Nissan Sunny (1991 - 1995) - 94 1.4 auto.Doesn't move when pressing accelerator 13 Sep 2009 (Forum)
When I press the accelerator on my nissan sunny 1.4L (auto 1994) the car does not move from a stationary position even though i can see the rev counter and hear the engine reving up.It will start moving very slowly after 3 or 4 attemps at pressing the throttle and this sometimes cause the car to switch off. once the car has picked up speed, I can drive it and feel the gears changing normally. The problem starts again if I brake or stop at a junction or bring the car to rest. There is no problems with starting the car or any misfiring. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated {No need to include make/model in the subject header - the drop down menus takes care of that for you} -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Falken Tyres For My Mondeo? 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I really must get rid of the rubbish budget Chinese tyres on my Mondeo III Estate, wet grip/braking in particular is hopeless. I'm not convinced I need premium brands at £120 a corner and had been thinking about Vredestein Ultracs which I've liked in the past. However Falken tyres are mentioned by several folks as good on a Mondeo and I'm just looking into them. -
Ban tractors from dual carriageways? [Read Only] 17 Apr 2009 (Forum)
It can be avoided by looking a long way ahead, as you should, but the only indication is usually heavy braking ahead. Is it about time tractors are banned from fast dual carriageways, in order to prevent something like this happening again? I remember saying a few years ago that it was only a matter of time before this happened on the A38... and sure enough, it has. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 95 2.0 Rust / hole underneath 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It is quite big (i can get 4 fingers in there and feel the carpet) The car is due a MOT shortley. Will this be a fail? Can it be welded? The hole is next to 3 lines (fuel line and brake line i assumme) or can we get some of that sticky metal sheet and put that over it? (wil it pass the MOT like this?) With regards to the welding, will it be a expensive job? -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 02 2.0HDI Cold start problem 27 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My car has recently exhibited a cold start problem. Two faults found - a brake fault code (unrelated?) and all 4 glowplugs were dead. The fault code was cleared and the glowplugs replaced. Result - still fires on what sounds like one cylinder from cold with lots of smoke and lumpy running. -
Suzuki Grand Vitara (1998 - 2005) - 01 1,6 Engine stalling when coming to rest 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have asked him to explore different facets based on what he has said to me, (eg clutch position dependent, braking?, gradient, electrical load hrw+ headlights). But I do not necessarily expect an coherent analytical report. Does it suffer from ICV or equiv problems? Are there any known fault areas on this model ? -
Nissan Primera IV p12 (2002 - 2006) - Tyre Choice - 16" 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
All are 92 Load Index, so no difference here. Which is a better tyre to choose? Safety is important - roadholding and braking performance, also ride quality. ATS suggested the H rating, on offer at 25% off until 31/12, but the car did come with V rated tyres. Now I will never drive at 130mph, even if I do ever visit Germany again, so is this a relevant consideration? -
Overtaken driver accelerating 1 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Once alongside she realises that the school car is pacing her, so she has to boot the vehicle considerably more to get by safely. Yes she could have braked and tucked in behind, but anyone idiotic enough to accelerate hard when someone is overtaking could really do anything, so she didn't trust the car not to outbrake her instead. The thing that surprised her most was that the school car only had one person in it, presumably an instructor? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99t 1.9td steering overpulling when cornering 1 Nov 2008 (Forum)

It has 120k on the clock as always thank you in advance for any suggestions very much appreciated -
Parking on a very steep driveway 10 Oct 2008 (Forum)
What are the chances of it slipping out of gear? When I get the handbrake tightened up, should I park the car, set the handbrake, release the brake pedal and then leave it in gear so that the handbrake takes the strain with the engine as a backup should the handbrake fail? Or should I leave it in gear, release the clutch to let the engine take the strain, and then apply the handbrake as a backup? -
Mercedes Benz C-Class Sport Coupe (2001 - 2008) - 03 1.8 Disc protective coating 20 Sep 2008 (Forum)
They used to be coated in grease. Can anyone tell me what this coating is, and why it doesn't, supposedly, have any effect on braking performance? The discs were not MB OE, but according to my neighbour 'fifty quid more than the cheapest, and the man in the shop said it's what MB would use'. -
Jaguar XJ6 XJ40 (1986 - 1994) - 1994 4.0 Sovereign surging 29 Jun 2008 (Forum)
. - if he is driving along the car will suddenly surge and accelerate and he is finding he has to hover his foot over brake and has to leave a good distance between him and car in front - two garages are not certain what problem is and are hesitant to recommend a part because of cost of £140 and if the diagnosis is wrong then he has wasted £140 so I said I would ask the question if anyone has had this problem and if so what was it or can anyone suggest what problem might be. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.9 D Unusual Noise. Front wheels maybe o/side 13 May 2008 (Forum)
Recently I have noticed an unusual noise from the front wheel ( probably offside) It is quiet and does not happen every time Sometimes it "sounds like " a brake pad sticking on the disc. or imagine while you have stopped a walnut is put under the front tyre and the sound heard is a feint pop as you drive off over it. Whenever it happens ( not all the time) it happens when the car is moving away from stationery in first gear. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 2001 1.8 - rear end very twitchy 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
i own a vectra sxi 2001. my car has allways been very twitchy. its only twitchy when braking on either light or hard corners, feels very crabby but no in a straight line. i have changed alloys to 17 215 45s and has not made any noticeable difference. just wondering if any other suggestions could be made by others as it was written of yesterday on mild bend, i took a left hand bend and it had no feeling to the rear of the car, no squealing of tyres, no crabing just a feeling like the rear was skating on ice. the outcome was that it hit an embankment, rolled on to its roof and settled on the passenger side doors. any help from all the people would be of great help -
Nissan Almera (1995 - 2000) - 1998 1.6 Uneven wear on one tyre only 17 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Checks on the suspension seem fine, bushes, arms and struts all look okay. The car even handles okay, although not as sharp as it once did. No pulling under braking or acceleration and it drives straight on motorway runs. It seems the only evidence for a problem is the wear on that one tyre. {pedantic mode on. Changed the word wheel(s) for tyre(s) as it's not actually the wheels that are wearing. pedantic mode off} -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 Endura - Low speed noise - drive shaft? 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
However the problem still persists and is getting worse. The problem is very noticeable at low speeds it is almost a grinding sound, it is not the brakes. My mechanic has heared but sods law meant that it wasn't evident then!. He suggested it could be to with the gearbox but it dosn't really seem to be any specific gear and its only low speed. I am thinking drive shaft or gearbox problem? -
Useful car care products 7 Jan 2008 (Forum)
different ways of polishing a car, but I thought it might be useful to have a thread for particular items that BRoomers had found useful/effective. This is prompted by my recent purchase of some Simoniz 'brake dust repellent alloy cleaner' which seems to combine a wheel cleaner with some sort of coating (silicone?) that leaves the surface a bit slippery. I was originally looking for wheel wax or similar, but this was on offer in Halfords, so I thought I'd try it, and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. -
Peugeot - Baby Seats and long term reliability. 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've recently had a new cambelt and radiator fitted and like the other guy, the aircon is knackered and too expensive to fix. Apart from a minor issue with the brakes going a few months ago, I've had nothing but trouble free motoring in it since I got it second hand. The wife is expecting in April and I am concerned about its reliability and its safety. I was wondering how long I can expect it to keep going. -
Speed of cars approaching 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
There seems to me to be a trend for drivers approaching the "Give Way" lines on a minor road on the left, as I travel along the major road, to be going far too fast and braking at the last moment. On many occasions recently I have been rather concerned that the car is not going to stop before the junction, and of course I have been prepared to take avoiding action. I have also noticed that in many cases the driver appears to be either in "tunnel vision" mode concentrating on the "Give Way" lines, or sometimes even looking to their left to see what is happening on the major road. -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 Suspension problems. 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Suddenly today, rear suspension wouldn't go up. Drove to work anyway, like on a pogo stick! Then brakes started playing up. Put foot on pedal, nothing would happen, pressed harder, suddenly they 'bit'. Nearly chucked me through the windscreen ! (and ruined my mascara). So...... checked the HML level, that's fine.
