Vauxhall Tigra (1994 - 2000) - 98 1.4 Engine Problem 15 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The problem I am having is in three parts, and I am sorry if this is a bit long winded, 1. If I go out to my car in the morning it will start no bother, after running for any length of time if I stop the car and try to restart it say within half an hour or so it will not start. The engine turns over ok but does not catch. If I put my accelerator hard to the floor it will usually start, cough and splutter for a few secs than run ok. -

Hit & Run going to Court 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Quick thinking Y also claimed injury once the police arrived. X questioned an hour later by police. Accused of drink driving, hit and run, failing to report an accident. Cleared of the drink driving down the station. X answered bail today. Told that there will be a preliminary hearing at a magistrate's court. What does that involve? -
Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - '97 Ford Ka oil consumption/tappetiness/suspension 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Is roughly a litre of oil consumption during this period acceptable/average for the age and mileage? I do mainly short runs to and from work (steep hill and in this weather I aint walking!) and go for a long fast run about once a week to get out and give it a good run. -It's a bit tappety; this quietens down to a quiet knocking once the engine's warm and it only really makes a racket under hard acceleration. -
Cumbria to Kent, not a usual BR thread 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
In over 750 miles of motoring on the above roads, I came across no congestion, no accidents, no snarlup, no road rage, no traffic jams, in fact nothing at all to impede my progress - the only things that reduced my average speed was the extensive roadworks on the London end of the M2 (IIRC) where the 'average speed cameras' were out in force. I wasn't on a high speed run, nor an economy run and for the vast majority of the trip I had the cruise control set on a speed that was 'appropriate to prevailing the traffic conditions and allowing for steady progress' (some people may interpret this as being 80-85 mph), it was simply a long distance trip where the roads/traffic on the roads make it extremely pleasant. -
Mondeo Diesel run dry 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
We noticed some disel leaking from the 2nd cylinder plug (probably from the fuel line which feeds to this plug, none of the others were leaking the fuel line leading to/from this plug was also saturated with fuel - but none of the other fuel lines between plugs were wet with fuel. the fuel line seemed to go from one plug to the next, and onto the next running between plugs, if you are familiar you'll know what I'm talking about, I have never looked at a diesel engine before so this was all new to me. It failed to start or show any life just turned over. we gave up deciding it was probably air locked. -
Mondeo TD (Endura DE) oil recommendation 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I always change the oil and filter at 6k instead of the 10k Ford intervals if this is relevant. As I said, the car runs fine on 10W/40 but I don't want to run the risk of doing any damage longer term. I can get the Formula E stuff easily (use it in the Fiesta), so it makes no odds either way from a convenience/cost point of view. -
Nisssan Micra (K10) carburettor problems 27 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Basicly for the last month or two, the car has had trouble keeping an idle speed, when stopping at junctions the engine stalls, also when, for example, changing down a gear and accelerating onto a roundabout, it also temporarly tries to stall but then picks back up. The engine was also running a little rich shortly before this problem manifested its self. While playing with the engine at the weekend we managed to get the car running by disconnecting the auto choke, but this however, is far from a suitable solution since the engine runs very very rich and chokes itself on fuel. -
Sheared tube but what is it? Astra 1.7TD 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Should I worry about driving with it in this state? It must be remembered here that I don't know when this happened and the car is running fine. The haynes manual mentions a tube to a vacuum switch, but doesn't say what this switch is for or where to find it - could that be this tube? My car often continues to run after I switch off the ignition. -

Citroen XM advice 18 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Please can I have any advice that anyone with experience of these beasts can throw at me. Running costs, tricks to longevity, problems experienced, joys of driving etc! I am looking to buy one relatively cheaply in the coming months. It is likely to be a Mk 1 and may even come from a family run franchise dealer I know (in that case with a brief warranty chucked in at this price). -
Pierburg carb probs 4 Jul 2003 (Forum)
In other words it does not seem to idle when cold at any revs higher then 1000 rpm. Despite this, the car runs perfectly hot and cold!!(Very smooth now when cold)! Is this the way the car should have run all along. I mean, I know its summer and it is warmer, but before I changed the waxstat, when I first started the car it would rev at 2000 rpm, and then slow to 1000 rpm. -
Traffic Czar (Tsar?) 27 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Right turns banned. Traffic now finds alternate, less appropriate ways. Residents complain of rat running. Council considers speed bumps traffic calming what have you. Residents now moan about speed bumps. Lights replaced by roundabout at huge expense. Residents on original road now complain about huge increase of traffic that is no longer rat running. -
Maintenance 309 (short run) 20 May 2002 (Forum)
Involves a mix of short and slightly longer journeys, but the engine doesn't cool down much except near the end of the night when business is quiet and I go on few deliveries. BY THE WAY I leave the engine running whilst delivering, say 2 minutes per delivery. -Does this count as harsh use then? Should I change the oil at 3 or 4000 miles rather than 6000? ALSO (sorry to go on) - I go to university in september. -

Peugeot 308 - Cooling fan cuts in/out constantly 29 Dec 2024 (Forum)
As soon as I start the car up, the cooling fan will cut in for a few seconds, go off for a few seconds, and repeat this the entire time the engine is running, regardless of engine temperature. The fan cuts in and out the entire time the engine is running. Also, about 1 in 5 times I switch off the engine, the cooling fan will start up and won't stop. -

Peugeot 3008 - Honda Jazz - i40 - Sell or stick for motorway commuter! 1 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Current cars are both petrol: Car 1 - Peugeot 3008 - 49K miles, 20K a year - bought for £20K in 2021, valued at £14K Car 2 - Honda Jazz - 28K miles, 5K a year - bought for £9K in 2021, valued at £9K No point selling car 1 due to depreciation but thinking of selling Jazz for an i40 (diesel) with 60K miles for £11K and use Peugeot as run around to extend its life. Basically trying to think of a way to save money in long run but for the life of me can't come to a conclusion on to whether to stick with driving 3008 for work on motorway until it dies or sell wife's Jazz, give her the 3008 and buy an i40.
