  • Suzuki Swift (2005 - ) - 07 1.5 Crash caused by a manufacturing fault? 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
t feel a broken fuse would have caused the accident, indicating towards a driver error. I feel that as the ?red-key? function displayed & the brakes locked, with the steering failing ? surely this can?t all be coincidental?! But due to an error with the cars electrics. My dilemma is, obviously I need the car to be fixed, but if I let the car go into the garage for repairs & for the electrics to be tested ?
  • Car servicing schedules, `Benign Neglect`? 28 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Pretty simple really for a Garage to do something about it, rather than just looking at it worsening every year until the owner is notified a new sump is required. The same with brake pipes, just crying out for a smear of grease from the mechanic who has just serviced the brakes. Perhaps instead its a certain seam underneath that always rusts on a given model and every one knows about it in the trade, but does nothing.
  • Why overtake? 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
When riding with the traffic flow I kept a couple of car lengths back from the car in front to allow for braking or other avoiding action. So WHY ON EARTH did I find that in those 4 miles, 5 cars overtook me into this miniscule space only to immediately cut back across me and brake hard to avoid running into the car in front of us?
  • Recommendations for Agila: 3 choices ... 12 Feb 2005 (Forum)
A 52 plate 1.2 Enjoy, comes with roof bars fitted, radio/cassette, parcel shelf. 16,000 miles, silver, £5295. Again forgot to ask about the brakes. 3. An 02 plate 1.2 Enjoy, with roofbars, radio-cassette, parcel shelf. 33,000 miles, bright blue I think (it was dark when I saw it!), £4795. Brakes were completely out of my head at the time ...
  • 260, 2.0D portfolio XF - Jaguar DPF 11 Sep 2024 (Forum)
They asked for all error msgs first, then wanted the DPF stripped out and photos sent.  garage say DPF a not a consumable like brake pads , clutch etc.  Garage say this is a common failure. so now my car is in bits the cost to fix in excess of £2,200, the car has just done 600mls  at times on 64mpg without error or errors.
  • Peugeot 3008 2010 - Rear numberplate light fuse location 2 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I’ve changed both bulbs that light up the rear numberplate light, however they still don’t work. Where is the fuse located for these? My rear brake lights both work and I replaced the outer casing for the rear numberplate lights a couple of years back as they had rusted. There is no rusting and the bulbs are held in well so I’m hoping it’s just a fuse.
  • Automatic car with EPB advice please 8 Nov 2021 (Forum)
I'd like recommendations for my next car please? I'm looking for an automatic estate car with an electronic parking brake.  I have become disabled this past year and no longer have the strength to use a handbrake or clutch.  It also needs to be an estate so my electric wheelchair will fit in the boot.  Ideally it needs to be ULEZ compliant too.
  • Volvo V40 cross country - To sell or keep 8 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I currently have a Volvo V40 CC that is in the garage being fixed after the service chucked up several issues (mostly brakes and suspension). It’s going to cost me a huge amount. It’s a 63 plate car with 109000 on the clock. It was a silly heart over head purchase. The parts and servicing cost so much. My question is, should I sell it now, with 12 months MOT and in good condition.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet - Mercedes auto box reliability 4 Jul 2021 (Forum)
So we're looking at a car around 10 years old. I quite fancy the auto box which would surely help with the weird foot operated parking brake arrangement on these cars but I was wondering if there were any major reliability issues with the 7G-Tronic box. It's obviously something major and expensive to potentially go wrong so any thoughts/experiences would be gratefuly received.
  • 2008 vauxhall agila - selling and trade in schemes 23 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I bought a 58 plate agila 2 years ago in cash and i’m looking to get a new car in march 2022. i’ve had to get a new windscreen, new front bumper, new brakes, suspension fixed, new tyres and other things over the last 2 years. It was my first car so i need advice about which option would get me the most deposit towards a new car. I’m aware it’s not worth much at all (and i definitely overpaid for it when i bought it but first car so lesson learned) but i’m wondering if i could sell it or if there’s a trade in scheme that would get me more for it.

  • Kia Sportage mild Hybrid information - engine problems. (NOT my car) 3 Sep 2020 (Forum)
From the KIA  Forum   https://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/threads/bang.57156/#post-369645   Driving along merrily at 60 mph, go downhill on the overrun and this loud grinding sound starts, put brakes on and it stops, go to the other side and start climbing grinding starts again loud bang from the boot area ( where the 48-volt batteries are ) then the engine locks up. Called RAC who recovered me to Chaulk at Yeovil, taxi home and Europcar tomorrow.
  • Dashcam footage of dangerous driving. 18 Nov 2018 (Forum)
It was on a section of road with dual solid white lines (which, if i'm not mistaken means no overtaking unless the vehicle is doing less than 30mph, such as a tractor), due to the way the road swung gently to the left, there was no clear sight lines. And there was oncoming traffic, which had to brake to avoid a collision. I was absolutely gobsmacked at the stupidity and recklessness of the driver and it really p****d me off!. Since i got home, thinking about it, since i now have have a dashcam, maybe i should send the footage to the Police.
  • Toyota Yaris - Toyota Yaris 33k for sale at @@@ Motoring World 1 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The service history was as follows: first service at 25k yes 25K at some local "autocentre", followed by a so called 114 point used sale check before sale, despite the fact that  my visual inspection highlighted less than 5k use left on brake pads, front and rear.  I think this used car Kent based super site was playing fast and loose with this cars description, thankfully I walked away and rejected the offer to purchase an extended warrant as well as £700 for Guardex..
  • Attempted add ons. - Tyre replacements. 21 Sep 2018 (Forum)
left.. has now had a note from franchise main dealer who booked it in to check, and did not charge....to forward to fastfit centre saying nothing wrong with shock absorbers, no weeping. brakes which were said to be half worn,, fronts 7mm, tiny lip on discs, no reason to do anything.  rears 9mm. Complaint raised with trading standards who were very interested.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Mot advisories 30 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Stupidly purchased a car on Friday without looking at MOT from an independent garage .MOT was done in July 2018 but has a list of advisories including front tire close to legal limit and brake pads needs changing.Had I checked this I would of been hesitant to purchase or negotiated on price. Do I now get my own service done ? Or is there an type of inspection I should get done ? I did email the garage to see if any of the work was carried out but they have not replied and I strongly feel that have not as they did not mention the MOTduring sale.
  • Suzuki Swift - Wheel bearing fits loosely inside the drum 22 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I've ordered a new rear brakes kit and wheel bearings for my Suzuki Swift 1.5l 2009. On this model bearings are pressed into a drum. I managed to press the bearing into one of the drums so it sits there firmly, but with the other one the bearing just drops all the way in with no force applied.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - Revs dropping to idle when throttle is depressed 2 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I have an issue that started shortly after a (possibly dodgy) mechanic did some work on my brakes. When accelerating, sometimes, the revs will drop to idle, as though the clutch had disengaged the engine. If I pull my foot off the throttle and put it back on, it re-engages and accelerates normally.
  • footwell fun ? 4 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Cars often used to have buttons and switches placed down below (the Austin-Morris dipswitch; the Ford wash-wipe; the least said about Korean/American parking brakes the better), and with the onward march of hybrids and all-electrics, it cannot be long before we are forced into two-pedal motoring for good.  For 90% of the time in this imminent motoring future, the left foot will be idle (HJ-approved parking manoeuvres notwithstanding), so let's find it something to do!
