BTW, my elderly neighbour is trying (maybe successfully...) to sell me his ancient but low mileage Renault 4 van, fitted with original pattern Michelin Xs!
  • New Ford Chief Exec 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Carly Fiorina didn't sort HP but it's back on track now since she got fired. Anyway next major Ford headline IMHO is a tie-up with Renault/Nissan I suspect... before GM do it. Rob
  • The girlfriends wonderful mind 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
sher recently had to have new discs, pads, tyres and tracking costing around £300 and the poor girl was devastaded at having to spend that out and not being able to get a new pair of shoes or something new to wear. so this is why i am astounded at the way she drives her car around. she takes speed humps at about 50mph, and wonders why i get mad explaining that new supension aint cheap. her car is diesel and starts it straight up with out waiting for the dash lights to go off, then wonders why it sometimes dont start first time. when i question her on this her reply was "the man at renault didnt tell me what to do" i am constaly filling up her washer fluid (not leaking she just loves using it) and washing it. are all women like this even after we try to point them in the right direction, even my sisters are like this.
  • Nissan Almera 1.5 SE W Reg 23,848 Miles 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
It's quite ironic as they offered one of two options for replacement to replace with genuine nissan caliper at £186 not even in stock ( According to the dealer they never have to replace them which I find very hard to believe , which is why not stock item ) Or a non genuine one a brand called Blueprint at cost of £130 (two year warranty) Which one do you think I choose ? . I just wonder if nissan being part of renault is affecting nissan's longstanding reliablity what do you think ?
  • New Van ? 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have driven hire SWB transit 280s and citroen relays and found both severly underpowered. My curent thinking is along the lines of a Renault master with 3.0 disel or Merc sprinter. Any thoughts with regards to reliability and suitability apreciated. The van is to be bought second hand I have a budget of £12000. My isuzu manages motorway speeds up to 95mph so this sort of ability would be great (fuel economy is not important).
  • Clio Diesel cambelt 25 Jul 2005 (Forum)
It's just coming up to MOT time and because it's never had a replacement belt I've asked the garage to replace the belt before doing the MOT. They tell me, however, that it is a pig of a job on the Renault diesel. The 'book' time is 4 hours, but they seem to recall it took them about 6 hours the last one they did. Now, I have to say that this garage we use for MOTs is 100% trustworthy.I have never actually come across any other garage that equals them for honesty and reliablility, so I don't doubt them for a moment on this.
  • Max your air-con. 30 May 2005 (Forum)
Tried these techniques in three cars today, A Seat Alhambra didn't seem very effective whereas a Renault Modus and Seat Leon where as cool as i think i could get them. So to conclude, any more tips for maximum cooling with air-con??
  • Laguna DCi 130 v Golf 105 v A3 2.0 tdi? 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I don't like the look of the MkV Golf (SWMBO does though!) but seems to get good reviews and the Renault seems well specced in Expression trim & the Dci unit seems well regarded. Is this a tough choice to make? any comments welcome Mark
  • A danger with low profile tyres 16 Dec 2004 (Forum)
It is very difficult, by using the normal visual check, to spot a tyre that has started to loose pressure. 1.With more and more vehicles equipped with such tyres should remote tyre pressure monitors adopted as a standard fitment? 2.IIRC some Renaults have them but are they reliable?. 3.Are any clever enough to cope with one adjusting pressures to suit load and speed? 4.What other considerations are involved? I was reading a fatal RTA report where a slow puncture, due to a screw, in an almost new tyre was cited as the reason for loss of control of the vehicle.
  • Getting on with LHD. 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
A quite rare experience for me last couple of days, had to take a LHD French registered Renault Laguna back to France that a errant punter had brought over here when she shouldn't have. Now I get along with left handed cars just fine in the past, I enjoy driving something a little different and in some ways I prefer driving on the 'wrong side'.

  • Buying a damaged repaired car 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
This was his reply: 'It was driven up a kerb (hence new wheels), all the parts that were replaced were genuine brand new renault parts and were a new front bumper and some parts underneath. It was then put on a geometry machine to check it was all straight. It has been proved by the fact that after 10k miles there is no uneven wear on the tyres.'
  • toyota vs. nissan diesels(+CHIPPING) 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Nissan Almera/ Toyota Avensis/ Corolla Hello all Having started a new job 45 miles form home unsurprisingly the 40mpg I`ve been getting fro mmy `98 Renault Megane isn`t enough. I love driving and in an ideal world would be zipping around in a nice sporty number, but sadly not when I`m covering 500 miles per week!! So, I` resigned myself to less performance than petrol, but would obviously like something as good as possible.

  • Newer car advice 5 May 2023 (Forum)
This is favourite but trying to find one that's newer than 2009 within a reasonable distance from Gloucester is very difficult. Renault Kangoo 1.6. Again trying to find one that isn't wheelchair accessible near to Gloucester is difficult. They're all automatic which I hope is torque converter and not very economical. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202304286773216 Vauxhall Zafira Tourer.

We have 0 plans for more kids so with 15k is it possible to get the best of both worlds? Cars so far that have caught our eye are the focus st, audi a3, ford kuga and a Renault kadjar. I'd looked at a few 3 series bmw as well 318i and 320d but my dad says it costs a fortune to service and run a bmw, is this true? Any help and suggestions welcome.
