• Hard Use Electric Car Range 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
  On the way back, at night, cold, wet, I'd have had headlamps on, air con + heating, radio, phone charging,  and stop and start driving for 2.5 hours - covering just 22 miles.I really wonder how long the battery would last stop and go with all the accessories on. Everyone seems to judge range by driving non-stop around the M25 - yet how many people do that? Anyone with an electric car got practical knowledge?

• Toyota Avensis - tapping noise after oil changed 30 Nov 2020 (Forum)
  First by Toyota and then after a few years by a local garage just across the road from me.  Never had any problems with the car until this month, only new battery and brake parts such as pads, discs and pipes to the back.. Had the car serviced and I can hear a tapping rattle from the engine when it is cold. I think the garage used the wrong oil because this was not there before the service.

  I took it to SMC fords for a diagnostic check and there are no fault Codes comping back. They suggested replacing the battery which they did however less than 24 hours after they did this I get the same problems again. Recently the car has had a new clutch, new fuel injectors, new fan control module, and had the coolant system replaced on a Ford recall.

  Last June a group of scientists led by Professor Richard Herrington, the Natural History Museum’s head of earth science, warned the government that to replace all cars on British roads with EVs, UK demand for the batteries needed would require almost twice the world’s current yearly supply of cobalt, the total amount of neodymium produced globally every year, three-quarters of the world’s annual supply of lithium and at least half its copper supply.

  You have to go online and download all sorts of stuff even just to playback on your laptop. Has been temperamental and now the residual battery does not hold charge so when detached it is dead. I am fed up and simply and want to ditch it and replace it. This presents two problems. Firstly what to change it for? Then secondly i suppose the mounting will be exclusive and therefore useless for a replacement.

  Two specific cars have caught my eye - the Mitsubishi i-MIEV/Peugeot Ion/Citroen C-Zero and the Vauxhall Ampera/Chevrolet Volt - I'd welcome opinions on these bearing in mind they're 8 years old and out of warranty. I also considered the Renault Zoe but at this age, they all need a leased battery which puts the cost up way too high.
• Mercedes C350 Cdi Sport Auto - C350 Diesel cuts out at 70mph and engine will not 2 Aug 2019 (Forum)
  The ignition lights were bright but turning the key did nothing. No dimming of the lights to indicate low battery and no cranking of the engine. I had to have the car recovered and taken to my local MB garage. After 3 days they still can't identify a fault. The said the starter motor was not able to spin fast enough, but I was sceptical and sure enough replacing it didn't resolve anything.

  I understand the alternator(-) is connected via the physical bolt connection to the engine and the alternators (+ to battery) is via the large nut/bolt under the plug connection on the alternator ref (B+). I need to know what other electrical connections need to be connected to this alternator to make it work and produce sufficient charging current.

    Prius has shut down won't start car has done 90000 miles  put techstream  on DTC codes  POAOf engine won't start  . clean throttle body  cleaned Mac air sensor fuel  was at one bar put more fuel in now showing 4 bars but still will not start Charged12v battery ready sign comes on for about 5 seconds thenbgoes off ,  a sound comes on for about 3 seconds then shuts off may be electrics motor not sure  Lifted car up from the drivers took wheel off theirs a round wheel I turned that wheel assuming it connects to the crankshaft , the wheel turned so I don't believe engine has seized  Tried clearing faults check hybrids sign comes back on after a few seconds  I wondered if a faulty cam sensor could shut engine off  Any advice would be appreciated

  Merkel's transport minister, Andreas Scheuer, has asked automakers to tell him how they plan to complete cheaper  software upgrades   on 5.3 million diesel vehicles to reduce emissions by the end of the year. Merkel also called for Europe to support the development of battery and software technologies needed if electric vehicles become the cars of the future, since otherwise Europe risks losing its manufacturing abilities to Asia and North America.
• Croatia border crossing woes 31 Jul 2017 (Forum)
  Lots of German, Italian and French tourists trying to get into Montenegro many with young children and I reckon that most were facing at least a 6 hour wait, including tour buses. Why do they put themselves through this? Huge wear and tear to clutches, gearboxes and batteries never mind the massive emissions from thousands of vehicles with idling engines in 33 degrees of searing heat. Can't understand why a country delays your departure from its frontiere. If this is what a 'hard border' looks like when the UK leaves the EU then I don't know what it will mean to take a car into mainland Europe.

   We have payed a deposit but I hav emajor issues with signing the finance agrement stomorrow.  The car is not current spec, it will require fluid changes, battery check/ replacment, brakes?, paint checks......  
• Nissan Almera - Key programming doesn't work 20 May 2015 (Forum)
  I have a Nissan almera 55 reg, with i believe the N16 key fob. It started giving me problems unlocking the car remotely, so i changed the battery and went through the re-programming of the key fob. This is what happened. 1. turn on and off ignition 6 times in less than 10 seconds... Done 2. hazard lights will flash twice to show in programming mode...

  I know several parameters have to be met before it will work but I haven't identified any set of circumstances which might affect it although it seems to activate more promptly after it's been parked up for a short time after being driven for only a few miles. The dealership agree there's a problem and eventually fitted a new battery under warranty which seemed to improve the situation marginally but now it's as bad as ever it was.

  is the old switch easy to remove? also my remote locking is temperamental. Works on the fob when it wants, the batteries in both fobs are new. I have tried syncing doing the button/key in door method. No difference. Theres a red and green light on each door. Surely both these receivers can't have failed? any ideas?

  The brake light works OK. All of the units have been e marked. I have tried separate 12V supply direct from battery for tail light but as soon as other stop/tail bulb inserted the tail light darkens but the number plate light stays on. Unit has 3 wires connected, stop(Red). tail/numberplate(Yellow). and earth(Black).
• Ford Fiesta Ghia auoto 2003 - start fault 29 Jul 2014 (Forum)
  It normally starts then, though sometimes not. All electrics are ok, lights, horn, wipers etc. We have a new battery fitted too. The garage cleared all of the codes from the system (£44) but that made no difference (they said that it was worth a shot). Does anyone have any experience of this problem at all that could offer some assistance please?

  I've tried disconnecting the hazard switch, tried removing each fuse in turn, given all the doors a good slam, tried the interior alarm override switch, new batteries in the remotes, still nothing. Worse still it only started playing up when a potential buyer for it arrived at the house. Heard it might be a central locking controller that might be damp or something similar.
• vw caddy tdi 104 - vw caddy stalling 22 Jun 2014 (Forum)
   What has been happening is, whenever I am creeping in traffic,parking or pulling up to a junction, it is stalling (red battery light on dash), it starts up again no problem everytime but is very annoying.  I spoke to a techician guy who told me it sounds like a crankshaft sensor but said it needs to get worse so the engine management light comes on then it will show him the fault.
