  • A sobering thought.. 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Moderators,-please bear with me, there is a motoring link! Looking through some old colour slides yesterday, I came upon a series that I'd taken of the Red Arrows at an air display. I was reminded of an interview I'd seen a few years ago, where the pilot was asked if he was nervous about flying in close formation at 450mph.
  • Military Road 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Very little traffic, no speed cameras and the traffic police are much more interested in the the A69 (in fact my bro, who is in the know, tells me they now only have 2 "jam sandwiches" and their unmarked car has been taken off them). Do give it a try but only if you stick to 40 mph so that when I come along I can overtake you more easily.
  • Renault Clio 1.2 n reg. wet engine 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Anyone know if the engine should have a splash panel or the like to prevent this happening. Is there anything I can do to prevent this. I know in my old mini I used to tie a piece of plastic to the inside of the grille.
  • Peugeot 406 indicating left by itself 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I also wondered whether a weak battery could cause these electrical maladies. It is the original (almost 6 years old) and the car does a lot of short journies. Any ideas gratefully received. I'll be visiting my trusted independent next week.
  • Tracking - Wheel Alignment - Audi A4 5 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The car has done 38K miles and I have never bashed any kerbs or suchlike, can this be the symptomm of wheel allignment being hightened by the different tyre tread pattern ? I also find the steering lighter than it was before with the same pressures I have always used.

  • Picasso alternatives? 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
We'll test drive another to be sure but, alas, I need to consider Picasso like alternatives that offer as much new car as possible for the cash. Other than old shape Zafira's (Not a fan of them at all) I am a bit stumped. We want the MPV shape btw - that is the only criteria and I'd like a diesel. Any suggestions most welcome. thanks as usual Zafira Scenic (turbo issues with DCi?)
  • Interim Oil Changes 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
yes - sorry this old chestnut. I would appreciate a word of advice from you trusted back roomers please. I am usually in full agreement with the Servicing and oil change principles recomended by this site i.e if you want engine longevity then complete an interim oil change at 6 monthly intervals etc.
  • recall or service bulletin 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I recently suffered cam chain failure on a three year and 8 day old Nissan Navara. I made a few inquiries and was aware that there was an isue with the cam chain, I appealed to Nissan customer car and was left with a £1400 bill. I know find out that Nisan new they had a cam chain guide mounting problem, the mounting bolt holes are failing and this leads to either catastrophic failure or the chain guide prematurly wearing out.

  • Thats Lucky... 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My sister and husband who live overseas have had to return to UK and are staying with us while she receives hospital treatment at a specialist hospital some 20 miles or so from us for the next 6 months. I can use my company car so I asked More Than what it would cost to put BiL as a named driver on my Civic so he can drive her to hospital and explained the circumstances. He has held a licence since 1956 and is 68 years old.
  • bangernomics vehicle of choice 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
(Although I only do about 3K miles a year so maybe it's not much of a challenge) Therefore I was wondering about an old Audi 80 or VW passat as they seem a useful size and can be picked up for just over a grand in reasonable condition. Prices (in general) don't seem as cheap as they were a few years ago so I was wondering whether this form of motoring still makes sense or if I should just stop being so tight and go and buy a proper car.
  • Time to trade for a Rover? 1 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Hi guys, I'm just thinking aloud really, but I was wondering what you guys think of the MG ZR/Rover 25 cars. With their values now seriously hit, I was thinking about trading in the 1.6 Focus for a 1.4/diesel one of the same 51/02 year and releasing some £££...do you reckon they'd be significantly worse?
  • The best fun in a tin can 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
We bought a Suzuki Wagon R+ Special (1.3 16v Auto) for my mother. Two years old, 15,000 miles. I have been driving it for a couple of days and about 120 miles on a variety of roads inc motorways and urban jams. What fun! Great revvy engine, loads of room and cubby holes, easy to get and out of, clear undemanding dashboard and controls.

Is this also a known symptom of gasket failure? By the way, is £350 dear for the head job on this car? Seems dear to me. Thanks, Pete
  • Time to sell the MINI? 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Been toying with the idea of selling the MINI for the past couple of weeks - they seem to be everywhere now and with them coming up to 3 years old they'll start to become more common (and thus cheaper) used outside the dealer network as the warranty will have expired. What Car? spoke about the prices softening used and even Top Gear demoted it from "subZero" to "unCool" last night.
  • cleaning window guides 14 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My electric windows are not working very smoothly and judder over the last fraction of the range prior to shutting. The newly acquired S/H car has been valeted prior to collection and I suspect some of the sticky cleaner stuff that some dealers insist on using is the cause. I think it is on/in the window seals. On an old thread the advice seems to be that silicone in some form will make the windows operate more easily.I am looking for some dry silicone as used for curtain track.
