  • Secondhand Jaguar XE vs New 2021 Dacia Sandero - Luxury Secondhand vs New Small Car 9 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Also considering a Secondhand Mondeo for same price but don’t know what engine to consider as I am also worried about DPF filters. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  • Suzuki SX4 2013 1.6 Petrol, 35,000 miles any good? 15 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Mainly as the price difference is quite noticeable and as I do the majority of short town runs it won't have the EGR/DPF troubles of the newer diesels.  My mileage is dropping to around 16 - 17k per annum so I feel that now would be the time to return to petrol power.  Any potential savings on fuel would be offset by the servicing as I believe the intervals on the SX4 are around 10k.
  • Maybe a CR-V - £5k Diesel Dilemma 28 May 2018 (Forum)
I seem to read a lot on the subject that, when you drill down, appear to be talking about newer cars fitted with a DPF (I had to look that up) so I haven't been able to make a positively direct correlation. It probably does, but for a thickky like me it would be good to have it spelled out. My frustration is that my wife & I like high sitting positions of SUVs & MPVs, and in our searches found that we quite like the Honda CRV.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Focus 1.6,1.8,2.0 MPG 9 May 2017 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a 2006-ish Focus petrol (had enough of diesel DMFs,EGRs,DPFs etc!) and assumed the 1.6 would be the most economical. However a few forum searchs show many people are disappointed with their 1.6 economy - never reaching the 40mpg figure. I know these figures are a guideline but has anyone had any experience of the economy of the 1.8/2.0 petrol engine?

  • PEUGEOT 407 SW 07 REG - HELP NEEDED 30 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I have just been ripped of with thie abouve model,I bought it out of the Auto Trader 2 weeks ago, in very good condition inside, but mechanicly absolutey littered with problems, firstly I noticed there was not a lot off torque especially in low gears,so I have took to my local garage where it as been on diagnostic machine for the last four days. At the moment they have found that the inside of the Cat & Dpf have had there insides ripped out and they have traced the Management warning light as been ripped out,and two of the sensors could be iffy,at this moment in time it is still on diagnostic machine but the mechanics have told me there is a possibility it could be the ecu, does any one know of a guy who as a Peugeot Planet diagnostic machine Sandra
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi - Does the 08-11 suffer the turbo problems of 04-07 5 May 2015 (Forum)
HJ's reviews don't mention turbo problems on the 2008-2011 1.6 TDCi facelift model but I am trying to check if there have been problems with those model years as I understand Ford improved the oil supply pipes for 2008+ model year I would buy a 90bhp model hopefully without the DPF if the turbo gets a clean bill of health. thanks!
  • Merc vs BMW vs VAG reliability 19 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Another car I would consider would be the Accord with the 2.2 IDTEC but have heard about some DPF issues with these, and the economy seems to be poor
  • Fiesta 1.4 tdci- Revs fluctuating when cruise control on 18 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I also noticed a pattern where it always occurs when going down an incline. When this happened before I thought it was the DPF regenerating. I am taking it back to the garage in 2 days time and I have made it clear that I refuse to pay the standard charge for another diagnostic when the last one did not solve the problem.
  • VW Polo 1.6TDI 90BHP 2011 - Warning lights - loss of power 11 May 2014 (Forum)
I've told her to use my car and we'll take hers to the VW dealer when I get home (I'm working away for the next 10 days) Could this be a problem with the DPF? or some other electronic glitch. Car has done 18000 miles. Any ideas? I'll also phone the dealer tomorrow but would be good to have some idea of the problem beforehand and how much it will cost to fix!
  • Sprinter;Transit;Transporter - Which - Hi Top Van for local Deliveries 10 May 2014 (Forum)
The new van needs to have a Hi top, wide access for loading ride on mowers via a portable ramp. The van will be used on these local runs so we have concerns about DPF 's blocking as the van will not benefit from a long run except on the odd occasion. Understand the Vauxhall/ Renaults have a poor reliability record and have no knowledge of the new Transits.
  • Mazda 3 1.6 D Tamura 53 plate - fuel in Oil warning light ( MZ-CdD1.6 ) 3 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The drive home is a bit more of a crawl, it was tonight but there is a 3 mile blast in the middle of it. Is this a DPF problem ie, should I take it for a 20 minute blast..or should I get it into the dealers ASAP tomorrow morning ?   Cheers

Hi Guys, I'm thinking of getting rid of my golf tdi for something petrol with less to go wrong. I.e no turbo, dmf and dpf. I've narrowed down my search to the 2 cars in the subject. Does anyone have any experience of these cars? Especially the mondeo, how do you find it with it having a 1.6 petrol engine, what's the mpg like and reliability?

  • Ford Focus CC diesel - £942 for a service and work - pants pulled down? 7 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Guy phones me after two hours and says (a) front and rear discs and pads need replacing (b) wipers need replacing (c) fuel additive needs replacing otherwise the DPF could fail and land me with a £1500 bill (d) brake fluid needs changing   Total bill came in at £942. Any opinions as to whether it's reasonable?
  • Audi A4 diesel saloon - Low-mileage turbro failure 28 Aug 2013 (Forum)
It then used a litre of oil in about 6 miles to the garage and subsequently the turbo, exhaust system and DPF had  all to be replaced, fortunately under warranty as estimated cost was £6,000. The car has engine auto-stop as a default and a journey to the office is 13 miles of motorway, the  off slip has lights and at red the engine usually stops when the car is stopped.
  • Fiesta 70ps 1.4 Tdci - Chipping a diesel? 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The car is out of warranty in November 2014 and I would like to keep it for a while. I have also taken into consideration the cost of changing a DPF. The car is 15 months old.   Thanks
  • Budget Automatic Run Around - Help!! 15 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Could get quite a bit of stop-start traffic on certain days hence the requirement for automatic. I will do the odd motorway run on weekends which should clear the DPF if that's a factor. - Budget 4-5K max  - Need something nippy and capable of not frustrating the heck out of my speed wise. - Size wize - prefer a hatchback but not averse to a saloon.
  • Lexus Gs or Mercedes E class - Next car??? 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Head says Give up car and use taxis when needed and/or hire car for any longer journeys Heart says Luxo barge at 2/3 year old to last next 5/7 years then will be 75 and driving will be hell by then.   Budget can be p to 20,00 Realise issues with diesel and DPF so wondering if Mercs are good/bad in this respect. Would not welcome £2000 bill after 2 years low mileage. Option is GS 300 with petrol Obviously MPG will be worse but on 4000 per year not really an issue.
