  • NissanAlmera - audio equipment 23 May 2001 (Forum)
I have just bought a Nissan Almera, and want to change the rather poor Radio, however unlike other cars it seems to be built into the dashboard, ie, there is a flange on the dashboard which seems to make it impossible to remove the old unit. Does anyone out there know how to whip the old one out, - does it mean having to dismantle the whole dashboard or what ?
  • Subaru Impreza III (2008 -) - 1000+km in new Impreza 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
There is a lack of interactivity between throttle and steering and you can't balance the car on the throttle, as you could with the old car. If you switch the ESP off then the car feels decidedly light at the back end and does not inspire confidence in fast curves. Brakes are much as per the current model and fine.
  • Old car paranoia 24 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Their only option with low value cars is to keep on driving them until they break. Classic car owners, in particular, are trying to get exemption or some old cars using original parts stock through necessity will never be able to sell their vehicle.

  • Free car data check 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Might be useful for checking how old your neighbours "cherished plated" Merc really is, or how many times that old dog you sold last year has been passed on. Go into "My RAC", you have to complete a short registration process (you can make up the details) and away you go.

  • Tales of repairs on old motors 26 May 2008 (Forum)
I have been prompted to post on the basis of a fascinating description given by John S on how to repair the bracket that holds the engine top stay on an old style Mini, posted in technical. His post was a form of literature that will soon be lost forever. He described a lengthy and complex repair involving relatively cheap parts that these days would not be done, the car would probably just be scrapped.
  • Jaguar Super V8 - Selling an old SORNed car 20 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Not sure if it's old or desirable enough to be classed as a classic. I'm in SE London. Any ideas?
  • Two classics 30 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Take notice * In the video that she lays a shop rag on the running board to step onto when she gets in and out of the car. Then after she is in the car, she leans all the way down to the running-board to get the rag. She is in great physical and mental shape for her age. And the car is not in bad shape either!
  • No Claim Bonus Discount Dispute. 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have had my own car insurance policy since September 2002, and until this September it was through a broker. During this time I made no claims. This year their renewal quote was not competetive so I changed companies and informed the old one I could not be renewing.
  • MOT for car with NI plate but GB registered keeper 14 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Apologies if this topic's been discussed before A colleague who lives in Belfast has a 3 year old company car with NI plates – but the registered keeper (the company) is in England. The DVLC in England is saying that he cannot drive the car without and MOT – but he is unable to book an MOT in NI as his car is not 4 years old.
  • Any Make - Small Four Door Car Recommendations 22 May 2017 (Forum)
I was asked for advice on buying a small four door car today. The last time I ran a small car was 1985 (a Mk II Escort although I still have one as a SORN’d project) so I do not really feel able to advise. The lady is recently retired and looks after her 2 year old grandson three days a week.
  • V5C reg document fraud when scrapping a car! 9 Dec 2016 (Forum)
The electronic petition 173840 now needs urgently signing for this loophole to be discussed, debated and finally closed.10,000 electronic signatures minimum are needed for discussion in parliamentary committee and more than 100,000 for the subject to be debated ... This could be your car, old banger, or loved classic that disappears!  This unhappy situation arose after a defective, largely plastic bodied car, no older than 14 years old, was stolen from the driveway of the owner and presented at a scrapyard.
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - Clutch problems thanks to car thief 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am able to start the engine and put the car into gear, but there is no bite when I try to pull away. Is this a major job? Or is it something that we can fix without too much pain and cost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The car is quite old and not worth repairing if it is going to cost a fortune Thanks in advance - FiestaRed
  • Are older cars more reliable? 21 May 2006 (Forum)
Don't do it they say, you'll regret it. Regret it?? On a car worth on average 15k???!! So here I am, putting off the purchase of a new car. I've got my old R reg golf, No air con, no ABS, no sat nav, in act not very much but the essential: a good strong engine.
