Honda Jazz. - Help! Looking for new Automatic - opinions needed. 8 May 2019 (Forum)
I am thinking about the Toyota Yaris, possibly the hybrid? I want something light and nippy and fun to drive. Good fuel consumption, and cheap to run. Not much to ask lol! I could go back to gears I suppose, but automatics are so easy I am reluctant. Any suggestions gratefully received. -
Suzuki SX4 2013 1.6 Petrol, 35,000 miles any good? 15 Dec 2018 (Forum)
My mileage is dropping to around 16 - 17k per annum so I feel that now would be the time to return to petrol power. Any potential savings on fuel would be offset by the servicing as I believe the intervals on the SX4 are around 10k. I would be doing a small service at this time of year and the major one in June as the MOT is up in July Am I correct in thinking these have a timing chain and a single mass flywheel? -

Why the difference between Diesel and petrol 7 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Up in the north west of the UK, We often get the cheapest prices of fuel on the forecourt and over the last couple of years, the difference between diesel and unleaded has been 2p give or take a little, Now diesel is almost 10p higher than petrol. Can anyone explain why the big difference . -
New Kia Sportage 1.7 Crdi 8 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I read around that 1.7 Crdi is very sluggish, so can someone compare this 1.7 Crdi Kia to Honda CR-V 2.0 Petrol in term of performance? And what real fuel consumption of this 1.7 Crdi in Kia Sportage i can expect? The other option that we think about is Suzuki Vitara, but if i pick Diesel Engine and similar Equipment they are similar price to Kia, and Look that Sportage offer more space and comfort than Vitara so im not sure that we should think about Vitara at all. -
Audi A4 TDI 2.0 S Line / Black Edition - Tyre Performance (19"low profile) 16 May 2018 (Forum)
important;">I am disappointed with the performance of the wide tyres on my current vehicle an A4 Black Edition 2.0 TDI Audi. These are 255/35Y R19 Continentals - in particular with their contribution to fuel economy; also performance as soon as I am off of a level tarmac surface; as well as handling when cornering at speed.Honda/Nissan/Kia/Skoda - Is an Automatic box worth it? 31 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Hi all I previously wrote a thread about what fuel next? But after delving into the best auto boxes for my type of car, budget and driving it got me thinking.... Is it worth having an automatic box for 10k miles a year in 75% stop/start traffic and the rest for family rural trips and holidays. -
Fabia II TDI 1.6 CR 2010 - Diesel Engine stalling. Blocked injectors? 29 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Which I dont do as its short country return trips a few times a week at 60mph for 7miles at a time and odd weekly 35miles return journeys. Can I just clean the injectors with a fuel addistive like "trade" Forte or carlube etc? Or would it need ultrasonic cleaning or more drastic work? There is a glow plug symbol flashing which is a general fault symbol apparently, going to get it plugged into diagnostics at the garage tomorrow. -
advantages of a "big four" engine ? 13 Feb 2018 (Forum)
My brother-in-law is about to take delivery of a top-of-the-range (Spanish market) Mazda CX-5 which has, apart from all the bells and whistles, a 2.5 litre four cylinder engine. Skyactiv engines have been getting quite a reputation for fuel economy but I am surprised to see such a large four-pot engine in production. I always thought that a large engine naturally meant a straight or V-6 to improve torque and reduce friction etc. Colt/Lonsdale once shoehorned a pretty large 2.6 litre four cylinder engine into the Galant model, and the postwar Riley "Big Four" was highly regarded in its day, so am I missing something? -

Sheep shearer in Spain needs advice 8 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I shear sheep all over the Basque Country and need a new vehicle: Needs to have room in back for a lot of equipment (metal frame, wooden boards, toolbox trunk, dog crate. Needs to be able to access tough, rough tracks. As I do a lot of miles, it needs to be fairly fuel efficient. Also needs at least 3 seats in back. Have been looking at 4x4 kangoos, dangel partners, berlingos, vitara lwb. Any ideas? Nissan Navara any good? Budget up to €6000. So far have been using our family megane estate with a roof rack and at times a trailer but it's getting wrecked on the rough terrain and my wife isn't very happy about taking it to work the next day smelling of sheep! -
passat or insignia 22 Nov 2017 (Forum)
warranty direct seems to make it seem like there is not much of a diference in the reliability of the 2 cars and the insignia seems to be better on road tax and fuel so is it better to just get the newer insignia or is the reliability of the vw worth the slightly higher miles. thanks -
Volkswagen touran 1.6 TDi - Black coolant Bad fumes 18 Sep 2017 (Forum)
When the VW garage completed this update the EGR failed and as a "goodwill gesture" they replaced the EGR. Fuel composition has been significantly reduced, with frequent regen. I began smelling a strong acrid smell in the car, enough to burn my eyes and back of throat. I returned it to the VW garage and they agree about the fumes, and they also found the coolant to be black with what appears to be soot. -
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe - Service & MOT costs 19 Jan 2017 (Forum)
I have been quoted £660 for a MB dealer "main" service to include brake fluid change and oil, air and fuel filters change. (diesel 2.0 litre) Their MOT price is £35. One advantage is that you get Merc roadside recovery with the service for one year. Local Merc specialist (ex merc trained owners) is £260 inclusive. -
Ford Mondeo Estate 2005 tdci 135000 miles - 2005 Mondeo tdci startup issue 25 May 2016 (Forum)
On startup it does one of three things: 1: starts perfect, both cold and warm 2: acts like it's starved of fuel, starts fine but no throttle response for a few seconds then roars into life chucking out bluey/black smoke 3: starts fine but has a clunk/thud that sounds like it's from the back of the engine. -
Subaru Outback - The age old question 21 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The logic behind my choice is that I do a bit of country pursuits so the AWD will come in handy from time to time and I like their reputation for longevity. The question is what fuel and gearbox type should I go for. I am a lazy driver so like the idea of an automatic (or CVT in Subaru case) but am not convinced it is the long term choice. I do about 8k a year and 5 days a week it will be used to drive me to work 5 miles away my current car (520d SE) does not even get warm by the time I get to work. -
cant decide between 328i and 330d 21 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I'd been told that BMW petrols have weaker resilduals but I wonder if that will change with the current climate on diesel bashing and also the move to a more economical 4 cyclinder turbo petrol over the older thirstier 6 cylinder petrols. I'm also not sure how things could change over the next couple of years on VED and fuel duty for diesel. I wondered if the petrol might be a safer bet. Any thoughts? -

SEAT Ibiza - Put diesel into petrol engine by mistake - please 2 Feb 2015 (Forum)
She tells me that the chap from the AA made a passing remark saying that it would be a good idea to get the fuel filter changed asap. Do you think this is as urgent as it sounds, or can I get it changed in the next few weeks, or get away with not having it changed at all !! Thanks in advance for your responses. -
Dodge Nitro - fault code P0087 6 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi there, about 6 month ago I was having problems starting my vehicle, not turning over quick enough to fire but would start instantly with a jump start so I replaced the battery. When I took it to get the engine management light reset the code was P0087 so I replaced the fuel filter and put a diesel cleaner through it and no problems until 2 weeks ago when symtoms returned ie needing jump to start the car and the fault code is the same, done same as before and great for 3 days then car went into limp mode started again to go out and has been running great again (but engine man light still on ) but had to jump start any suggestions on what I can do now, cheers, Andy..........
