Advice on next purchase 16 Dec 2002 (Forum)
After 2 years of trouble free motoring in my Primera SRi I need a larger load carrier as a result of 2 small children. I want a large, well made, reliable, cheap to run estate/MPV. It also has to be as good to drive as the Primera and as quick. Max budget 5K plus trade-in. -
Disabled buggies and cyclists 20 Nov 2002 (Forum)
There has been correspondence in the national press recently regarding electric disabled buggies and cyclists being requred to have at least third party insurance. Having encountered one or two locally who insist on driving along the road this may be a good idea. It might also be a good idea for cyclists but enforcement would probably be a nightmare. -

The silence is deafening! 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Fully laden, crusing at 70-75mph. I used 4.55 litres to a gallon - is that right? Why doesn't everyone drive a diesel? Regards Pat -
Hatching 17 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know what the increasingly common red paint with cross hatching that is appearing on many roads means? I'd always assumed it was illegal to drive through these areas, but just reading on the http://www.speedlimit.org.uk site has made me reconsider. And did anyone prove conclusively if the flashing motorway matrix speed limit signs were compulsory? -
Mondeo Handbrake 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Answered a knock at the door an hour ago. My neighbour took me out to the drive to see my Mondeo pushing gently into the side of the wife's Renault. Handbrake was fully on. Only had the car a week. It's a Fordsure 2001Y 1.8. Garage claimed fully serviced before I got it. Anyone had a similar problem? -
Load lugger 14 Mar 2002 (Forum)
We are soon to commence on a self-build house project, hence need a vehicle to carry around small loads of materials/rubbish etc. It also needs to be fairly respectable, so I can drive to work in it. Does anyone have any suggestions, budget about 2K, was considering a Land Rover but not sure. Thanks Andrew www.hispecgolfs.co.uk -
An apology 4 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I wish to apologise to anyone I may have offended with regards to my 'Vauxhall Adverts' post. I realise there are plenty of you out there who can afford and take pleasure in driving a brand new car. I suppose if I was rich enough to buy new I would be tempted, but I'm poor! (but not bitter and twisted about it you understand...) ;-) -
Broken wheel bolt 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
With the disc removed there is about 1cm of bolt protruding from the hub. Does anyone have any advice how i might get this bolt out? And is it safe to drive gently with only three bolts? Ben -
7 seats 29 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I need a car which is not too big, good to drive, reasonably nippy, can seat and occassional extra child or two and I don't want an MPV. Are there any current model estates which would fulfil this brief, or has this been abandoned with a view to safety. -
Volvo V40 lights 25 Nov 2001 (Forum)
A friend has a V40 Volvo, and driving on dipped lights is akin to using the force, to be honest the main beam isn't that great either. Can any one out there recommend replacment bulbs? I don't really want to take pot luck in Halfords, and risk £40 down the pan if they make no difference. -
Performance bargain of the year? 1 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Spotted in today's Anglia Ad Trader - Vauxhall Senator 3.0 24V manual on a G plate, long tax / test, vgc and service history, needs a new clutch (how difficult can that be on a rear drive car?), £450. It's in Kings Lynn, tel 01553 670169. But I bet its gone by now. -

Motorcyclist's Headlights 16 Jun 2001 (Forum)
While I totally appreciate the need for motorcyclists to be seen, as many of them are incollision with card drivers who have not seen them, why is it that so many of them have to drive around with car strength headlights used on main beam. I am happy to see you but I am not happy to be dazzled head on and from behind! -
Backwards window wipers 2 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Ok, as some cars now come with backwards sweeping window wipers, eg some french cars, are these actually better? If they are better, in countries where they drive on the right, do their wipers go the 'wrong' way ie. the way ours do? Or do we only have this device? Or is it just cheaper in production? surely not? Cheers, Kev -
Three more test drives - Lexus, Peugeot and Skoda 27 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Some more impressions in case they're of interest: all unaccompanied test drives of about an hour each (an unexpected bonus from the current restrictions). Lexus UX Good to drive, with plenty of performance - but so is a Toyota Corolla with the same 2.0 petrol engine and 'self-charging' hybrid. -
Hyundai Santa Fe - 2012 Santa Fe 2.2 Diesel - auto gearbox change not 19 Nov 2018 (Forum)
At this point i have gone past the return date of the new gearbox as it was delivered whilst i was away at a conference, I've invested a ton of wasted time and money for what seems like a hair sized difference in the TC. I welcome any thoughts as this is driving me mental, i'm lacking transport, and has been a eyesore on the drive to my neighbours for the last 2 weeks . Help! Simon -
Seat Altea - Seat Altea Breaks Down Randomly 17 Jul 2017 (Forum)
The dealer authorised me to take it to an auto gearbox specialist for a 1h diagnostics. However, the specialist couldn't find any error codes, even after driving it around for a while. Again I was told to drive the car around and bring it back when the error occurred again (being the third time now!). The specialist told me that the diagnostic checks would unlikely have shown that gears 1 and 3 weren't engaging if it was an electronic problem. -
Roads in Rhodes 20 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Just back from a fabulous holiday in Rhodes which involved quite a bit of driving. My one regret was leaving car hire last on the list of things to book, and since the ubiquitous wealthy Russians had snapped up all the big cars, I was faced with three weeks of mostly short drives at the wheel of a lethargic Citroën C1 "Eco" or half a grand to upgrade to a Corsa. -
Semi-automatics. Real fuel consumption 9 Apr 2011 (Forum)
But what about semi automatics? Do we get an extra hit on fuel consumption if we drive in full automatic mode? If so, someone intending to drive their car as a full automatic would be wrong to compare the official figures from a conventional automatic with those from a semi-automatic, as the semi-automatic would have an unfair advantage if it had been tested when driven manually.
