Mobility scheme cars. Do the sums add up? 11 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Ten years ago I bought a three year old ex mobility car for around 25 to 30% of the new list price. During its time on the scheme the previous user handed over their benefit payment to have use of the car. This monthly payment also covered tax, insurance, servicing and even tyres! -
Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 170k miles - Car UNDER heating 9 May 2017 (Forum)
When water pump failed when it went to red, electric fans cut in. Other than that, it never goes above (and rarely reaches) 1/4. Car runs ok, heater works fine, and because of the above instances I'm happy that gauge/fans work ok. It's just that in normal use (long journies included) it never seems to warm up properly. I'm old enough to remember having to blank off part/all of the rad grille on cars years ago (you could even buy rad blinds) and I'm thinking of making some blanking plates (prob plastic held on with cable ties) to fit behind the chrome grille. -
Parking Charge Notice from Excel Parking - HELP! 28 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Last month I got a parking ticket for the day when my wipers went whilst I was out, in the rain. As I was driving I pulled over into the car park I was next to and they've given me a ticket. I appealed explaining why I was there, that it was a practically empty car park and that I didn't leave the car. I had my 10 month old daughter in the car, I barely managed to even drive in to the car park and the RAC were on their way so I wouldn't be long so I just didn't even think to pay and display. -
Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol 02 plate - Poor connection on fuel pump 7 Jan 2015 (Forum)
If it's the connector can just the connector be repaired/replaced or is it a whole new fuel pump? And can it be easily done or does it require a mechanic? Obviously it's an old car so don't really want to be spending a lot of money on it if I can help it. All help & advice greatly appreciated. -
Hyundai i30 diesel vs Seat Leon 1.2 TSI 22 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The car will also be used to do long cross-country trips too on a monthly basis, so I want something that will also be a good relaxing long distance car. The car we buy would be kept for a long period (current car 9 years!) -
VW Passat 2008 Estate 1.9 - DIY Oil Change + Used Car Warranty 22 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Also, the oil filter cap is unbelievably tight and unsure whether that has been replaced recently The car came with a complimentary one year full used Toyota warranty, which touch-wood has not had to be used yet. However as the car has a turbo and I want to look after it, I would like to do my own oil change which I have done on other cars in the past. -

2002 Ford Focus TDCi 115 - Lumpy idle after injector recode 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Last week car was running fine, then glowplug light came on during a journey. Went into limp mode and next day car wouldn't start. Local garage took it to local diesel specialist who diagnosed that the injectors needed recoding. -
ford focus 1.8 Tdci 2003 - Poor restart lack of power 20 Nov 2012 (Forum)
If I where to press the accelerator pedal I would get no revs on the car the engine is just ticking over very low. If I take the clutch to the biting point and just manage to rock the car back and forth the revs will increase and the accelerator pedal will put revs on again but this can take upto 10 mins then when I then set off the car is ploughing white smoke out for a while and doesn’t seem to have anywhere near as much power as it should. -
Mycarhelps a car donation 12 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Donations, however are making one of the larger impacts to our society. An old beat up car, which may seem to have no value at all can be sent to a charity service, which in turn will use the car for various purposes. These purposes can range from using the vehicle as a transport car for a charity organization, to selling the vehicle to a general buyer or one of the recyclers and then using the proceeds for charitable purposes. -

Head or head? 20 Sep 2009 (Forum)
In February we ordered a 1.8TFSI Audi A3 sportback which arrived in time for the 09 plate registrations. It replaced a Saab 9-3 and at that point we planned to make this our only car by also retiring our old Mazda 323 when its MOT expired in September (as I was taking the train to work). When the scrappage scheme came out we went and replaced the 323 with an i10 - which is a surprisingly good car and the Mrs is delighted with it. -
Advice on replacement family car 16 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Well new job in a month or two means the beloved A6 2.7 Avant will be going back (company car, no such scheme in new job) so I will need to sort out a new family car. Has to transport a family of four with two youngish kids. Usually a few hols in the UK each year and numerous trips around the country to relatives etc, so has to be big enough to cope (decent boot space plus decent cabin size to allow for car seats, also like to avoid the need for a top box and will on occassion be used to lug DIY bits around!). -
Hyundai Accent (1994 - 1999) - Year???? 1.3 - battery failures. 6 Apr 2008 (Forum)

Car has vanished into thin air! 29 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I find it hard to believe the car has been stolen (who would nick a 13 year 405? with a knackered engine?) and I'm worried that there's been some sort of admin error and the car is sitting in a yard racking up a massive storage charge. -
Warranty history? 11 Mar 2007 (Forum)
A friend of mine bought a 12 month old Laguna from a franchised dealer that was advertised with just 3k on the clock and a bargain at £7,995. Turned out the car was a lemon with a catalogue of repairs required under what was left of the original 3 year warranty - very inconvenient as the car was off the road for weeks on end but at least no hard earned changing hands for my friend. -

Garages - am I being paranoid? 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Wife phones me and says garage say the rear blade (a favourite in my experience)is knackered and so is the alternator belt (on a 2 yr old 25k car!)do we want them changed (at our cost, despite the car still being under warranty). Tell them no says I. I get back home and inspect the rear wiper blade and sure enough it is ripped to a length of approx one inch from the end. -
Jaguar series 3, V12, starting problem 4 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It had been misfiring intermittently and then stalled and refused to restart. The spark plugs were found to be beyond their useful life despite not having reached grand old age and changed. On trying to restart the car, after turning over the engine for about 5 seconds, the electrics shut down. The car was started by turning the ignition swith to II (to run the fuel pump) and bypassing the starting relay and the circuit that controls the relay - the engine fired straight away and ran smoothly. -
New car - zoom, zoom, zoom 29 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Haven't driven a diesel for about 20 years but it feels great and you'd hardly know it was not a petrol engined car. I live on a steep hill and it fairly raced up there no problem. I guess it feels a bit quciker than it is since it is a very large car but thus far the only disappointment is the turning circle which is nowehere near as good a my old RWD volvo estate.
