  • Car Hijacking 26 Feb 2002 (Forum)
You cannot escape once you are kidnapped, although maybe you will live. The only practical tactic is avoidance. Don't drive a routine route at a regular time, don't wear jewellry, don't drive a flash car, don't leave your doors unlocked, don't allow your car to get boxed in, don't drive in bad or uninhabited areas (although this one was in the centre of town), do pay attention to your surroundings, do pay attention to people around or near you, if in doubt go another way, don't stop at the side of the street and above all else, if you are kidnapped in South America, hope like hell that the police don't show up.
  • Audi a1 sport back 2011 - Cylinder 4 misfire 1.2 tfsi 24 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Hi there I am getting misfire on cylinder 4 on Audi a1 1.2 tfsi. The car can drives ok in 1st and 2nd then struggles over 2000rpm in any gear after. If you keep the revs under this the car runs fine. If you put the boot down and lift the revs the EPC engine management light come on and car goes into limp mode.

So looking for this to trade it in and buy something used/new.Max budget for monthly payment would be 500 pounds a month. I have a drive so can charge at home but would have to get the setup installed.higher range 300 plus miles is needed. Rest not too bothered but if we can get similar higher driving position it would be great, if not also fine.

  • Toyota Auris - Car Struggling To Start 30 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I am starting to suspect that it's my head gasket that's starting to fail and I've kept my driving very minimal until my mate who's a mechanic can look at it. Are there any other things that you'd suspect could be causing my car's problems?  If it is the head gasket how many hours labour is it for a mechanic to do on my make/model?
  • Ford B-MAX - Buying cat s car 12 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I’m trying to clarify that if I got hit in this spot again that the car safety would function still as it should. It’s passed its MOT and I will test drive tomorrow to confirm it’s all driving smoothly as I’ve been advised. I know MOT covers suspension and steering checks but do I need to get a more thorough diagnostic and analysis? I will also check for any signs of movement around the car… I can’t post the pic yet as I’m a new member, it’s on Flickr a/c J FifeXX Thanks for taking the time
  • Premium SE - Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid After 16 Months. 17 Dec 2024 (Forum)
I have refuelled it 74 times since taking delivery, and it is thus far averaging 68.63784 MPG over this period or 25.0585 Kilometres Per Litre. Driving is about 70% motorway and the rest A&B roads. It encourages a relaxed driving style, and is very quiet if you stay within the speed limits. By no means is it quick, but I guess it is not designed to be.
  • Fun weekend car - suggestions? 30 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I believe they are very reliable though. The criteria is preferably automatic, good to drive and powerful enough to have a bit of performance though doesn't have to be a licence loser. Any thoughts on the Mini and other alternatives? Budget up to £20k.
  • MG ZS (1.00Ltr) (Exclusive) (2023) - Help: Tickover Revs on MG ZS 2 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I am aware that from cold it should start high but then reduce as the engine gets hot but we find that it never drops below 1000/1100 even after a long drive. I would love to have your views on this ESPECIALLY if you drive one of these - "is it a fault or not" I would haave thought that the Idling revs should be much less - what do you think? Thank You so much for any help or guidence.
  • Yaris Hybrid/Mini/Jazz/Zoe/ID4! - Quality Small Hatchback - Which One? ?? 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I quite liked the looks of the EV Zoe and possible ID4, but it seems the latest Yaris power train is capable to compete against these? What are your thoughts?  My reasoning for these cars I'm reviewing are I drive around two under 12's for school runs and activities, 80% is urban short distant driving.  Hence for parking I'd like a small car, but I would love a little more space than the Yaris Hybrid offers in the back, and could do without the headache of EV charging.
  • Kia Xceed PHEV - First Impressions 22 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Driving experience is fairly good.  Quite a lot of bodyroll noticeable in the back, so I'm told, but otherwise everything was fairly precise.  It has that odd Kia false-heaviness in the steering where it's quite slow around straight ahead and lighter as you turn.
  • Ban touch-screen controls in cars! 31 May 2023 (Forum)
More and more, it’s not just the infotainment settings, but essentials like the heating controls. I’m currently driving a hired Hyundai Tuscan and the heating controls are low down on the touch screen, and being completely flat I can’t find the button without taking my eyes off the road for longer than I’d like to.

  • Vauxhall Astra - Non UK resident car insurance 24 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Recently we bought a car in the UK which is garaged at our elderly father's house. We made him the registed owner even though he has no valid licence and can no longer drive. Between our two families we make several visits totalling more than 90 days per year but, having now bought the car it seems our non-resident status makes it SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO INSURE any of us to drive it.

  • Ford Fiesta - Car Insurance in UK - living abroad query 21 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Would it be wrong to just allow the policy to auto renew without informing the insurance company that one person now lives abroad and isn't regularly driving the car?  I worry whether this would mean they might not pay any claim in the event of an accident or loss? Many thanks.
  • Speed limits and tailing drivers 28 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I am based in NE Scotland and driving for almost five years now. Never had a speeding ticket and would very much like to keep it that way. I am a stickler for speed limits, never underspeed and where safe keep to the top end of the speed limit.
