Insurance prices on the up 28 Jan 2015 (News)
Young drivers faced larger increases than other motorists with a price rise of 4.5 per cent. The average premium for a 17-year-old is now £1983. The rises are partly linked to decreased fuel costs and economic growth – with more traffic on the road there is a greater likelihood of accidents. Despite the insurance premium increase over the last three months of the year, the price of insurance fell overall in 2014 by eight per cent – an average of £51. -

More than 500 of these five-to-ten minute long films were made, specifically to be show in Odeon and Gaumont cinemas. They were shown before the main feature, and had replaced the old newsreels, which had been rendered obselete by the arrival of television news on ITV and BBC. Each episode of Look a Life documented a theme or an aspect of British life between 1959 and '69, with transport being a popular subject. -
Fatal accident claims Emma Wilkinson on the Peking to Paris 12 Jun 2013 (News)
Emma, aged 46 with two children, was with her partner and fellow participant Peter Davies, who was not hurt in the accident, driving Car 92 – a 1970 Chevrolet C10 (below). The Tyumen region police reported that the incident was a head-on crash between the British driver’s Chevrolet and a Volkswagen Polo. They added the Polo’s passengers, a 31-year-old man and a baby died while a woman is in intensive care in hospital. -
Citroen fits telemetics system to C1 as standard 19 Feb 2013 (News)
The C1 Connexion is available for £10,170 with the Trafficmaster telematics system, but those who would like the car without the system fitted can get hold of on for £9820. It features red detailing inside and out and was designed with input from Facebook fans. It’s powered by a 1.0-litre engine with 68PS. -
Powershift Grants Extended to Older Vehicles 11 Oct 2001 (News)
Grants for the conversion costs of new cars and light vans will be revised from 1st April 2002 and will range from 30% to 40% of the conversion cost, depending on the level of emissions improvement. The Powershift Register lists all models for which approved conversions and grants are available. -
'New' SAAB 9-5 from October 5 Jul 2001 (News)
SAAB lists 'chassis revisions to enhance driver control', which presumably means less of the severe understeer which was a characteristic of the old model. 'Improvements to power, performance and economy' are also listed, together with 'enhanced safety systems' and 'subtle styling changes'. That's all they're telling us for now. -
Classic car rally hopes to raise £150,000 for charity 19 May 2015 (News)
At the lunch and throughout the rally, participants will mingle with legends from the road car and motorsport worlds. The event will be filmed by Channel 5’s The Classic Car Show, which is hosted by the supermodel and car fanatic, Jodie Kidd, and distinguished car expert, Quentin Willson. -
Mercedes 190SL Gets Kids Vote at CarFest North 11 Sep 2012 (News)
To encourage kids interest in classic cars, Hagerty International invited its Junior Judges to vote for Car of the Show at Chris Evans hugely popular CarFest North, in aid of BBC Children in Need. These judges, aged from 8 to 14 years old, were given the job voting for their favourite classic car on the car club stands in the glorious sunshine at Cholmondeley Cadstle last weekend. -
Rally-bred Manta 400 for auction 24 Nov 2017 (News)
An evaluation by the Manta Owners’ Club scored the car's condition as concours A1 in all areas, and it has been given a pre-sale estimate of £40,000 to £50,000. Richard Greenhalgh, Classic Car Auctions classic car specialist, said, ‘We believe that only 12 examples were produced in Astro Silver making this one even more desirable - especially with an indicated mileage of just 28,000 miles.’ The car is accompanied by a history file containing the original import documentation dating from 1984, receipts and photos of the car throughout its restoration, and an old MoT dating back to 1990, which shows the mileage at 18,414 miles. -

In addition if a vehicle (including a motorcycle): has been issued with a registration number with a ‘Q’ prefix; or is a kit car assembled from components from different makes and model of vehicle; or is a reconstructed classic vehicle as defined by DVLA guidance; or is a kit conversion, where a kit of new parts is added to an existing vehicle, or old parts are added to a kit of a manufactured body, chassis or monocoque bodyshell changing the general appearance of the vehicle; it will be considered to have been substantially changed and will not be exempt from MOT testing.
