Handbrake prob on K Polo 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My daughters K plate polo handbrake has progresively been in need of adjustment (its now at the end of its adjustment on the threaded rod at the handbrake end of the cable. This problem I thought was curred when I replaced all three cables(due to cable stretch) last year. Its had new rear brake shoes new adjuster wedges and springs-the adjusters are working.I have also checked that the drums are within their wear tolerance So Iam stumped at present as to why so much adjustment is nesessary so often. She does tend to yank the handbrake up tight a bit more than is necessary so could it be just cable stretch again? -
New Fiesta 1.3 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Also with the Fiesta I liked the non-colour coded, non-electric mirrors. Didn't like the relatively hefty shove required on the brakes, but even that was a source of nostalgia. Think of it as like a new mobile phone, which is designed to allow you to make phone calls, rather than a million other features you can never hope to understand or use. -
Loss of power steering Octavia 1.9 TDi 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Car is a 52 plate 1.9TDi 110bhp Octavia (not the PD engine). 85000 miles. Cambelt replaced @ 80,000 miles service. Was driving to work this morning when, having braked reasonably sharply, I discovered upon moving off again that I had lost power steering and the battery light on the dashboard was illuminated. A quick check under the bonnet didn't reveal anything obvious and as I was only half a mile from work I thought that I'd drive the rest of the way, which I did without steering assistance. -
99 /00 W 306 HDi Rear Calipers 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Anyone know where to buy Peugeot 306 HDI calipers (rear) for a 2000 w reg (107k) at a good price. Got quotes of £62.50 +vat each from GSF. The hand brake has always been poor does not hold the car properly, and the both calipers are binding. Mechanic thought it may be the linkages on the calipers themselves that have seized. Any ideas / help appreciated. -
What are covered under new car warranty? 23 May 2007 (Forum)
Most cars here come with 3 years warranty with exception of Hyundai (5 yr) and Kia Cee'd (5+2 yr) On Hyundai website, they said brake/clutch/lights etc. are covered for 2 years only. Rest of components 5 years. Most other manufactuers include the clause that wear & tear are not included. Could you please highlight your experiences what things are not covered?? -
2001 Mondeo 1.8 LX whining 12 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Noise is worst when keeping a steady speed (ie just enough power to keep up). Less whine when under acceleration and almost no noise when off the gas or braking. Have had wheel bearings checked - seem OK. Garage is going to check the gearbox oil this week. Browsing through other forums have seen differential noise and tyre noise suggested. I appreciate it's difficult to judge a noise without hearing it, but any thoughts welcome. -
Some Citroens can be ultra reliable! 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Nothing too amazing about that as there are quite a few around that have done those sort of mega-mileages.......But.........its only ever been serviced four times! Thats an oil change every 60,000 miles, on a diesel. Brake pads and tyres are all its ever had. Its just passed its MOT with no problems. Superb! -
Corsa battery and Master cylinder 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
is it REALLY that difficult to remove. Anyone got the definitive method of removal?? Similarly the brake master cylinder seems inaccessible too and it looks like the o/s wiper arm has to be removed before access can be gained to do a simple job like checking/ topping up the reservoir. Again is this the case?? -
Jag XJ 1991 - Wheel Tracking/Vibration? 9 Jan 2007 (Forum)
This morning I encountered a problem - 15 miles into my journey to work and then when I touched the brake the car edged to the left, the same side as the kurb I mounted. Then I started getting vibrations through the steering wheel and the car was clearly not happy. I stopped for a few minutes and then the car made it the remaining two miles to the office without incident. -
Focus ST170 - Noise to diagnose... 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Seems to stop when I go faster, and does not immediately happen when I set off in the morning, hence it being hard to replicate. Current suggestions are: Sticking brake calliper & worn driveshaft bearing. Any more suggestions greatly appreciated, I hate taking things to a garage without some idea of what might be wrong. It's still under warranty for a few months thankfully.......... -
Volvo 240 Brakelight keeps fusing 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
This happens even when the car is switched off and the keys are not in the ignition: I put a new 8 amp fuse in, press the brake pedal, and watch the fuse glowing away for a second or two then it blows out! I think I have now eliminated the severed hinge cable as the problem; this is because I have now capped those wires off with a connection block; they are definitely not earthing now! -
How Does One use an Automatic Gearbox? 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Questions is on a motorway or speeds above say 60mph which gear does noe use. At traffic lights do you leave the car in D with the foot on the brake or put it into neutral. Whats 1 and 2 for. What gear would you use for a traffic light drag race (not that he would ever do that) Any other suggestions of how to drive practically using an autobox? -
Auto Express Tyre Test 22 Jul 2006 (Forum)
After watching the video I couldn't help but wonder what effect the tread depth markers have on wet road braking at these sorts of speeds. I'm aware that there's tread between the said markers but they must have some effect. It seems to me that they are like having mini bald patches on your tyres. It would be interesting to conduct the same tests with these removed to prove/disprove their effects. -
Ford KA burning smell!! 15 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Last night she drove it home from work (less than a mile) and the actual wheel hub burnt my fingers when I touched it! It seems to drive fine, and the brakes (recently serviced and passed MOT) show no sign of fade, or squeaks, squeels or other unpleasant noises. Doesn't appear to pull to one side or other when driving. I'm going to take the wheel off - what should I be looking for? -
Buying my company E-class Merc 16 Jun 2006 (Forum)
It's on a 53 plate (November) and will have done 85,000 miles by the time I take ownership in August (80,000 now). I've tended to drive it quite hard and I've gone through a reasonable number of tyres and brake pads, however it has been regularly serviced by my local MB dealer. The fleet company are offering it to me for £16,300. Questions: - Is this a good deal? - Anything I should begin to worry about at this age/mileage? -
Zafira Road Wheel Bolts & Tools Required 26 May 2006 (Forum)
Hopefully an easy one for forum members. I have recently been removing my wheels to clean and remove built up brake dust on my alloys, however, when I use the tools supplied by Vauxhall, I have to stand on the tool to undo/remove the road wheels and having looked at the wheel nuts, I have noticed that I am starting to round off the tops. -
Tyre test reported in Which? magazine 4 Mar 2006 (Forum)
magazine ranks tyre quality thus (top five from each group, with scores): 17" Michelin Pilot Sport ("best on test", equal best on wear) 73% Bridgestone Potenza 71% Continental SportContact3 70% BFGoodrich G-Force Profiler 68% Pirelli Pzero Nero 68% 14" Bridgestone Turanza ER300 ("best on test", best overall on wet braking) 70% Pirelli P6 65% Nokian NRHi 64% Continental EcoContact 3 63% Vredestein Hi-Trac 63% Michelin and Bridgestone prices knock them out of the best-buy stakes, but shop around, of course. No surprises there, then. -
Sisters 51 1.2 Punto - never serviced 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Been trying to get my sister to have her car serviced, its never had anything done to it since she purchased it about 4 years ago. Just checked under the bonnet and found the brake fluid bottle almost totally empty, she has just brought some DOT4 from Halfords, assume its the right stuff. Anyway, I am trying to allow her to let me service it, any issues with oil filter access or the drain plug in Punto's? -
Escort 1994 1.6 16v 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
i have recentley rebuilt my zetec but also with piper cams & flowing and porting and an fse power boost valve i also have had the ecu reflashed to match the mods but its a pain to start, idles irractically, and has a bad misfire after you rev it up misses on way back down to idle speed ive had the timing done abut 3 times its got new plugs gapped at 1mm, new leads, new earths, new mass air meter, new lamda sensor and new engine sensors but it still has the same problem any ideas cos its cost me a small fortune but its currently running at 160 brake with 140 torque so when it runs ok it will be well worth it ps it still does 30 to the gallon -
Sell it or service it? 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Is it worth getting the work done at a non franchise service centre like Nationwide? I have sourced the brake parts at £100! No SAAB specialist independents near where she lives. Is it worth spending the £1500 at a main dealer and keeping the car indefinitely. Is it best to shift it now, as is, on a private sale and sold as seen with 3 month's MOT?
