Marea maintanence 15 Dec 2002 (Forum)
This seems a bargain. To ensure that i get my value for money, i am sticking to basic rules such as oil change every 6 months, regular wash and wax etc. I have booked the car in for a oil change and brake fluid change at halfords, and also asked for a power steering fluid change, I was sure that i read someware that this was good practice ( the car has now done 27,000), but was told by halfords that there is no need to change, there is no drain point, and to drain would involve breaking the curcuit, and therefore a replacement part would be needed - is this true? -
Diesel and heating oil 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
(it doesn't have any). It says on the burner to use No.1 heating oil. I don't use it often, but have nearly run out of oil. I recently changed the filter and cleaned the burner, but need more oil. So, can I use diesel instead of No.1 heating oil? That way I can just buy a little as and when. -
BMH - BMW high mileage examples 11 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Is a high mileage BMW a money pit or can they go the distance if properly and religiously serviced: auto gear box service say at 70k, regular oil changes say every 10k etc etc. A full BMW service history in my opinion is worthless as so little is done and what is done is done at length service intervals. YTOu could buy a BMW at a dealer with FSN at 45k miles and its only had two oil changes - ridiculous. -
VW Golf 1.6 petrol 2003 mk4 - This locksmith from Ebay programs my key 27 Dec 2016 (Forum)
He had some trouble connecting to the car computer and burnt some wiring ( around the ignition coils)in the process of trying to do something. He changed the wiring and said everything was okay and left. Now the oil pressure light is flashing. I changed the oil 4 months ago and the level is fine. I changed the oil pressure switch just in case but that made no difference. -
Nissan TerranoII 2.7 TDI (2004) - Changing the real differential oil 24 May 2013 (Forum)
However, there is still a squeaking/squealing noise after about 15 minutes driving/over 50 MPH. I've been advised to change the rear differential oil, but I am completely and utterly un-mechanically minded/skilled, and really don't know how to do this/where to start! The fact that there is no such thing as a workshop manual for the Terrano doesn't help...can anyone give me any basic advice/a diagram maybe on how to do this? -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 aluminium block big end change 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The oil control rings were nearly always completely stuck and exerted NO outward sealing pressure. The history of the oil being used was the most common suspect. Any one else heard of any success on these zetecs. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1.3 Where to get car serviced? 13 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My car could do with a service the plugs are getting onto 18 months old and the oil has not been changed for 11k. I want the gaps checked on the plugs and replaced if needed and also the oil changed. I will do the rest myself. I usualy go to my local back street the last few tiems its taken ages to get simple jobs done, I was thinking for an oil change and plugs check would itbe ok to risk a fast fit centre? -

Mayonnaise in oil cap VW Golf 1.6 - gask 21 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Mayonnaise in oil cap VW Golf 1.6 - gasket ? Friends' Golf IV 1.6 (2-valve one) went into National for an oil change, and they told him he has mayonnaise on top the oil - they reckon the head gasket has blown. Could it be anything else? -
Removing oil from concrete 16 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Finally got round to doing the oil-change on the Almera that I've been putting off for weeks (months!). Only problem is that just as the last few dribbles emerged from the sump, a gust of wind sprayed oil all over the parking area outside my house (and all over me, as I was under the car). -
VW 505 01 oil in B4 engines? 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I run three turbo diesels, one needing VW505 01 and two French motors which specify B4 oil. Am I right in thinking that VW505 01 oil is a tougher spec than B4 and I therefore only need to keep one oil in the shed, namely a fully synth 505 01 spec and use it in all three engines on a 6k change cycle? -
Two stroke oil - any difference? 14 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've just aquired a two-stroke petrol strimmer, no manual or stuff but I've found it should run on 40:1 two stroke fully synthetic oil. Is there anything to stop me using fully synth normal car oil - I've got half a container of Halfords stuff left over from the last car oil change. cheers Martin -
Peugeot 3008 - Turbo Failure 12 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Where do I stand? Who pays for this new engine? Peugeot claim they have carried out 2 oil & filter changes, 1 at the service, 1 at the turbo change. So why now the problem and recommended new engine? Anybody have some advice!? -
96N Peugeot 405 19.TD oil in air box 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a 96N 405 1.9TD, which has done 126k miles, and has been serviced regularly. I had noticed that the exhaust was getting quite smokey lately, so changed the air filter, which cured the problem - and it is now running a lot better, is much more responsive, and the excessive smoking has now disappeared. The filter was last changed 6k ago. The problem was that the left side of the filter seemed to be soaked with engine oil. -
