  • Dangerous Driving. 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
M8 Glasgow going east bound just by the Glasgow royal cut off. Witnessed the most dangerous/stupid driving I have ever seen in my 20 odd years of driving. A white taxi and a blue ford focus are in the outside lane. From what I seen the taxi was not pulling in quick enough for the focus. So when the taxi driver pulled into the middle lane the other driver decided to pull up beside the taxi and give the 1 or it may have been the 2 fingered salute.
  • Two cars to choose from - what would you choose? 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I do a lot of miles, hence the diesel. A test drive of the mondeo was really too short to get a feel for the car. I had 10 minutes and was told by the dealer that if I wanted a longer drive I need to hire one! So, should I go for the sensible choice (Mondeo) or the less practical option?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Estate options for 5k 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Do the Zetecs have sportier suspension than the others, or is it just cosmetic? I'm reasonably happy I've made the right choice (ok, it might be an idea to drive one first), but any advice would be appreciated. And feel free to suggest alternatives, although SWMBO, who will be driving it most, does have some irrational absolute no-nos including Skodas and Nissans; sorry.
  • Still driving a badly damaged car....! 6 Aug 2007 (Forum)
can't imagine an 02 reg Corsa with that much damage AND a knackered head gasket or worse would be economic to repair......and her driving it around like that was bound to cause problems eventually......it was a warmish day in a big traffic jam. for the amount of damage potential driving a car with a knackered radiator, why not hire something cheap or as it's a city get public transport.
  • 98 Megane gearbox problems after floods 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I've got a 98 Megane 1.6e RT Sport, done 87,000 miles. On Monday was trying to drive to Sheffield from Manchester during the very heavy rains. Was driving through 2-3" of water on a flooded section of road. An HGV came the other way, and passed through the water at about 30mph. The resulting wave went over the roof of my car (and the cars in front and behind), rocking the car on its suspension.
  • Autoaid 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Evening all, Earlier on I had the pleasure of coming off the Polegate roundabout, going into 3rd, lifting clutch, and....nothing - no drive! The drive shaft on faithful car has broken :-( Straight on phone to Autoaid (my choice of breakdown cover) and within 20min recovery lorry turns up (not bad for a Sunday!), I tell him what's wrong so he doesn't waste time fixing it, loads up, and drives me back home to Brighton.
  • BMW E34 1992 test drive 6 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Once I had taken it for a test drive the steam had disappeared and there was no coolant warning when the car stopped. I am assuming this is just condensation and the car not having enough time to circulate the coolant as I think it had been stood for some time
  • Thoughts from holiday 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
BTW, rented a Focus Saloon Auto (to keep Adski happy). I just love them. Great ride, fast, economical, roomy and simply good to drive. If it wasn't for SWMBO I would have either a Skoda or Ford now. Badge snobbery keeps me in a lovely Subaru (she drives a Hyundai??) but I could save fortunes in a great diesel Ford or Skoda. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • IAM driving techniques 17 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Ok for an automatic compared to park - I don't like the reversing lights of the car in front to come on when queued. Since being taught to drive, I have always put it in first to be ready to pull away at the right time. Only the last observer said I should do this and a benefit is that it wears out the clutch less. Is that true? I keep the pedal to the floor, not at biting point.
  • Touran, Espace, Galaxy or 807??? 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
My argument is that we need the space 5% of the time when we go on vacation, the rest of the time and most of the week it will just be myself driving an empty van around. My solution would be to buy a luggage box for the Touran to boost the available volume as and when needed. Does anyone out there have a simillar experience? Will I regret taking the smaller car, would I hate driving about in a Galaxy etc?
  • Drink Driving Limit - Approximately....? 19 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I post this as a result of a conversation i had in my local last night, that caused a fair bit of confusion, and which really would be helpful to know. Although i personally don't drink at all if i'm going to be driving, many of my friends do, and although i know the legal limit is 80?mg/l? of alcohol in your bloodstream, and that this can vary depending on size/weight, APPROXIMATELY how much is this in standard 4-5% pints of lager???
  • Omega Auto Gearbox Problem 9 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have an Omega 1994 2.5 V6 with auto gearbox which has the following fault. The vehicle drives fine in normal drive mode, kicks down ok, changes up & down ok. However if I put it in sports mode and accelerate with the pedal flat to the floor the box fails to change up and as it hits redline I get a warning light and the text " Automatic gearbox".
  • Help ! Careless driving ? 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Isn't Careless Driving a serious offence ? Help !! Any advice gratefully received.
  • Should she really be driving ? 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I don't want to sound ageist and realise that there are other, far more serious, problems on our roads but should the rules on driving beyond a certain age be changed and tightened up. There seem to be hoardes of old folks who can't see past their steering wheels in cars round here.
  • Driving Licence Withdrawn by DVLA 13 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Because of this he has to have an eye test every 12 months. When he had his last test in September 2001 he was given the all clear to continue driving but this year the results were less good and he has had a letter from DVLa telling him that his licence has been withdrawn. This has had a shattering effect on him because his main pleasure in life was to go out in his car.
  • Highway Code 5 May 2002 (Forum)
After turning left onto a street which had cars parked on either side ie one lane only available I saw a Volvo driver reverse out of her drive saw me obviously waiting for her to drive back onto her drive to clear the road but no she continued to reverse then had the gaw to drive head on upto my car. She expected me to reverse directly onto a main road which had a blind corner ( difficult to get out of even if you were front facing) she sat in her car waiting waiting waiting for me to move.
  • EU strikes again ! 14 Mar 2002 (Forum)
This is the EU Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive and it seeks to impose time limits on the numbers of hours driving or operating vibrating machinery. It concerns, mainly, lorry drivers and farmers and might result in, for example: Lorry drivers being restricted to 6 hours driving per day. Tractor drivers being restricted to between 6 and 8 hours driving per day.
  • State of UK Roads 23 Jan 2002 (Forum)
To the forum, I moved back to Cheshire from London a couple of months back after being away for 2 years. As I drive round more and more, rediscovering roads I used to frequent, I can't help but notice the appalling state the roads have deteriorated into. Loads of country lanes I used to really enjoy driving on I now wouldn't dare take my new car onto.
  • Rust 13 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Daimler Benz have publically (after months of denying)announced in Germany that there is a severe rust problem on all E class models upto june2001.The worst rust appears to be under the seal rubbers round doors windows etc.and suspension mountings. The problem appears to have started when they started using stretch body panels to make the car lighter but retain rigity. On another subject I recently returned to the UK to see my family and had to drive the full lengh of the M1 and M62 in both directions. As far as increasing the speed limit I found most Uk drivers are not capable of driving never mind driving fast. Also the truck drivers tailgating at 70mph should be locked up.I never saw one police car on the whole of the M1 trip and only two cameras both in Yorkshire.Laned disipline ,lack of indicating and tailgating well what can you say.I drove the previous month 6000km throughout Europe France Spain Italy Austria and back to Germany and never saw anything like the Uk .No wonder insurance is so high in the Uk compared to mainland Europe.I would say driving in Sau Paulo Brazil is saver than London, perhaps Mark will comment on that.
