Peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Toasty Buns 9 Jan 2018 (Forum)
from the cold wife, to the heating on chilling morns threads the £6 remnote control arrived today and by luck the local Aldi had heated car seat s for £10 with 3 year guarantee !! This is just to show that it works, and that it has a range of at least 30 foot it has 2 relays , so maxed out, It can control two 10a 12v outlets As it arrives £6 all in , from my man in the East ;) https://ibb.co/fi7B1m and as an added bonus, the remote looks like a Minion in his big underpants :) https://ibb.co/fn3Jgm This is how I've wired it, as my cig lighter is constant 12v but you could just tap into a heavy duty 12v source https://ibb.co/dvALu6 first steps...very low standy amps . 11milli amps, if not less https://youtu.be/ALoixRtiY4A messing about, to test if it would run a 240v inverter disco bulb , incase you were wondering :) and yes, I did take the video with a potato :) https://youtu.be/A7-cCBro4sY I am trying a spare battery..as the heated seats take 2.5-3 amps and can charge it on the fly https://ibb.co/bsZKnR https://ibb.co/jzSGZ6 Anywho, just to show that it lends itself to other applications. -
Material insurance exclusion - check your policy!! 22 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Is it me, or is this widely known amongst us, the UK consumer? I have a fully comprehensive policy with Admiral. If you do, did you know that... -
Lots of cool retro cars on tv these days 14 Apr 2017 (Forum)
In it, our 2 main characters drive a W123 class Mercedes estate and a Porsche 944. Also, though it was a film rather than a tv series, an early-mid 80's Opel Rekord was being driven by Jude Law in 'Black Sea'!. Very obscure, especially as it was in the UK. I also remember, from a few years ago, a lovely Alfa Romeo (a Giulia i think) being used in an advert for (bizarrely) maltesers! -
All models - Are Volkswagens as good as they used to be. 10 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I have tried to find other makes but apart from 4 years with an early MX5 have always ended up with another VW. The attraction has been the build quality compared to others, I liked the Ford S Max but the chunks of foam sticking out at the seat hinges when the seat was folded put me off. Honda FR-V fitted the bill at the time but the ugly spot welds in the door shuts and tailgate, and paint so thin the primer showed through on all the surfaces not visible from outside with the doors closed. -
MPV required - Car hire in USA/Canada - OMG what a dismal choice 10 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Next we looked at hiring 2 x mid sized cars, something like a Golf, preferably an Estate... with 2 of them we could seat 6 between 2 cars easily with plenty of luggage space. NOT IN THE USA (or Canada) forget it, they only do "sedans" which have s*** about of boot space. Its not as if Vauxhall and Ford aren't USA owned ! This has the potential to ruin a holiday 3 years in the planning, right now I am in despair, don't know what to do. -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 diesel - Squeaking engine 2 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The sqeak noise had been the air pushing through the knackered fuel injector and then when it worsened, the second noise started. This real mechanic saved me 100's of pounds - just thought I would share this as a lot of the other old posts went through the same as I did (but spending money unnecessarily) which is all very frustrating. I would have attached this comment on to past posts but can't see how Hope I help at least one other get to the bottom of their problem... -
Skoda Fabia - Lifetime Components 3 Feb 2015 (Forum)
My cars due for its annual service in the next month so I am trying to establish whether any of the "Lifetime fit" components or fluids would be best replaced in anticipation of failure at this point, rather then let them get to the failure point (As seems to be the VAG policy) and then cost me big ££££s in major component replacement. Citroen Picasso - Nightmare with repair costs/engine 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
They are saying even if I source the correct engine that they will not give a guarantee (because it;s not new) and will also have to replace cam belt, water things and goodness knows what else "whilst the engine is accessible". HEEELLLPPP!! -
Car decisions - can't get past the warranty 8 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I keep telling her what we need is a reliable, ecconomical family wagon with peace of mind... not the potential with something out of warranty to blow up and cost £1000's to fix.... Any thoughts? -
2004 Porsche 996 C2 - Woeful Dealer not fixing problems - Help Needed!! 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hello all I purchased a 996C2 from Stratstone in Aylesbury on the 26th November, after a 300 mile shakedown run on the 29th November I reported 3 problems back to the Dealer: Air Con Not Working Steering Wheel Wobble at 65 plus Appalling Headlights (Porsche Li Tronics) After finally getting the car back to the dealer the Air Con has been fixed but I am told that no problem could be found with the 'wobble' or the lights, in fact i have been told 3 times that the car passed its MOT which I agree with but, they do not test for brightness. To explain further I have about 20ft bright visibility to the n/s kerb and a total beam reach of about 35-40 metres! As the car is under warranty I offered to take the car to a Porsche Dealer to pay for the wobble and lights to be examined, If all is OK then i pay the Bill, If they identify any issues then the car is returned to Stratstone and they fix as part of the Warranty....makes perfect sense to me! -
BMW 320D 07 Plate - BMW 320D SE 2007 Auto - Turbo Failure? 28 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Background: Owned from new, driven normally, driven kindly cold, ticked over after a long run, etc. Done 45K miles, always serviced when dash suggests, first 3 years by Main s******, last one by a credible Independent. On reflection, it has been getting smokier under hard acceleration, e.g. motorway overtaking, but no warning lights have ever come on. I don't really know what to do tomorrow? -
Focus 1.6TDCI Estate - Focus Diesel Problems 13 Sep 2011 (Forum)
My point is that diesels of old could clatter on for years with regular servicing. But now with the advent of DPF`s and the high cost of replacement renders the car uneconomic. The case for diesel now seems obsolete - my next car probably a Pug 207 sw will cost less in the first place, less to maintain, less to fill and should be mid 40mpg. -
Ford Focus - Unreasonable Insurance Claim Delays Grrrrr 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
My renewal date is 20 August and even at the ripe old age of 54 I have been unsuccessful in getting what I consider to be reasonable quotes. I have a total of 6 points (SP30's) both from 2008 and two accident claims, I guess that's why. -
Which Impact Wrench? 24 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hey all, I have an old Discovery and Audi 80 which keep me fairly busy in terms of maintenance and I'm sick to death of spending 3/4's of the job time just trying to undo that pink fluffy dice of a nut/bolt. I'm thinking a decent impact wrench will help ease the pain but there are loads of models out there and I was hoping for some advice. -
Winter driving advice 27 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Non studded winter tyres with ESP switched off is dangerous, summer tyres with no ESP should not be contemplated. Hope this helps, remember, at least 3mm of tread, good friction tyres marked M&S, ESP on(if you have it), keep your distance, plan driving to avoid sudden braking. Drive safely -

Vauxhall Zafira B (2005 - ) - Are all Zafiras 1.8 petrol gas guzzlers? 9 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Are all Vauxhall Zafira?s 1.8 petrol gas guzzlers? A week ago I purchased a one year old Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 VVT petrol, Sri. According to Vauxhall the extra urban mpg is 47.1mpg, town 28.5mpg, combined 38.2mpg. On my 32 mile commute, driving an gently as I can, I get 33mpg maximum, this is 1 mile urban, 24 miles dual carriageway at a speed of 60 ? -
Ten years - Sensitivity with scales 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
There was always a sense of content being somehow `filtered` as though the Harvest Moon tracking overhead could be remembered - and some emotion - residual - but persitant - linked a species constant over millenia - but gilded through Chinese Emporer`s exclusivity, these last few hundred years. Time passed. Perhaps excruciatingly slowly - or it may have been fast, with a regular Human perception of `Newtonian flow` It would have been good to know - in the final analysis. -
