  • VW Polo 03 1.2s - Engine warning light on for trivial problem 27 May 2010 (Forum)
How can it be right that the ECU retains the warning for a blown bulb permanently and doesn't clear it when I replace the bulb? Obviously I had to get the fault cleared as there's just the one warning light on this car, for everything from trivia to impending disaster. So a terrible waste of my precious time and hard-earned money when on a normal old-fashioned car the cost would have been....£1.
  • Mazda Mazda 3 (2004 - 2009) - 05 1.6 Road noise 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Anyone else out there find this car suffers from high road noise? Its my wifes car, and I love driving it otherwise, but I find the road noise irritatingly high at above 60ish mph on motorways etc. Also, the front suspension is a bit "clunky" on my local rough Berkshire roads at low speeds.
  • Having paint work scratches repaired 7 Dec 2009 (Forum)
So I was wondering the following: 1) do any of you recommend Chips Away or the such like? 2) If I was to use a non-Audi workshop would this invalidate my paint or bodywork warranty (car is less than 3 years old)? 3) could I get Autoglym out to reapply their polish after an independent place had done the work? thanks in advance for any tips/advice you have.
  • Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.8 PAS pump noisy? 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The car is around two weeks from the point where I can obtain a 13-month MOT. I'd rather not splash out on the car if it is possibly going to fail, but I do a few hundred miles a week so if it is likely to fail completely I'd rather make alternative arrangements now.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 03 2.0HDi Car not starting 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
When repeated later, same again, but higher revs before shut down (2 secs) Diagnostics indicated a fuel regulator problem and the high pressure fuel pump was changed (Siemens version, no pump in the tank). The contacts for the regulator on the old pump were blackened, which suggested the solenoid had overheated. The car ran for three days, then same fault reoccurred. Suggestion of dry joint in the ecu output to the regulator (pulsed earth), so ecu was changed for a refurbished unit.
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.6 tdci Total Excellium Diesel 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
In my old car I used Excellium petrol and found it was economical ,so I was pleased when my local Total garage started stocking Excellium Diesel. I topped up with approximatly 35ltrs and the early indications were that I was getting better MPG.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - Passat 2.0 20v-warranty claim advice 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Much clattering from the front of the engine and a VW specialists diagnosis of sheared viscous fan bolt/bolts resulting in the need for a new fan/coupling, new housing, bolts, pulley etc. Two things - in the BR experience is this something you might expect on a 5 year old car having covered 47K and with full service history? And has anyone experience of dealing with Car Care Plan as a warranty provider? They are prepared to pay for the fan and coupling plus the labour for this, but not the associated parts and labour resulting from the failure.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - What to follow a 2005 Focus with? 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
We're considering changing my wife's 2005 1.6 Zetec Climate 5d Hatch (petrol), shortly (next couple of months). The car will be 3 years old in Sept, and we usually keep our cars within warranty periods therefore <3years. I thought this would be easier than it's turning out to be. I liked the look and idea of a 57 Astra 1.9CDTI Design in Motorpoint, as the price was within budget (about 3-4K on the Focus).
  • Best automatic under £3.5K .... 9 Aug 2008 (Forum)
However, needs an automatic (no manual license), big enough for a family of four (with prams and such) - so golf-size car a bit tight. Any suggestions? He likes 'presitige' cars - but of course for that budget tends to mean either jolly old and/or knackered ... My thought was of course our friend the Mondeo Mk2 - I was surprised that they did a diesel auto, which can be had for about £3k.
  • Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 2005 1.2 - Help please to identify the problem 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Bought the above car from a Skoda dealership 2 weeks ago, the car is almost 3 years old and has done 17950miles. Last week when driving there was an loud grating noise that sounded like metal scraping on metal coming from behind the drivers seat, but underneath the car.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1997 TD - starting problems 20 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Any ideas? could it be the starter motor, glow plugs (only 6 months old), ignition or a relay? it has been very cold the last couple of weeks if that would make any difference. Thanks
  • Volvo V50 vs Honda CRV (New or Nearly New?) 30 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Have been lurking for a while in what is a very informative Forum. And now I am after assistance please? I currently drive a Company Car, but it looks like in January I will be changing job's and will be buying a Car. I will still be doing a bit of travelling for work, but not as much as I do now. I originally had a budget of about £15k, and initially had opted for a Volvo V50 (as new as possible).
  • Pug 307 - Starting problem 20 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My wife bought a 1 year old pug 307 and has had a number of problems. (faulty door handle and failed clutch - both fixed under warranty after having to argue with the dealers - she had done less that 200 miles before the clutch was replaced and the car has only done 13000 in total).
  • BMW 5 series 1990 E34 3 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I am currently looking for a car which I can just use at weekends (and to haul a boat with). Bearing in mind I don't drive a great deal of miles, high mileage and low miles per gallon aren't a great concern. One of things that has appeared on the radar in recent weeks is a couple of old 520's.
  • 1995 cavalier 1.7 TD Smoking out exhaust 26 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The car is 10 years old and is needing a clutch amongst other things... We just need this car running for another month or 2 before we change! Please help...
  • Time for a new battery? 16 Mar 2005 (Forum)
My Honda Civic is nine years old, and to my knowledge is still on its original battery. In recent months it has been failing to hold a charge sufficient to start the engine after the car has been left undriven for as little as 48 hours.
  • Which car? 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I'm currently looking for a new (Old!) car and need the following requirements: Diesel (I drive a fair distance to work) Cheap to run Cheap/easy to maintain Easy availability of spares Lots of space for moving junk etc Lots of space for kids Low mileage 5 doors..
  • electrical problem - Pug 405td 11 May 2004 (Forum)
came out of work last night and car (405td) wouldn\'t start, seemed like the battery was flat (6mths old) when you turn the key all the dash lights go out, had the car jump started and started to drive home, the heater fan kept coming on even though it was switched off, at the same time abs warning light would also come on, headlights would flicker, also noticed that when going over uneven roads the abs light would again come on.
  • New diesel car choice... 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I've been looking at Focus-sized diesels including a Focus TDCi, Stilo JTD, Leon TDi 110 but at the moment I've been focusing on Toledo 110 TDi SEs - i've seen 18 month old examples with about 14k for £8,500. My budget is about £8000 plus the 96 Punto in P/Ex. The car must be reasonably low insurance group, ideally not higher than grp8, to keep my insurance costs down (I have 2 yrs NCB).
