Insurers' refusal to backdate certificate 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Insurers advised that they had sent it to me in good time but it must have got lost in the post, but nevertheless they would send me a duplicate one at no extra charge. The so called duplicate certificate arrived on 14th stating that my cover was starting from 13th and not 1st. Showing therefore, in spite of my paying, no cover for 12 days. No amount of me going up the chain of responsibility will get them to give me a certificate dated from 1st. -
Roadside Recovery Woes 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
It was stuck in gear and disengaging gear proved near impossible... 2 hours from the initial call the truck turns up (not an AA vehicle, but a third party garage), excellent i thought especially at 2am! With the car being stuck in gear the driver moved on to tell me it would cost an extra £105 + vat to get off the motorway as he would need to go "specialist". Thinking I was covered under my AA policy I queried this to be told I would only be covered for a basic recovery... -
Test Drive Insurance 30 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I sold a car recently, thankfully the guy was serious and insured the vehicle before turning up. My insurance only covers me to drive. It allows me to drive other cars on third party basis. If you have someone with no car, it is unlikely they have any form of insurance (not even third party). -
Insurance and potential buyers 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I'm about to sell one of my cars and wondered how fellow posters deal with the issue of buyers test driving cars. If I let a buyer drive my car with me as passenger and then he crashes the car I won't be covered by my insurance. Should I refuse the buyers request however they aren't going to be too happy. -

Alfa Romeo 5 year warranty ? 16 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Alfa ads in the last few days have advertised a 5 year warranty and 5 year Roadside cover. Can't remember hearing about this before so is it across the range or just the cars in the ads ? -
1999 Rover 75 Diesel 30 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I am really looking for some advise before I purchase my next car. I have been offered a Rover 75 2.0 Diesel from my dad. It is one of his fleet cars and has been solely owned by the company since new. The problem lies with the mileage. Although the car is in excellent condition and has been maintained regardless of cost, it has covered 210,000 miles, most of which are motorway covered. -
Vw bora - Footwell leak 28 Jul 2014 (Forum)
First the pollen filter cover had split. I repaired this with some plastic. I also checked the drain at the side, but this was clear. Bear in mind that the water entering the car is not under pressure. It's simply finding the easiest route down. -
peugeot bipper citroen nemo fiat qubo - advice on buying a nemo/bipper/qubo please 26 May 2014 (Forum)
Hi I currently own a metallic blue 2003 citroen berlingo multispace 1.9 diesel, its a great car with plenty of space and only covered 58k miles, but i am thinking of selling it and buying a citroen nemo, bipper or qubo car because they are newer and i think look better. I need space for my part time work so i usually drop the berlingo rear seats down to fit my equipment in. -
BMW 5 Series E60 - BMW engine stop/start button 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Does anyone know if the car has an upgraded alternator or some kind of energy recovery from the brakes to allow this? I've read the manual from cover to cover but it glances over this, so I suspect it's more of a gimmick than anything useful! -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.8 Oil change on diesel 10 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I thought normally oil in diesel cars would turn black immediately. Is this down to the good condition of the engine, the quality of the oil or driving characteristics? Some points: Car has covered 105K (up to 67k it was a lease car probably used to pound motorways) I rarely go over 3000K revs I change the oil between 7000-12000 miles depending on the type of driving done The oil cost £15 for 5L, semi synthetic (carlube from sutton auto factors, is £15 a bit cheap for semi syn?) -
Mazda 323 - Battery not working then works 28 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Went out for short trip this evening, stopped car and left lights on max 5 mins, went to start car and it would not start so called out breakdown services. Tried car 30 mins latter and it restarted, would could of caused this? Car is used for short journeys as second car covering around 1600 miles per annum, maybe this could be a factor. -
Audi A1 Sportback - Audi sprucing up black interior plastic 1 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Used black stove and grate polish on the car today to cover scratches on interior plastics. Can’t believe how good it looks. Just hope no one gets in the car with white trousers on now! Has anyone else used unusual products on car care? -
Spot your car in Google Earth 22 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I see that Google Earth has released its street view service for the UK. It only seems to cover major cities and they've blurred out faces and reg numbers but I'd imagine a few here could spot their cars at work or in the drive! And whatever your views on the big brother aspect, it is pretty amazing technology. -
Renault Scenic - Used car warranty problems 3 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I don't think this would be fair. It's not something I can afford but the car is under warranty so should'nt they still have it covered even if they find the turbo not to be the problem. financially, it's very risky for me. Any advice would be very much appreciated if anyone knows. -
Car storage & insurance 26 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Apart from sell the Fiesta and get something else for youngest when the time comes... PS Direct Line said that if I insured it using option 2 under wife's name, my own Fully Comp cover wouldn't give me TPFT insurance so I could take it out sometimes. My policy says I'm covered in a "car not belonging to me" or something like that. -

Brake disc rust 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I noticed today how quickly the brake discs on my car get that light covering of rust on them, especially with the weather being warm and wet. So I just wondered if the rust contaminates the brake pads and would that affect their performance? -
