Thank you VW, thank you so much, 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Well Tourvan has come up with a new one from its box of tricks, foibles, faults and undesirable behaviour. Its decided it will be a laugh to leave the brake lights on all night. The battery is flat. Its not going anywhere. The VW ambulance is on its way. NOw for the very clever part. Someone knocked on my door on saturday night about midenight to say my lights were on. Yup it was the brake lights, so I kicked the brake pedal and off they went. -
Honda Accord Drive belt squeal from cold 23 Oct 2006 (Forum)
It happens for the first 10 minutes from cold It only happens at tickover or when i pull away at junctions It is particularly bad on damp mornings I have replaced the following items in an attempt to cure this: Honda drive belts (a/c and Pas) Air con compressor Alternator Also it has recently had both timing and balancer belt and a Honda battery. The belt tension has been checked 3 times (independant garage-trusted and experienced) Any ideas folks before i go bankrupt!!! Last thing to change is the crankshaft pulley next week Both belts on removing them had lumps of hard plastic in the grooves-burnt belt?? -
Just bought Pug 106 1.5D 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Also when turning right car makes a noise which seems to be coming from the o/s front tyre so it could be CV joint? Is it costly? Every now and then battery light in the dashboard comes on and then just switched itself off after driving for few minutes. -
SAAB 9-3 (2002 - 2007) - Spill back pipes. 9 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, Please forgive my ignorance, but had my 2001 (60K miles) 9.3 TiD serviced the other day at a Saab Specialist (who I trust)and he advised that I should probably consider having the 'spill back pipes'changed at the next service. It had been a bit slow to start during the recent cold weather and he recommended a change of battery (which I did). It's now super, duper, smashing ! Now never having heard of these until the above, could more knowledgeable backroom aficianados please advise: What do they do/their function ? Is it wise to have them changed periodically ? -
Illegal, daft, both or neither? 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
As I got closer I realised it was one of those invalid/shopping things driven by old bloke at about 5-10 mph. It was one of those little things with 6in grey tyres, maroon "bodywork" covering the batteries etc and steered with handlebars with a shopping basket on the front- the sort of thing you see IN Sainbury's. Is it illegal? Is it just a silly thing to do (no pavements or cycle tracks mind). Should I have rung the police? -
Squealing and revs on T4 1.9TD 24 Dec 2005 (Forum)
As the squaling starts to lessen the rev counter needle flickers a bit, and when the noise stops altogether the needle then rises to its normal posistion. The battery light didn't come on but maybe it had enough 'oomph' to prevent this. -
vx omega cd code 13 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Firstly thanks to you all for some great info and feedback. I have a 1999 omega 2.5 v6 cdx estate. Recently I had to change the battery and once i had coded the radio I found that I couldnt code the cd changer.I have a Philips CCRT 700 with built in mobile phone. I followed the handbook instructions,ie switch on ign, hold cd button, switch on radio, wait 3-5 seconds, then enter the code. -
Peugeot 406 aircon 7 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Someone said they'd bypassed the system and found that the compressor worked directly connected to the battery, which indicates other faulty components. Problem is, where are all of these components so I can check them. Or any other suggestions or very common faults on this model? -
Computer Related Questions - Volume 61 21 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Obviously I've been having a play and once I'd managed to fully drain the battery, I decided to read the manuals. I've noticed that Active Sync is on the cd but am curious as to what this is used for. I have a number of CDs including maps of Iberia which could come in handy so I'm guessing Active-Sync would be used solely to put them on the SD Card. -
Mondeo electrics 30 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Next thing, couldn't undo boot, lock rear doors. Remote key not working, which I thought was the battery. Found I had no indicators, or rear wipers. Everything else was OK. Assumed it was simply a fuse, so called in the Ford dealers to ask which it could be, and saw how many there are. I examined all the likely culprits but everything looked OK. -
Focus Air-Con Stopped Working 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Anyone any idea what could be wrong, or more importantly, how much it is likely to cost to fix? This year it is due for a major service, a new battery, probably a new rear silencer (it's looking somewhat rusty), so I'm wondering whether to bother and just trade it in for a new one. -
Fiesta 1.8 Diesel (Bad Starting) 28 Dec 2004 (Forum)
A local garage refurbished the head and refitted (££££), however it is now very difficult to start, especially when cold. The glow plugs have been changed, and I have fitted a new battery. The garage tested the compression, and told me it was 'ok, but not brilliant'. 'Each cylinder should be over 400, but yours is 350 - 400'' whatever that means. Apart from the general question of what can I do with the car? -
Drunk in charge of a motor vehicle 19 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Of course, if we don't have our car keys, we can sleep in peace on the public road. What if, prior to going to the pub, we have disconnected the battery, so that the car will not start. What if we hide our key carefully prior to going to the pub; take only the remote control blipper; and on returning to the car 'have no key - think we've lost it.' -
Peugeot 406 climate control fault 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
From what he's said, I don't think the term "control panel" means the facia on the dash, but some hidden control unit under the bonnet or behind the dash - maybe this is the same as the control unit mentioned above? 3) The compressor works when connected directly to the battery. Apparently there is sufficient gas that the system doesn't need recharged. Sorr I can't give any more details - not my car! andymc -
Cavalier Diesel wont start 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have spent 2 weekends on it but cant get it started after it stalled while driving. Have checked all fuses, relays, wires, timing belt, also connected a direct cable from battery + term to idle stop solenoid (fuel cut-off) it clicked every time I touched the terminal on the solenoid. I also disconnected 1 of the fuel pipe unions from the injector and turned the engine over, no fuel came through. -
Unregistered fork lift trucks 15 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The road is public - lots of factories and offices around. The fork lift was one of those gas powered jobbies but they also have some battery powered ones too. I am concerned that if these are not registered and taxed they won't be insured either. What would happen if there was an accident? Can I report them to someoen? -
I have a question. Volume 10 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I don't really want to have to buy a new phone and am a bit annoyed since i payed 200 quid for it about 1 and half years ago. Could it be the battery playing up??? Is it worth having it repaired? Any advice that will save me money will be much appreciated! -
Peugeot 306 XRDT Queries 14 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I think it's got remote, central locking, alarm and immobiliser but the plip doesn't work remotely (the central locking works but I have to do it manually). I've just put new batteries in the plip and the little red light flashes briefly so that seems to be ok. I've just been reading how to programme plips so will give it a go tonight. Why would I have to re-programme a plip anyway ? -
Annoying car alarm - New Police Powers? 7 Sep 2003 (Forum)
If not, does anyone know how you can open the bonnet of an L reg metro without causing any criminal damage to disconnect the battery? H -
New Micra shock breakdown! 27 May 2003 (Forum)
I'm pleased I bought a Ford now, so much more reliable :-) But I suppose in Nissan's defence, the RAC man said that this was the first time he had a new Micra go kaput all together, the only other one he attended was a battery problem... Oh, and to give the RAC their due, they were there within 30 minutes... Blue
