with 2 spots on the bottom. One for tail light, other for braking (correct me if I'm wrong).

  • Selling Vauxhall Corsa - price? 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Going to be selling SWMBO's Vauxhall Corsa in the next few weeks. I've looked about on Autotrader but can't find the exact model to compare. It's 1998 (S) with 54k, FSH, 7 months MOT and 11 month RFL. Red in colour and has faded a little, although I'll be dealing with that before selling along with the black trim. CD radio, sunroof, recent cambelt.
  • Citroen C5 Abroad 22 May 2005 (Forum)
They tell me that you should not use stck on converters or even stone guards due to the exra heat produced. Has anyone got any ideas how I can stay legal abroad? Dave S.
  • Over-cautious "slow" signs 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
signs might have been relevant when there were no speed limits on rural roads, no MOT tests, no high-friction road surfaces and when vehicles were much cruder than they are now. But it?s hard to get into difficulties now in a modern vehicle when you are keeping to current speed limits. (Assuming that you are not non compos mentis, physically handicapped, or under the influence etc etc). -- L\'escargot by name, but not by nature.
  • tyres for shogun 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi, need a new set of tyres for our 02 shogun lwb. The Dunlop TG35's have lasted 45k miles and have been OK, but I have nothing to compare with. Comfort, long life and wet grip are important. Low rolling resistance would be nice aswell. Off road driving is limited to a 1 mile pot holed unadopted road every day.
  • getting paid for test drive 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I've received (in the post) an invitation from Citroen to take a test drive. Apparently, if I accept the invitation, I'll get £15 worth of M&S vouchers. Seems like a good offer to me! I take it other Citroen owners are all getting the same? (And do other manufacturers make this sort of offer?) Bearing in mind that I have no intention of buying a new car any time soon, which Citroen should I take for a spin?
  • Megane Coupe Cabrio 26 Jan 2005 (Forum)
    I see the same car fairly regularly and am still very taken with its very elegant bodywork - certainly its rear view is considerably more handsome than the hatchback...:-) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
