  • Ford C-MAX - Ford radio - not ‘locked’, not asking for code 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
We had the battery disconnected for a few months while away, when we reconnected the radio asked for code. There were some wrong attempts, but it didn’t get as far as saying ‘locked’. We now have the code but the radio doesn’t ask for it, I guess it might be permenanyly locked out but it doesn’t say ‘locked’, you can still use the screen, navigate, but radio/cd doesn’t function.
  • Seat Ibiza Mk III - Boot light curiosity 27 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Odd one here folks I'm hoping has a straightforward answer I simply can't see - like many others I imagine, my car (Seat Ibiza Mk III 2008) has been basically sat on a driveway for a year, so I've had battery issues. I bought a mains-powered trickle charger as a stopgap until it's safe to go out and get it either reconditioned or replaced. The confusion I have is with my boot light. A few months ago while at the supermarket I noticed it was no longer working, and assumed the bulb had gone.
  • Any - Automotive Multimeter 3 Jan 2021 (Forum)
https://tw.forumosa.com/t/car-battery-wont-hold-a-charge/63235/38 Seems I got my just-failed general purpose meter about 9 years ago on the recommendation of a local British mechanic, a Made in Taiwan model that was considered to be a fairly good one.
  • Seat Leon - Dealerships refusing repair 8 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Considering second day after buying the car I deicovered a lot of faults where radiator and air on was not working and thermostat needing replacing etc. A week later the battery went. Shows they clearly didn’t look at the car beforehand.
  • Ford Kuga - Key fob will not unlock or lock car 5 Jul 2020 (Forum)
So used key, and that unlocked car but obviously alarm sounded. Still managed to start car and drive. Have replaced battery in fob, and checked contacts etc. Checked fuse in car and that seems OK. Still does not unlock or lock car. Doing this with key. I tried starting car with the key fob inside the house, and the display comes up with 'key not detected', so obviously car can still detect if key is present.
  • Citroen C Zero - Hidden High Costs of Owning an Electric Vehicle 8 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Our last car was a diesel and we had this for 14 years and did over 150,000 miles in it and the engine was still fine when we got rid of it.  On enquiring how much it would cost to replace the battery it would cost £5,000 ,  So are we heading for big environmental problems in the future when all these electric vehicles have expensive failures and have to be scrapped.
  • Peugeot 508 RXH - Issues with shock absorbers Peugeot 508 RXH 17 Oct 2019 (Forum)
    1. Is it normal that a rear shock absorber fails after 46k? Is this caused by the weight of the battery pack in the boot? Anyone similar problems? 2. Car is under warranty. Peugeot recommends that both shock absorbers are replaced at the same time. What would anyone else suggest? Unfortunately the warranty will only pay for the one faulty shock absorber to be replaced so we need to fork out for the other one.
  • Any - Giveing the car a run 24 Sep 2019 (Forum)
We have a 9 year old Suzuki SX4 1.6 petrol from new and it's never missed a beat except for consumables alloys its needed was a new battery at 8 years and and break light bulb a couple of years ago it's still on its original headlight bulbs.  For the  last couple of years its become the commute to work go to the tip car so hasn't had more than a 10 mile journey.
  • Ford Fiesta - Lack of power on cold start, low revs & stalling 31 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Also, the average MPG has had a notable drop from 33 to 22 so fuel economy is very poor. Already tried replacing the battery, no warning lights are shown on the dashboard. Could it be a blown head gasket? I’m led to think because of the popping noises and lack of power. Thank you in advance

  • Nissan Terrano II (1993 - 2005) - 1993 2.7 turb No power to glow plugs 3 Apr 2017 (Forum)
The glow plug relays look fine with no corrosion at terminals and sound as if they are clicking on and off ok, the glow plug light on the dash comes on as normal aswell. The starter motor and battery are both recent so i dont think its them. I have been told to check the earth from the wiring loom but dont know where to find it. The car was in the garage for two weeks having other work done but for the whole two weeks started fine so they couldnt investigate the problem.
  • Peugeot 308 - Tensioner/Alternator belt 4 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I immediately took it back to the Franchised garage I had just bought it from and who had fully serviced it prior to sale and their diagnostics revealed "P058D00 Battery voltage value invalid". From this information and running further tests the garage subsequently advised me : "Found movement in top tensioner - found very noisy; renewed alternator belt and tensioner as per TSB".
  • Golf 1.6 Mk VI Match TDI DSG - VW Golf TDI Mk VI intermittent Starting Problem 18 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The Car has been to two VW authorised service centres and the diagnostics tests have not shown any fault. The Battery, Glow Plugs and Starter Motor are all fine. Any ideas??
  • Efficient choice? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I've got about 15K to spend but I'm happy to borrow some cash if it makes sense to get something more efficient. I've considered various hybrids but most seem to only do around 30 miles on the batteries and are then not particularly efficient. a BMW i3 (range extended) might work as the amount I think I'd save (compared to my recently departed 29mpg diesel) would cover the amount I'd have to borrow.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D 56 Plate - ECU Problems 22 Jun 2015 (Forum)
In the 2 years I've had it, it has started and run every time without failure a few times the battery has gone flat, but always started with jump leads.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec 2005 Mk2 - Speedo reading zero now no electrics 7 Jun 2015 (Forum)
No electrics at all, hazards, lights etc. The mileometer faded in and out a few times then went completely. I'm sure the battery is OK, not had any problems with it but I'll try charging it anyway (It would have to be completely flat). Looks like I will have to call a mobile electrician. Could the speedo sensor be responsible for this loss of power or do I have two issues?

  • Honda accord Tourer - Used Honda Accord sport 2.2 cdti tourer 2006 24 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Drives well, clutch fine, but needed a slight dip of the accelerator to start it, tho it could just need new battery. Checked for the common problems on the model like the exhaust manifold was ok, but not been replaced either. Timing chain sounded ok - maybe slight rattle when first started. VCA light came on and off and the button operated it ok.
  • BMW 3 Series Compact E46 - Old Car Electrics 7 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Surprisingly the car started and ran OK with all the lights out but removing the key left all the lights etc still on. Disconnecting the battery turned everything off but reconnecting lit it all up again! I get a feeling that HJ is right about old electrics but this seems a case of pay up as it is quite a decent car, nowhere near scrap.
