Expensive or cheap service 2 Sep 2003 (Forum)
However I would be able to have a 30k service as have completed fewer miles. The 40k service costs £270 and 30k £180. The difference is for plugs, air filter and fuel filter (sounds not much for £90!). I am a bit worried about going for the cheaper option as it means the plugs will not be changed until the car is 5yrs old. Any opinions - am I about to be ripped off - it is currently booked in for the 40k. -

How to remove rear seat in a Micra? 7 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Following on from my previous message out Nissan Micra K11 requires a new fuel pump so we got a new one , it retails at £104 vat  from nissan (got it for like £90 though as I know someone there), local motorfactors wanted between £180- £350  Anyway, you need to pull the rear seats out to get to the pump. -
Supermarket buying advice 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Previous postings I could find have been favourable. Also am I likely to get anywhere if I push for extras in the final negotiations (mats/flaps/fuel etc.)? Any comments would be will be gratefully received. -
940 B200FT cutting out 17 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The OBD 1 diagnostic unit causes the lambda light to come on and reports fault codes 1-4-4 (fault in or to bosch LH2.4 ecu). He has had a mobile tuning firm out and they suggested replacing the fuel pump relay (a common fault on these cars), this had no effect. He then called the RAC who said they didn't carry the correct software, however the OBD1 system appears to have no port for connection to an external computer, the RAC guy did however suggest that the fault was not related to the ignition amplifier as the fault isn't temperature dependent. -

. £146 covers the following: -Engline flush -Mobil 1 and filter -Air filter -Spark plugs -Coolant change -Fuel filter -'Checks on brake fluid boiling temperature, steering, suspension and so on' (what exactly this covers I don't know) I like using them as they do report back about anything they notice, which is reassuring. -
nissan micra 1.3 n-ctv 28 Mar 2002 (Forum)
When idling in park, over a period of two minutes + when warm, the engine rev's drop, then increase dramatically without any pressure being applied to the accelerator. My local non-Nissan mechanic is at a loss. After changing the fuel filter without any appreciable improvement, he is understandably reluctant to progress further without an indication of where the problem lies. have you heard of similar symptoms? My mechanic has a hunch it may be due to electrical problems relating to the CTV gearbox. -
Economy of Automatics 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I can accelerate as fast as any racing driver(in the same car) ? every time. So my question ? has anyone got statistics on fuel consumption, running costs etc of manuals and automatic models of the same car? From a fleet user perhaps. Bob -
Tune Up. 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
It broke down on the A23 - loss of power, pulled over, failed to start. AA say it isn't the HT Circuit and thought it might be Fuel Injection. AA towed to her driveway. Do you folks have a Southampton franchise? Contact number? Is this the sort of thing you can do? I suspect it may need some diagnostic work if the AA couldn't get it going... -
A303 - European Superhighway? 30 Oct 2001 (Forum)
The services at Hook on the M3 are the last 24hr services until Hindon. Then there are 24hr stations every 10 miles. Salisbury Plain is not the place to run out of fuel. A "Major" Euro-Route with 80 miles w/o 24hr services. No wonder so many drivers fall asleep at the wheel and wipe out 3 other cars on this road. -
Merc Idling Cut Out 30 Sep 2001 (Forum)
The car is maintained regularly - but not by a Merc garage- and recently had a service but as the problem only happens when warm they spent forever looking for it unsuccessfully (very annoying). I have fair mechanical knowledge but am a bit inhibited as this is my first fuel injected car. Does anyone have any ideas? At least then I can be forewarned should I bite the bullet and go to a merc garage or specialist. cheers tt -
the US auto world 3 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I think that many who read this site might enjoy it... http://cartalk.cars.com/ oh BTW reference the cheap USA Fuel every one talks about... it depends where you live... keep in mind the large distances that one sometimes covers in the the US.... driving 70 or 80 miles for dinner is not considerd strange in parts of the west... where I live on this Island Super Unleaded is 55 cents a liter but distances one travels are low... and right now there are places in the US where it can be as cheap as 30 cents/liter but these tend to be places where the next farm is 20 miles away and the town is 50... -
Help - polo probs 25 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I suspected that the jets were worn, but they were checked during the recon, as it appears that either the fuel is too rich or weak when the idel jet is active. The car itself is in really good condition, okay it has got 95k on the clock, but has full service history and had been lovingly maintained. Can anyone please help? -
Oil Type - GTI Teenagers 22 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Also, a large number of 17 year old GTI drivers run their 13 year old 160,000 mile motas on Mobil 1!!!!! With the notorious valve stem oil seals on the Golfs they must cost more mpg on Mobil 1 than the fuel itself. Is there any point running on Mobil 1 on such a car? -
Spain 22 May 2001 (Forum)
Drove across From Zaragoza to Madrid, sometimes travlling at 200 Kph, along beautifully maintained and arrow straight roads, when the roads passed through villages and towns, obviously we had to slow down, but instead of finding a Speed camera or a craftily hidden copper, they have a system which will turn a set of traffic lights to red if you approach the well marked sensor at over 50 Kph. Spain obviously hasn't caught on to the use of the motorist as a revenue "Cash Cow" - the fuel is much cheaper too - Diesel approx 45p / litre. I want to go and live there !! Why do we continue to put up with the shoddy tratment by this Cynical and dishonest regime ? -
1988 Audi 90 Quattro re unleaded 4 Apr 2001 (Forum)
My brother currently is running a 1988 Audi 90 Quattro 2.2 injection 10 valve. He is running it only on LRP and it does state that it will only run on 98 ron minimum on the fuel filler flap. He is going to get rid but would keep it if he could run it on unleaded without a great cost of conversion. Does it need hardened valve seats or just its ignition timing changing? It is a cracking car even at 141,000 miles and he is loathe to lose it as his girlfriend is hankering after a MK II Golf Driver as it is of similar price range and has more space but isn't 4WD and is a bit dull - no offence Golf drivers! -
Removing Catalysts 19 Nov 2000 (Forum)
What precisely are the rules on this, and has anyone any experience of a) MOT testers' reaction, and b) cars running, performance and fuel consumption after modification? You said reduced back-pressure might be a problem, and in one case recommended an intermediate silencer in place of the catalyst, in another re-chipping. Should the Lambda probe be welded back into the pipe/silencer, or taped up out of the way but left connected, or unplugged? -

Honda Jazz ES 2013 - Jazz, 3 months later. 1 May 2018 (Forum)
This is easy to manage because fuel economy is the best I’ve had in any vehicle for years. Best of all, after an initial burst of complaint from 'er indoors about the low position of the passenger seat, “its all gone quiet over there”.
