Astra 1.7 DTI Misfire 9 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Its only apparent on holding the car at that speed only and does not appear during acceleration up to, through or beyond that rev range. It almost feels like the car is running out of fuel for a better phrase, but as soon as you accelerate or drop below 2600rpm its gone. I've checked for airleaks and reseated sensors that I can see and now I've reached the limit of my ability (!!). -
Micra occasionally stalling ????? 3 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Just recently one headlight was out and the fault was tracked to a corroded fuse. The same fuse box houses the fuse for the fuel injector and suspecting similar I cleaned, WD40ed and replaced it - no difference either ! Can anyone point me in the right direction. I've searched the site and am worried about seemingly expensive airflow meters. -
What to do next...if anything 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Rather than mess about any more I decided to live with it. After all, it seems to run perfectly OK.....UNTIL I checked fuel consumption over the last 446 miles: 32.5mpg. Admittedly I have no idea of what it was doing before but that seems pathetic. Does anyone have any idea of what I should do next? bax -
Renault Clio 1.6 "HELP" 5 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Drove it home today (longest run its had in months as the guy towed it to get the engine job done, and the MOT test centre was only 4miles down the road.) and the fuel light was on as i set off.... fuelled it up, And set off home. Drove 30miles - Not going over 60mph for the work on the engine - Parked it up and thought "great!" Went out about 2hrs later and now it sounds like a diesel! -

judder TDI 110 30 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The problem is not always there. Volkswagon say its the flywheel, but not that sure becuase they also said it was a solenoid and fuel control valve and it wasn't. Also when idling bad, if I push the butterfly valve on the EGR (in line with the intercooler) it idles fine, when I take the pressure of the problem comes back. Can anyone help - the flywheel has been quoted at £970 so don't want to change unless sure its the problem. -
renault clio1995 - no spark 9 Apr 2004 (Forum)
My first thoughts are to replace the coil and run an injector cleaner incase its a blockage forming in the fuel lines. Has anyone got any more suggestions I can try before I have to pay out? Any tips would be appreciated Mark -
Home Brew Petrol Additive 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I'm thinking of mixing 20 parts of paraffin to one part of thin oil with the idea that this mixture would condition the fuel system. I've heard of using ATF for this, and I've got some left over from an old auto car, but when it runs out I thought I might use pump diesel instead as this would make it even cheaper. Since mine is a 'cooking engine' based on 1980s technology, I might use a much larger quantity - say one pint of the mix to a tankful (15 gal). -
Question to Passat owners about... 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
...fuel comsumption. I have a Passat 1.8T and find my mpg, according to the computer, has dropped from 29mpg in September to 23mpg now. The load is the same, my driving style is the same, the routes I take are the same. -
Golf VR6 cold start problem HELP!! 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I can replicate this problem every time! I have had VW and other specialists run diag but cannot find a problem. I have replaced fuel filter HT leads and spark plugs. I am not quiet sure what else to check as I do not want to pay VW £70 an hour to test all the electrics! Can anyone give me some pointers?? -
'95 Cavalier - Central Locking failure 4 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Took it back to the garage as the petrol filler cap is staying locked, when the bloke at the garage was trying it I could feel the locking pulse through the boot lid opening button, and I could hear it "having a go" at the fuel filler cap but again no unlocking, i noticed that when he tried to open the passenger door from inside it had actually deadlocked itself. I also noticed that the lock had been greased but not by myself, had the usual "was it working when you brought it in" etc etc, anyone any ideas? -
I dont pay vat on new cars! 1 May 2003 (Forum)
If iI sell it after a year at the parkers trade price of £80,395, that will leave almost 9 grand, which should be more than enough for fitting and then decommissioning hand controls, insurance, fuel, travel sweets and probably the odd speeding fine! As the Porsche isn't the most practical car for a wheelchair user (where do you put the wheelchair?) I could really do with some suggestions, what other cars have great residuals? -
M-way speed limit - What to do? 1 Apr 2003 (Forum)
**Firstly because I was a little early out of bed this morning. Secondly because I've noticed recently that I can dramatically improve the Mondeo's fuel consumption by driving more slowly on motorways. Hope this is food for thought and discussion and not a promt for rants of the Speed Kills - oh no it doesn't variety. Andy -
Diesel 309 Smoke Problem 20 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I thought it may be injectors, valve stem seals, loss of compression, or air or water getting into the fuel lines? Can anyone help me? Troubled Tom -
diesel pump timing/turbo questions 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The turbo engine gives 11 psi boost maximum. I haven't noticed either car emit black, blue or white smoke. The air filter is OK and the new fuel filter i fitted to the 1.7 has made no difference. Does it sound like an injector/pump timing fault or something else. -
FAILED EMISSIONS 11 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I have taken it to a Bosch specialist who plugged it into the computer for a couple of hours and said it might be an internal fuel leak he also said that the ECU would let him go so far in to its programme and then kick him out. Anyone out there with any suggestions I would be very grateful -
Smoke and stuttering on Diesel Fiesta 11 Sep 2002 (Forum)
As a bit of background I took it back to the garage who did an emissions test and cleared a blockage on the air filter outlet (was 4.9+ before, now less than 2.5), but no fixed. They now reckon on using Diesel Fuel ADditive to clean the injectors and to come back in 6 weeks if not better. This sounds like a fob off to me. All help gratefully received. -
Toyota Carina Oxygen Sensor Problem? 30 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Dear Forum, I have reason to believe the oxygen sensor is faulty on my 1991 pre-cat Toyota Carina 2.0i auto. (There has been a long history of running and starting problems in cold damp weather caused by a fuel mixture that gets weaker on its own a few weeks after adjustment). I have 3 questions. 1) How easy is it to test an oxygen sensor to be sure that it actually is faulty? 2) If the oxygen sensor is indeed faulty, what sort of money am I looking at for a replacement, including both the part and the labour? -
Short run, save the lecture please 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Also is there a correct procedure to start a car in this condition to minimise the damage caused by the unburnt fuel in the Cat? -
Blinking Landrover. 7 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Handbook puts this down to inertia switch being activated and which also affects central locking as it does. Haynes mentions intended to cut off supply to fuel pump. Could understand this occurring from an severe impact. New Interia switch for Indicator CPU I understand costs in excess of £100. Help1. Cannot find the switch behind the washer bottle as stated by Haynes, neither can I spot it to the left of the steering wheel amongst spagetti junction wiring.
