  What is the safest place to re-fuel now in the South East??? I have Shell and Esso near my home. Are these safe? BP Ultima is nowhere near my home. I am not affected till now.

  Is there a (legal?) reason why a 'VAT receipt' must be specifically asked for when paying for fuel? I need to keep them for my book-keeping, and have occasionally forgotten one. Why can't the VAT element be shown on the receipt normally issued?

  Depending on which way I'm parking (and it's not a particularly steep camber ) my fuel gauge seems to vary about by a quarter of a tank. It also takes about five minutes to level out on the flat. Is this typical of Vauxhalls or is there some kind of damper mechanism that's getting stuck?

  Bedford CF Motor home with 2.2 Diesel engine. Got a reconditioned fuel pump but cannot find any timing marks on the pump, How can I get around this problem. Any suggestions would be welcome.

  I own a factory produced bi fuel ford focus. It runs rough at low revs and after gear changes. Is this the engine management computer fighting over the petrol/lpg systems? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks 23/8/02

  I have VCDS, the VAG diagnostic software which also does OBDII on many other makes, but it will not communicate with this. I removed the fuel hoses from the fuel filter and drew fuel up with a hand primer. No problem there. I got him to crank the engine while I forced fuel on to the main injection pump and it still would not start. That makes me suspect that the main fuel pump could be faulty, or some other sensor which leads to the ECU switching the pump off.

  Afternoon all - last week i picked up a tanker driver from the grangemouth refinary where he collects fuel for shell and formally BP. I thought he would be the perfect man to talk to about different fuels and indeed he was! We spent the entire taxi journey taking about the fuels and I asked him if the truth about supermarket fuels is true, his answer was simply what do I think I'm the one doing 50k a year.

  Is it worth going to the scrap yard, trying a new filter housing (with tighter push in fuel lines) and buy some new fuel pipe and try without the none return valves? I'm really at a lose with it now.. Any help would be gratefully appreciated! Cheers

  I have had my Mazda6 2.0 diesel since late October. This week I let the fuel run lower than usual before re-filling (waiting for my fuel card but that's another story)... ... so it had got down to below a quarter of a tank with the "miles remaining" readout heading to single digits.

  Have a nissan pulsar with fuel injection. Seems when I start her in the morning and drive, it is fine. I turn it off and go do what I need to do and get back in the car, she won\'t start. Sounds like she is flooded. A friend told me to try to use a pair of vice grips to pinch the fuel line, go and start it, once she starts take the grips off.

    "Aside from the fact that petrol and diesel in the UK are subject to some of the highest levels of taxation anywhere in Europe" Misleading or what? It isn't JUST the taxation that matters, it is also the fuel staion margins. See the price of a litre of unleaded in the rest of europe!

  Fuel light came on well before the normal figure of 400 miles...according to FuelLog, the Berlingo did 33.6 mpg to the last tank!  The last fill up on the 18th worked out at 38.4mpg, looks like the winter diesel switchover has occured.
