Seat Ibiza - Webuyanycar.com 12 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I don’t know if any posters have ever used this outfit, but having dabbled with them in the past for indicative valuations, we used them for real at the weekend and I thought others might be interested in our experience. For background, when my wife bought her new car 18 months ago we kept her old car for our sons to use. They don’t often visit, but when they do it’s useful to be able to offer them a car to run around in. They all live abroad, so when they visit it’s never just for a day and our Ibiza saves them having to hire a car. -
Mercedes-Benz SportCoupé Kompressor - Too Shiny For Me 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
My protests that I knew nothing about new cars were brushed aside, since the car was "very old". Turned out to be a 15 year old dealer-maintained Mercedes-Benz C 230 (I think) SportCoupé Kompressor, and a bit of a looker, as was its owner. -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2002 2.0 HDI (110bhp) SX - Engine noise 27 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone help with the problem on my C as the local dealers are useless, rude and arrogant, but then I'm only a woman so what the hell should I know about cars anyway??! We have had the car for nearly 2 years and bought it second hand from the dealer in {deleted, as you've made an accusasion about them} . Great car apart from the howling noise from the rear brakes which took 5 trips to our local dealer in {deleted - same reason} and 1 stand up argument to fix. -
New Zealand - Driving Experience 10 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Saw lots of Jap cars of model types I have never heard of before. Lots of old cars here. 12 Hired a car from Ace rentals for £350 for 3 weeks. It was a white 1.5 Corolla auto. It was a heap of fun. Sounded like a bag of nails at start up, hated hills, I managed to open the boot every time I got out the car by catching my right foot on floor mounted boot opening lever. -
Mazda 3 - Brand new ball joint failure caused damage 18 Apr 2017 (Forum)
They decided to put a new wishbone and ball joint on and send the old wishbone and failed ball joint back to the manufacturer. I have driven the car this weekend just around the area and the car feels wrong. The front nearside wheel has loads of play and the car is making clunking noises. -
Insurance companies Fighting your corner 12 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi all Last month my car was written off. As i waited behind a parked car (two thirds of the front of my car was behind it)for the oncoming car to pass i saw to my horror that the car swerved from its original course(opposite side of the road) straight into my car at about 25-30mph without breaking.I got out of my car to check that the woman who was driving and her kids in the back were all OK.Thankfully they were. -
Two questions... 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
2.d) Leave the windows open a couple of millimetres to allow airflow. What about airflow to the boot, given that the car is a 2 door saloon and the rear seets do not fold down? 2.e) Should I cover the car with an old sheet, or might this trap any moisture in the garage against the car? Thank you very much in advance. -
BMW X3 - Mid size SUV help 10 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I hardly drive it any more since I can cycle to work and she drives to and from work and then back at lunch to play with our dog. I'm soon to sell my mum and dad's old house since they are sadly no longer with us and I figured that with the proceeds it's time I cut my losses with the Civic and leave her to it, hopefully teaching her some car responsibility in the process if she has to pay for it! -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Praise for Motor Codes Conciliation Service 18 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Their prognosis proved to be correct and by the time the car was almost three years old I had to ask them to have another look. The outcome was the same, as it was at the four year service when I raised it yet again. Eventually, I had to take the car back last autumn. -
2002 VW Passat TDI Power Loss 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It was a standard service except for the replacement of brake pads. On collecting the car it was immediately apparent there was no surge of power at 2,000 revs and it drove like an old donkey. There now seems to be a kick in and a significant increase of power from 3,100+ revs onwards, though I'm not sure if this is due to the turbo or just the increase in revs. -
Motoring in Tenerife 3 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Cars were available in groups A-F. By group D the largest available was an old shape Seat Leon or Cordoba, far too small. For some reason Group E was made up of superminis with auto boxes - all too small. -
What happened here then ?? 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
He didn't seem to be unwilling or nervous about selling the vehicle beforehand, but definitely did not want to sell it by the time we were in the pub car park. He had already suggested I could take the car without the window when we were negotiating. -

The perfect cheap used car 29 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Picked up my new/old car, a replacement for a contract lease Honda CRV I was tired of paying for. I needed space and wanted comfort and reliability so went for a petrol 60 plate Toyota Avensis 1.8 Estate with 70,000 miles and full history in a local private sale for £4150, around £1500 less than dealers are asking for similar. -
Royal cars 21 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I couldn't help feeling a small burst of pride that it will be a Jaguar carrying out this key role for the next few days, together with the still magnificent 10 year old royal Bentley, as the world watches the unrivalled combination of pageantry and dignity which marks a British state funeral. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_state_car A fascinating rundown of the major "state cars" used on happier occasions around the world reveals some interesting changes, notably BMWs and Audis now taking over from Holdens and Fords in Australia and New Zealand after their local car production came to an end. -
An impossible quest? 2 Jun 2022 (Forum)
My 80 year old mother in law has expressed her intention to buy a new car. She currently drives a 2015 '64' plate Ford Ka which has about 40k on the clock. She sees impending bills on the horizon - last MoT required two new tyres and a ball joint - so wants to buy a brand new car to 'avoid any big bills'... -
Ford Kuga 1.6 Ecoboost 180:bhp Titanium X - Broken Spark Plug Destroys Engine 1 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Not even fault codes indicated this. Insurance has refused to pay for a new engine. Apparently even with a brand new car after it is only a year old, a spark plug that damages the engine is not even covered by the manufacturers warranty. First I have ever heard that it is possible for a £2.50 component like a spark plug, to cause over £8,000 worth of damage. -
MG RV8 - Researching the mileage of an imported classic car 24 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I've already contacted DVLA but data protection forbids them sharing any previous owner details with me. They say that as the car was three years old at re-import then it would have needed an MOT (which may well have shown a zero odometer reading) so there should have been two or three MOT's done before the 2003 certificate. I purchased a vehicle check package from CheckCarDetails.co.uk but the MOT history they provided only starts in 2006. -
Audi A6 Avant 2002 - Cold Start/Turbo Cut out 14 Jan 2021 (Forum)
This is my first post so apologies if I either post it in the wrong place or inadvertently destroy any forum etiquette. My forum name is actually my car name as it is old and German (ask the kids). The main block of my car has done 240K miles, whilst other parts have done much less and my "new" cylinder head has only done 110K. I had to replace it after the original camshaft wore out at 230K, threw the valve timing out, destroyed a valve and the valve bed at the same time. -
Smart Forfour, Renault Twingo - Where does cabin air enter in Twingo/Forfour? 11 Oct 2020 (Forum)
In a nutshell, this means that I respond physically to the tiniest amounts of airborne toxins - amounts other people would never even slightly react to. So I get very unwell in a great many cars as the tiniest whiff of anything coming from an engine will affect me badly. I know that (in a front engine car, at least) the air intake for the cabin is right next to the engine, and my perception is that once an engine is a bit old, there will always be some airborne 'nasties 'from the engine that will get inside.
