  • Audi A4 B7 (2005 - 2008) - two clutches in 4,000 miles - I do NOT believe it! 11 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My company took delivery of a new Audi A4 1.8T on contract hire in late June last year. Seven weeks and 1,700 miles later the car was at my local dealer with "clutch problems". After several days I collected the car, to be told that the clutch and throttle had been replaced, all under warranty. The service technician informed me that the problem was due to a "manufacturing defect" and the use of "substandard quality materials".
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - Citroen C3 HDi - Our used car choice. 21 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The fact that we had owned Citroens on and off for 30+yrs was obviously a factor but we wanted the best car for our needs and the C3 came out tops on merit. Bought from the local Citroen dealers in the end... mainly for the assurance of a genuine car well prepped and warranty free of get out clauses.
  • BMW 1 Series, E87, 116i - Problems with the car on a cold start 17 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Hi, I recently purchased a '57 plate BMW 116i 4 months ago from Arnold Clark and it has 2 years mechanical warranty. Mainly used for short commutes to work and back (less than 10 miles one-way) and going about town. Occasionally take it out for longer journeys to give it a good run. For the past month or so when I start the engine cold the car shakes from side to side, the revs drop below normal idle speed (pressing the accelerator does nothing) and it makes a noise like it's about to stall.
  • Now an MR-2 11 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Not many used on the market, and they seem to be at very high prices, but the way he crumbled worried me a bit. What are the disadvantages from buying from Tradesales? Are the cars to the same spec and have underseal etc?

They both have small farms and tow trailers and horse boxes etc. One is brand new and the other second hand. The new one was about £20k and used one about £16k. Looks like a lot of car for the money. A dealership is located about 15 miles away in Maidstone for servicing etc. They come with a 7 year warranty too. I shall watch with interest their progress.
  • SEAT Ibiza - Getting extras fitted in from my dealer or garage 25 Jun 2014 (Forum)
LED lights. Do you think I should have these extras fitted from the dealer (and have the warranty in place)  or go to a private garage to have the work done? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I use the car as a cab so its well out of warranty mile wise, 108,000 greatful for any help i can get
  • VW/Golf - Drive Shaft 9 May 2011 (Forum)
Not only will this cost £300, but there is also a surcharge of £150 which will be refunded if VW can use the broken part again. Does this sound right? The garage has said this is a very common problem on VW 07 cars. This is very annoying as there are only 25k of miles on the clock. Has anyone managed to get VW to replace this post the warranty running out.

  • Vectra Air Con 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Con probably being the operative word. The first day this year when I *really* needed the aircon, which I incidentally use all year, we have another minor explosion and then pfffffffffffffffft noise. No cold air. This is the third full set of aircon pipes I have had under warranty. I have no confidence in the current set lasting any longer than a few months.
  • Is this good value? 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
It has been and continues to be relatively problem free though there are a few scratches and stone chips and the alloys have a few dings commensurate with the mileage and use it gets. The car will be supplied with a 12 month warranty and they are asking for £4968.00 and have offered finance at 4.9% APR if we need it. First thoughts are that this is reasonable and it will get my wife on the first rung of car ownership.

  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.6 Gearbox Nightmare- Specialist help required 26 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I bought a Polo GTI (2001 model) privately in May ?06 the gearbox and clutch failed in Feb ?07. I took my car to my local garage who fitted a refurbed box and new clutch supplied by another garage in Warrington. This box was ok until August ?07 when it started whining, so I took the car directly to the garage who replaced the box under warranty.

i recently bought an audi a3 2002 1.9 TDI with no warranty and it drove fine no problems. however when i got to below a quarter of tank of fuel the ESP light came on and at first i thought the wheels where spinning but then i started to lose power and when i hard acclerate the whole car shakes quite bad when in idle it sits rumbling and shaking. i put more fuel in and it stopped. then it happened again when i got to below a quarter again but this time i put more fuel in and it keeps doing it the car used to be quite nippy but now its more like a 1.2 than a 1.9TDI does any one have any ideas on what going on?
  • Volkswagen Passat 2010 - LED Rear Lights 25 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I arranged with my dealer for the car to be looked at ( Harlow Volkswagen ). Using "guided fault finding"  ( their words ) and found that all feeds supplies and earths to lamps OK,  and that both rear lights were  faulty and needed replacing.
  • Dacia Sandero - Dacia Sandero 8 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I notice these are growing in popularity due to their low purchase price and I visited the local dealer yesterday and had a look at a 1.2 Ambience model which had electric windows, central locking, CD player and all the safety features for £ 6800. Also the car was a lot bigger inside than my 58 plate Fiesta and seemed very well put together. Normally I buy used cars for about £ 6000 and the one I have is well out of warranty and the bills are starting to mount at MOT and service time.
  • VW Passat Estate - Coil springs 3 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Having purchased a '56 SEL model in 2008 with 49K on the clock from a VW main agent, I was suprised to be told at the first MOT that one rear coil spring had broken. The car was 2 days outside its warranty period but VW, when contacted, agreed to pay half the repair cost. Subsequently, up to the present day, the other three coil springs have broken and replaced using genuine VW parts.
