• Brand new Nissan Note Xe - Idler bolt sheared off 4 Mar 2017 (Forum)
  Pulled over and then went to off ramp where car juddered before she stopped. Nissan informs us that fan belt had come off pulley it runs on because one of the bolts that holds an idler pulley in place sheared off, resulting in fan belt coming off pulley. Sounds pretty bad for a brand new car and also makes you wonder if it's a systematic production issue.

  I have rimmed 2 sets now on potholes here in Surrey.   I still have the string wheels.  I need new front tyres anyway. Can I run steel on same axle (front or back?).  Apart from looking a bit odd it should be ok right?   Would you put steel's on front or back?
• Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer - Thermostat Faulty? 23 Feb 2017 (Forum)
  I have the 1.8 petrol Insignia and have had the "Service Vehicle Soon" warning and the cooling fans constantly running. A quick Google suggested the thermostat may be the culprit. My local garage suggested a fan control ECU needed replacing but I was not sure if their diagnostic kit could tell the differnce between the thermostat or ECU fault.

  Good afternoon I'm after some advise on garage repairs, my car wouldn't start November 16, took it to Vw/ Audi specialist, he advised car had dpf filter blocked up also rocker cover needed to be removed and cleaned due to running car on incorrect oil,  I had a bill for replacement dpf from motor factors and fitting for £1045, car has been back in garage since end of January 17 due to breakdown, garage said oil filter was clogged solid and caused the engine to blow,  I'm not a mechanic, but Surley this should have been replaced when the original repair was done?

  Bike is a fuel injection model so some comparable tech to cars. Basically even in this cold snap, it starts and runs fine but the last third of the the throttle travel causes the engine to bog down, losing speed even on downhill sections. I wondered if the tank was vacuuming but opening the cap briefly didn't make any difference.
• Honda Civic - Boot Locked 19 Dec 2016 (Forum)
  Found a quick fix: start engine and open/close drivers door lock a couple of times. (do hear locking clicks when i start engine though). Can now open boot with engine running, but not if engine and keys are not in ignition. Heard it could be Acutator !!! also heard that if you open boot... disconnect battery then re-connect this resets and can open boot!!! Any advice on a cheap way to fix would be good thanks.

  I get no dash light and no poor running or loss of power or economy. It has been to the dealer 3 times and the last visit they said that it was fine, that there is no faults recorded and it will pass a mot test and is therefore within acceptable limits and no fault is recognised by Hyundai.

  http://www.chevrolet.com/impala-full-size-cars.html I know that the petrol prises would make it uneconomical to run but boy was it a hoot to drive. The seats were very comfortable and the ride was limo smooth.It was also very quiet when cruising but if you put your foot down it left everything standing. I want one!

  This car will get a lump hammer through it very soon Start car from cold, no problem 30 minute run, nice and hot, switch off, restart after 1 min, no problem Try and restart after 10 mins, no chance, cars turns over, battery good, but won't start Try and restart after car has cooled down (1 hour) no problem Changed high pressure valve, new copper seal in injector 4 (leaking) cannot hear fuel pump make a noise when ignition turned on   Would be grateful for any advice for my next step Cheers Jon

  I'm considering changing my 11 plate Micra in the next few months as it's low on driving enjoyment and would like something a bit newer and more fun to drive with similar running costs. The local Nissan dealer also sells Suzukis and Hyundais and the newer shape Swift looks quite tempting and retails for about the same as a Micra. I did have one as a courtesy car 3 years ago and found it quite good to drive if a bit stuffy without aircon( it was an SZ2).

  Just received my annual renewal. Guess what? For the second year running the renewal is less than the previous year. Checked around and my existing company came out cheapest for a new quote, but more expensive than renewal for exactly the same information given. So the price reduction must be for loyalty.
• Citroen c4 - Citroen c4 hdi starts for 4 seconds idles and cuts 10 Aug 2016 (Forum)
  Had a can belt change done by a friend of mine (trusted and a good guy) but after what seems the normal bleeding issue it will start perfectly but will idle for 4 seconds then stop won't Rev the crank sensor has been replaced we have Han it with out the dpf and checked the egr valve all ok. We are at a loss it sounds perfect but just won't stay running. P1351 code checked relay and fuse for heater plugs all ok and fuel delivery pressure is also ok. Need some help please

  AA put their computer on came up with code po106 intake manifold pressure outside specified limits I am getting white smoke , after about 10 minutes of running the engine .wont rev over 1500 rpm , even when throttle pedal , is floored to the end. Have been told maybe map sensor or maf sensor , which has been replace a few months ago , put a second maf sensor . made no difference  any advice help        
• Citroen Xsara 1.4 2003 - 2003 Xsara Battery Warning and Now Won't Start 6 Jun 2016 (Forum)
  Battery flattened trying. Tried charging battery and it took charge but will still not start and no sound of fuel pump running. Also will not jump start. All fuses fine and garage are confused. Is there anything electrical that would stop engine starting because of an underlying fault? Hoping to avoid a trip to main dealership which may not be financially viable although car is otherwise a great runner.

  Does anyone know the delphi test run and expected amount of fuel collected. I always thought it was 10% of each other, but then i thought if they were all bad they could be within 2% of each other and still be bad.  Looking at other car manufacture forums they say idle for a minute, rev to 3000 rpm for 30 seconds, idle for 30 seconds repeat 3 times and should have no more than 25 mls etc.

  On my gf's car this code appears after about 15 miles. The car starts and runs fine. Air filter is new. The plugs are the correct shade of brown, I've checked the MAF sensor which is perfectly clean and fitted new lamda sensors (2). I drove it about 20 miles and engine light did not come on.

  It is planned as a second car for the other half to use so the transmission would need to cope with mixed conditions around town as well as some long motorways runs of 200 miles plus. Can spend anything from £2000 all the way to about £5500. Mk6 examples from 2005 seem to be at the bottom end of the budget whilst MK7 cars from around 2010 or maybe even 2011 are at the higher end.

  Sorry for asking for help on my first post, but i'm in a bit of a fix. Van was running fine, pulled up turn it off and when i went to restart it - nothing. The dash lights come on, the glow plug light comes on and after that goes out, when the key is turned absolutely nothing.

  Hiya guys n gals I have a 2011 1.6 cdti cmax  I bought around a month ago shes been running fine however she has recently developed quite a concerning noise which I can only relate to as a petrol go kart. When revved in neutral shes sweet as a nut but when giving it some throttle when driving she makes noise theres no noticable loss of power n drives fine just this noise any ideas or help would be appreciated?

  Hi, The vehicle is taking 8 or 9 seconds to start from cold.  Starting from warm is fine.  Car runs OK otherwise. I replaced the battery but no improvement.  Took it to a garage and asked them to replace the glow plugs which they did but still no better. Perhaps the garage didn't do a good job.
