Fun Car to Drive - confused! 23 Feb 2016 (Forum)
My current car is a 14 year old Nissan Primera (P12) hatchback. It has served me well. However, I have got the dreaded engine warning light. Garage struggling to fix it. The Primera is a very comfortable car and a joy to drive, even though it is 14 years old. -
Would you recommend the KIA Rio as a small, reliable, petrol car? 13 Apr 2013 (Ask HJ)

Car Vs Lorry - Minor accident Royal Mail 13 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Not sure yet if we even have the correct reg no. Obviously my Mrs livid but I do not believe it is even worth pursuing. The car is 19 years old and it is cosmetic damage which we will not be claiming for. However I do not want RM citing our reg no and making a claim against us without our insurer involved. Any input would be most welcome. -
Hyundai i40 - Gear Linkage Issue 24 Jun 2022 (Forum)
The gear linkage broke on my car, a local garage said they could repair it. Anyway after a few days he said, it was foo big a job and after spending 2 hours trying to remove the old one he gave up. Does it sound normal to be forced to pay for a failed attempt to repair my car, it was basically beyond the local back street garage. -
The holy grail or just fantasy for under £5000 ? 21 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Even suggestions could get me thinking p.s. I do love classic cars but I don't think many of them are reliable enough and some really do look old haha -
Any - Electronic handbrakes 10 Aug 2018 (Forum)
With electronic handbrakes, you apply the handbrake when parked and release it when setting off(or auto release). My question is what happens in emergency brake failure. The old fasioned way was to dip the clutch and slowly and progressively apply the manual handbrake until the car comes to a stop. On an electronic handbrake I am assuming it's either on or off? So in the same emergency surely putting the handbrake on would cause the car to stop very suddenly, possibly even causing it to skid or flip? -
Used car advice 10 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I've just sold an old Porsche Boxster S (25MPG) and am about to part company with my Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.6D (60MPG). I'd like to replace them with one car that finds a healthy compromise between the 2. I'm looking for something with great economy as I cover around 24k per year, some style and a strong engine as I enjoy driving enthusiastically. -
Audi S3 - Imports 11 May 2016 (Forum)
Have just purchased an ex demo car from a main dealer, about 6 months old. When entering in the reg number to pay for the Dartford crossing, it came up with the suffix "S-A" after the model type. This made me suspicious that it may be an import and I now notice that the car came via Paragon Automotive who seem to specialise in perparing imports for the UK market. -
VW Polo 1.2 Moda - VW Don't care 4 Feb 2016 (Forum)
VW is not interested as car is out of warranty even though they have looked after the car since i purchased it new. Unbelievably this damaged happened when the car was stationary/at start up. How can I take this forward as VW are blocking and saying I need to speak with the retailer. -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi - Fault Code p0221 29 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi I have a Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi. 3 times over the last 6 months the car has hesitated and during gear change the revs do not return to idle. I have changed the switch on the clutch pedal, no better. when the car hiccups it does so for a few days then the Glow Plug light comes on and the car goes to idle with no revs. -

Toyota Auris and Auris HSD - Motorpoint and imports 24 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I am currently toying with the idea of buying a <1 yr old Auris Hybrid from Motorpoint. There seem to be lots of glowing reviews about Motorpoint however I understand that they import most of their cars which then do not come with a standard warranty. Would I be correct in my reasoning that as the Auris is a UK built vehicle, any cars on motorpoint shouldn't be imports and will therefore come with the standard UK spec and warranty? -
Dazzling fog lights cause 300,000 accidents 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hardly the kind of car that an 18 year old drives. The amusing "report" is at What Car. -
Child safety seats after a certain height. 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My 8 year old niece has reached the magical hight of 1.35 meters. However my sister has insisted I carry on using the booster seat when she is my car,, well no me personally, but you know what I mean. But from my point of view it isa pain in the neck, the bucket seats in my MX8 make it hard to fit and then I need to move it from car to car and when not in use storing it. -
Smoking nearly new diesels. 17 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Quite often, as today, I see new or newish cars (less than 4 years old) pulling away at the lights leaving tremendous black clouds behind them. Even see newish cars, that smoke quite a bit even when just pushing forward a little in a queue. To me, obviously victims of tuning boxes or remaps, but I would like to know how many legal standard cars it takes to produce the same amount of potentially health damaging pollution. -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 2007 1.8 Spongy brakes 10 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The brake pedal on my Avensis (1.8 petrol) is quite spongy and requires a firm press for the brakes to respond. The car stops okay in an emergency but it's quite unnerving at times in traffic. The car had just 6k on the clock when I bought it from a Toyota dealer at 18 months old and was used as a demonstrator sitting for long periods on the forecourt. -
Ignorant smoking driver 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Walking through Leeds today waiting to cross a junction. We were waiting for a car to turn right - a 58 reg MB C class Coupe. In turning right the driver threw half a cig out of the window, just missing me and my 2.5 year old daughter. After turning right the car had to wait at a set of lights and the window was still open.
