peugeot 206s 1.4 tiptronic auto fault 22 May 2007 (Forum)
hi there, can anyone help me please i just bought a 2004 peugeot 1.4 206 s semi automatic. I bought it from a local garage with 5k on the clock so I rang the previous owner (who was a nun) and she confirmed the mileage to me and also that the car had no faults. I had had the car about 10 days when the following fault occured:- the car lurched forward, the gearbox clunked and the Sport & Snow indicator lights came on together along with an audible bleep, the car then lost acceleration, it didn't stop or feel like it was going to stop, it was just really sluggish and if I had to stop at lights or a junction it was very very slow pulling away again.

                Should I buy a SAAB? 1 May 2007 (Forum)
He is selling it to me for £9200 which includes £100 to take Polo away. However, my husband has an S reg Passat petrol esate also inherited from parents so we don't really need another estate. He doesn't want to part with it even though he is a student and it is expensive to run. My dad LOVED the Saab and said I should buy it but has now changed his mind because he thinks we shouldnt have 2 estate cars.

Primera: Clutch breaks within 200 yards 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
They say they fitted the clutch, drove the car a couple of hundred yards down the road, all OK until there's a loud "ping" and the clutch is U/S. They're not going to know what the problem is until Tuesday when they can get hold of another clutch and see what the problem is with the car. However they're speculating that it's the cheap pattern part that's to blame, either one of the springs in the flywheel or one of the fingers on the pressure plate has sheared or otherwise popped out, preventing the clutch from functioning.

306 wiper fault, help. 14 May 2006 (Forum)
I have since remove the dash and this loom/relay is not there. According to my wiring diagrams, the Haynes manual, other R REG 306'S, and Peugeot Techs this car should definately have a timmer relay. Its the 30 facia fuse board and its a 98 model with AC. No rain sensors. Does anyone know if this vehicle should have a timmer relay?

How to resolve an unsatisfactory repair 9 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi, hoping for some advice. I've got a 98 S-reg Seat Ibiza 1.4 (60k miles) and a couple of weeks ago it started to make a terrible grinding noise. took it to my normal garage who diagnosed collapsed gearbox bearings. At that time the car was still drivable, no problems with gear selection, just the noise.

New Company Car Time! Thoughts? 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
;-) ) I've been given a fairly free reign of what I can have, so long as I stick with these rules: * Max spend £18k (can prob negotiate a few quid here and there, but not 000's) * Must have 4 doors * No more than 2.0 petrol or 2.2 diesel And thats about it! There were raised eyebrows at Alfa, so I guess thats a non starter - I ought to be keeping these guys happy till we've established a relationship!

                First Car... Polo V Ibiza V Lupo V 206 5 May 2005 (Forum)
Again would be the face-lift model which is nice to look at, with a sporty image. Similar high quality interior to the Polo. The only problem is that they all seem to be 1.4's so the insurance would be more expensive than the Polo (but not as expensive as a 1.4 Polo hmmm) http://snipurl.com/en3g VW Lupo Year 2000 / 2001 VW badge, nice build quality, almost identical dash to the Polo which is nice.

Engine failure TWICE - Peugeot 306DT 23 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I am looking for further advice and comment. I have read Doddy?s topic (16/6/02) and mine is practically the same, only double. I gave up pursuit the first time around, but this time I really do want to pursue further. I own a 1997 (?R? reg.) 306 DT and have owned it for less than 2 years.

Tyres buying/selling and pressures 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Then I took it to my local SEAT dealer for another electronic problem they found that my tyres were overinflated at 38 psi when it should be about 33. They adjusted the tyre pressures. My question is: anyone any experience of Avon ZZ3's or can recommend a tyre that's good in the wet but doesnt increase the road noise. I used to have some Good Year NCT2/Ventura's on my old alfa -it handled like a dream, GREAT in the WET! 2. I paid about £100 a tyre for these AVON ZZ3 at National Tyres (overpriced!)

New Driving Licence Fiasco! 18 Jun 2004 (Forum)
£40 fixed penalty with 3 penalty points. 5 years of confessing my guilt to insurance companies with 5 years of inflated premiums.(Probably £££s) £19 for a replacement licence. £4 for a Post Office to 'look' at my documents. Cost of a passport photo. Above all, though, UNBELIEVABLE HASSLE to get a clean driving licence again! Wish me luck.....

a nation of shopkeepers ... NOT! 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Thirdly, you cannot get a simple confirmation on anything, today they tell you that they have a set of AP`s in stock, ready for shipment, tomorrow I e-mail/phone them to confirm that I am effecting payment and inevitably I get the "We will order the brakes as soon as we received payment" WTF [don't ask - Ian], you told me that you had them in stock yesterday!!

Naughty VW dealer 1 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Another unfortunate story of main dealer rip-off attempts.... My colleague at work has a S reg 1.0 CL Polo with full VW service history, he has always used the local VW dealer here in the west (obviously cannot name it). He rang up on last Monday to book the car in for a service, they said they can do it Tuesday (i.e. the day after - not a good sign of a busy dealer!).

Insurance sending me ga ga 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The years premium would be around £600 but no-one will be specific about how much refund we could get on cancellation after 2 months usage. I suspect it will be prohibitive with admin costs etc. The premium is high (both in our 50's with clean records....honest m'lud)because all no claims are used on other vehicles. It seems insurance companies and brokers are fine if they are issuing standard policies to standard cars but ask them to think slightly "out of the box" and they go all wibbly.

General Q's about car servicing 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My own experience - bought Hondas new from dealership (2Mills, Ledsham, Cheshire) and got very good service so always went back there. When we moved, we found a different story. Chepstow - dealer closed down, Newport (S Wales) new dealer opened up - thought they *were* VERY expensive, only went once, next time service required - they'd closed down. Moved again - not far from Tunbridge Wells (don't laugh pl) Honda dealership in the yellow pages, had become Saab.

Stitched up by Audi main dealer? 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I appreciate I'm at fault, as its in the book, but I'm very naive with cars, and assumed being in a main dealer, the car coming with the 3 year warranty, and of course paying the going rate for a UK car etc etc The warranty on imports is 1 year, so I rang and asked when the warranty ran out and they mentionmed its not unusual for them to sell imported S3's, and that they 'make up the balance' so that the car comes with the full 3 year uk warranty. They've sent a copy of the warranty paperwork, and its come through with the price of £19995 as the purchase price.

1966 and all that 4 Jun 2002 (Forum)
My mechanically-minded friends are split between the aviation breed (pull things down at specified intervals regardless) who prophesy the engine's innards (valve springs, head gasket, t/chain) are tiring and should be overhauled before something goes wrong, and the "I used to have one of them" crowd who say leave well alone, "my old man did 350 thou in one of them and never put a wrench on it etc". Personally I think the original Ford V-8's are fabulous motors and over-engineered in the best of older US auto traditions. Since even a flatout expressway storm seldom pushes it above 3000 rpm it never feels like it's working hard. In fact my current F150 truck's V-8 is similar -- today its engine was turning over at only about 1500 rpm during a 100 kph run, so smooth you couldn't feel or hear it.

Old Habits die hard 1 Apr 2002 (Forum)
a subject that is still aired frequently in the Backroom. The consensus of opinion was that following the manufacturer?s service schedule was sufficient. Modern engines are inherently reliable and rarely gave trouble even with huge mileages. The question posed was do we change oil more frequently etc because of our experiences from an earlier motoring era.

Nippon pong remover 12 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Maybe with the increasing usage and awareness of aircons in the West something like this product will show up in Halfords one day. In the meantime I have the manufacturer?s blurb and would be happy to fax this to anyone who wanted to obtain a supply or contact the factory to enquire about distributorship and score maybe a UK first! My email is growler@philippines.com.ph The same store incidentally carries a Japanese paint proofing product specifically to repel bird poop and acid rain.

Gear Oil Questions and Answers 15 Mar 2020 (Forum)
The SAE classification system is a way of defining how thin or how thick an oil is. This is known as an oil?s viscosity. The classifications are listed here in order of increasing thickness: SAE 75W, SAE 80W, SAE 85W, SAE 90, SAE 140, SAE 250. What does EP mean? EP means extreme pressure and refers to the additive used in gear oils.
