  • Six month lay-up 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My daughter's leaving the country for six months, and will be laying up her five year old MX5, by leaving it outside on a hard standing. I've suggested a car cover and solar trickle charger (although they seem mutually incompatible) to no avail. I've convinced her to put the hard top on.

  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 99 2.0D Is there a HDi problems FAQ? 27 Jun 2008 (Forum)
SO "clean connector x that sits here, it tends to corrode" or "sensor voltage should be between x and y". (Certainly not "take it to the dealer and expect the fault code reader to work on a 9 year old car" :o)) Any leads, or input, gratefully received.

Hello I recently had my old Mk1 Fiesta tuned and it's running much smoother now - the ignition was very retarded and emissions were borderline apparently. However, I'm getting some mild pinking under acceleration and was wondering what is the best way to solve it.
  • 'Bike' magazine first issue 10 May 2008 (Forum)
The month's Bike (June) comes with a reprint of the 1971 first issue, which makes fascinating reading for old rockers like me. In those days, it was a spin-off from Car magazine and had similar editorial standards (i.e. high) and I wonder if the current publishers will come to regret reminding their readers how much better written it was back then!
  • Golf Estate V Octavia Estate v Roomster Scout 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Time to change my company car. I have been offered the choice between the Golf SE estate, the Octavia Ambiente estate or the Roomster Scout (all 1.9tdi). I have the Octavia at the moment ; so I would really like a change. So it's between the Golf and the Roomster.
  • Need an 8 seater 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I'm Ness and new here. I'm looking to buy an 8 seater now that my old galaxy is dying so that I will finally be able to fit all my family into one car. I have up to £8,000 to spend max, and would really like something to last me as long as possible. It will probably end up doing a lot of motorway miles unfortunately.
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 2006 1.6 HDi - Clutch problems-38k 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hello, I have just purchased a 307 sw 1.6hdi. Its 2 years old with 38k on clock The clutch pedal seems to get stuck down when I first get into the car. It seems to ease up after a few pumps. I have to flick it back up by hooking my foot underneath it. I have trouble getting into first when the pedal is stuck down.
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class estate S204 - Privacy glass? 30 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I'm just about to place an order for a new company car, and have decided on the new C220 CDi Sport Estate, however, I notice Privacy glass is listed neither as an option, or standard. This is strange as the old model had this availability... Anyone got any ideas why?
  • Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - Right to reject? 11 Feb 2008 (Forum)
It's ruined one holiday, made another very difficult, left me by the side of the road four times, and caused me work related problems when I've not had an appropriate vehicle for my own company's work. I'm sick of it, and don't regard this as acceptable any more. I don't want the car back, and I'm wondering what my options are, given it's 25 months and 60k miles old. Do I have any? All thoughts appreciated.
  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 01 2.0 auto 24k - Change the spark plugs ? 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Having never owned a petrol car before, do these things still need spark plugs changing occasionally? Performance seems fine (although acceleration at about 70mpg is poor). Anything else I should replace? According to the book, the cambelt's due towards the end of this year.
  • Mazda MX5 (1998-2005) - MX5 brake pad shims 19 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I have been doing jobs like this for years and usually manage to get them back in with a bit of juggling! So option one is to use the car for a few miles and see if the initial wear allows sufficient room for the shims which of course they eventually will (the new pads had some abrasive compound on them to clean an old disc. I would imagine that this will wear off in the first few miles), but my concern is, if I take it back to the testing station on Monday, could they fail it again if they notice that these shims are missing?

  • BMW - SWMBO bored with our 240-260 bhp MKV Golf GTi DSG 14 Aug 2007 (Forum)
The only options I can think of for 15-19K are E39 M5 or E46 M3. Which would you choose and can you think of any other options. The car in question must be reasonably practical, fast (ie more than the Golf which is lackluster at best despite it's handling prowess) and not too old or unreliable. I only see the two BMW's as options- which would you pick and why?
  • '98 Pug 406 - Overreving, Fault code 202 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hi all; My old 406 (1998 2.1 Turbo Diesel) has developed a fault which could be very serious. There is a general lack of power, and if the revs go above 3000, it can go into overspeed and shuts down. Rather embarrassing in the outside lane.
  • Toyota "With you every step of the way" 24 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Toyota Head office customer relations promised a response within 3 (then) 14 days but after 7 weeks they have confirmed that they cannot force the dealer to reply as they are not owned by Toyota. Fortunately I am enjoying driving the car.

  • Excellent VW customer service 3 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Found the radiator had a small leak, new radiator fitted no hassle, and under warranty. Even though I know the car is only 2 years 10 months old and this should be the case, the no hassle/straight answer approach was truly appreciated by myself. VW can get it right, perhaps some of dealerships could learn a thing or to from this dealer.
  • Ford Warranty Question 24 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have a Mondeo TDCI 54 which is now 21/2 years old which I believed came with a 3 years warranty. I am having difficulties in establishing exactly what is covered by this so called warranty. For a few months I have had problems with water getting in through the rear passenger door seal and according to the dealership this is not covered by Ford!
