• Need suggestions on buying a fuel efficient car 7 Jan 2011 (Forum)
  Since I am using the car for long journeys should I go for Diesel cars? But currently the diesel prices are higher than petrol, so do I really need a diesel car? 4. Is it preferable to go for a new car or an used car? 5. I dont have the full money to buy a new car, so I will go for finance.

  Just noticed that I have a diesel leak coming from a unit just below the inlet manifold to the right of cylinders 1 and 2 - it looks like the leak is coming from the top of this unit where the fuel feed pipe (from the fuel filter assy) enters at the top.

  I am thinking about replacing the fuel filter on my 59' plate Fiesta diesel. It has covered 74000 miles and don't know if it has been replaced since new. Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of? Do I just replace the filter and turn over the engine until it fires?

  HonestJohn, In your Car Advice column for The Telegraph, 13th Jan 2012, you advise that Shell V-Power is the best petrol and BP Ultimate is the best diesel. Can you tell me why you believe this to be the case?  I'm aware of the argument put forward about cleaner fuel systems and delivering better economy it's just what is about one specific brand versus another.

  Thinking about purchase of a Nissan Terrano diesel 2.7TDI manual. Particularly interested in fuel consumption figures be it real world or govt figures. Also peoples experiences good or bad. Looking at circa 1998/9 with about 70 -80 K mileage. This falls into my price bracket of approx 4K.

  Hi can anyone help me I got a 1999 expert van I was driving and it just cut out there int getting no diesel to the fuel filter but it will start if I put diesel in the filter then cuts out again I even was pushing the manual pump on the filter but it don't pump no diesel up

  I've always thought of Rovers as old mens cars, but just seen this one and it's great on fuel as it's a diesel, in a nice black and silver, with leather seats and has done 64000 miles and they want £3000. mot due in aug though. Any thoughts?

  Just read an article on MSN predicting this due to the widening chasm betweente prices of Diesel and Petrol. What does everyone think. Also I have never had a satisfactory andwer to why Derv is so much more expensive when it is a cruder fuel and needs less refining. Surely it should be cheaper?

  short n sweet put unleaded in my citreon diesel xsara drove 3 miles just made it back engine still running just, what damage am i looking at knowing the fact that i have to drain the fuel tank any thing else i should replace? thanks ps non turbo engine

  i have a n reg mondeo diesel, regularly serviced not starting both when warm or cold battery cranking ok.was told it could be drawing in air and the most likely point being the fuel filter head,replaced this but to no avail.also engine very noisey at injector pump at the same time as the fault appeared,any connection?

  Ive been wondering this for a while, with fuel prices rising more and more people switching to Diesel cars, indeed for the first time new car sales has had Diesels in the majority in the UK, but is it a false economy? In almost every case brand new the diesel variant of a car will cost more than its petrol equivalent, even with better fuel economy and lower VED it can take 1-3 years (even on medium-high mileage) to break even and then begin to see profit.

  Hi there, I don't know if anyone can help me but I've a 1994 Renault Master T35D camper van with a non-turbo 2.5 diesel engine. Recently it's been getting air in the fuel system to the point that I can't start it from cold without first priming the fuel filter by pressing the plunger pump around 30 times. After that it starts ok.

  I have an old Mazda 626. After a visit to a specialist aircon garage to get the air con fixed it developed a diesel leak. Not sure if this leak is related to the mechanic trying to fix the aircon as the leak is where one of the fuel pipes enters the engine block. It doesn't seem likely this area could have been disturbed but it is a bit of a coincidence that the leak started when it did.

  Hello Everybody, Just wondered if anybody can advise me on the diesel fuel sender ??? I have just bought the mondeo diesel estate and filled up the tank and it is only reading between 3/4 and 7/8 full, How difficult is it to change if i have to and are they very expensive.

  In the column Honest John regularly recommends premium petrol such as Shell Optimax. Is there any benefit to my car, e.g. longevity, fuel economy of purchasing Shell Diesel, Shell Diesel Plus or am I best to stick to Tesco's cheapest? I am interested in technical details or other websites if anyone can point me in the right direction please.

  I'm very dissatisfied with the fuel consumption of my Accord diesel and I'm inclined to write to Honda saying this. Would other Accord diesel owners do the same thing, so that if Honda were to receive a shoal of such missives they may be inclined to take action?
