  • Vauxhall Vectra B 1.9cdti 2007 - Intermittent starting - alternator? 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I understand that these alternators are ECU controlled, similar to Ford Focus and Mondeo. There seems to be information around for the Fords but not much for Vauxhalls. Can anyone point me in the right direction for more information? Finally is there any evidence of common failures on these cards i.e. alternator / wiring / ecu?
  • Chrysler Voyager V6 1998 - Misfire 10 Apr 2010 (Forum)
The fuel consumption with the misfire is half of when running normally. The garage have no idea, but one theory that I have is that the ecu (powertrain) and the ecu for the transmission, both sets of wires areopen to water/moisture. Just for info, the pther day in the warm sunshine the car started with the misfire from cold but very quickly cleared.
  • Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - 05 1.9 TDi Engine Management Light problem. 24 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The effect seems to be that it shuts off the turbo, reducing power and acceleration.a friend has read the cars ecu when the light is on,he used a bosch ecu reader. two faults are shown.4C69,a solenoid valve and 462D a booster valve.Unfortunately his system does not have information on how to correct the faults. However he can clear the faults which stay off for a short while.Has anyone any idea how to permanently sort these faults.any help would be appreciated. tony
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 04 1.6 Loss of power when travelling at ~70mph 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I'm assuming the car is going into some type of 'limp home mode' because if I then keep the revs below 3000 rpm you can't tell there is a problem (although the dashboard icon stays lit up) When I then stop and then restart the engine, the fault icon has reset itself. Any ideas as to what is causing the fault and also will the fault be recorded in the ECU if the dashboard icon is no longer lit. i don't really want to take it to a garage and be charged for them to interrogate the ECU if nothing is going to show up as a fault Thanks

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - General question re: Injector Coding? 2 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Do they remove the injectors and test them to assess the flow rate accurately? Using the info gained to recalibrate the ecu? Or am I totally mis-understanding?
  • Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - Water damaged ECU - Is there a reasonable fix ? 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Our 53 Megane decided to die on us the other night. The dashboard told us it was an electrical fault and we noticed that the immobiliser wasn't going off...
  • Peugeot 306 1.6 temperature sensors 18 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I ask because the petrol consumption seems to have increased noticably over the last couple of weeks and I know these can be the cause (because the ECU thinks the enginge is cold and overfuels it all the time). There is also a THIRD sensor (behind the water pump) but it remember it is a French car! Any links to a good Peugeot technical website will be welcomed also.
  • £700 to find a fault 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
"Leave it with us" was the reply. They subsequently and supposedly took 15 hours to find the fault as a defective ECU. In jump starting the auto box Mazda it damaged said ECU. The dealer 'genorously' reduced the cost of FINDING the fault to £700. They then quoted a further £2000 to fix it. Horrified, he did a bit of digging and has found this to be a common problem when trying to jump start an auto box Mazda.
  • Ford focus engine warning light 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The car ran fine for a while but now the engine warning light is coming on again. He has taken it to the ford dealership who hooked it up to the ECU analyzer and told him the catalytic converter needed replacing, however, it passed its MOT with flying colours on the emissions test 2 weeks ago. Is there any way that the catalytic converter could actually have degraded so badly in two weeks or is it more likely that there is an issue with water/moisture in some sensor connector giving a false result to the ECU, if so which sensor is the likely culprit?
  • Renault Clio 1.4RT 98> 25 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Peeps, been having intermittant problem for far too long now, i'll explain: My clio 1.4RT runs fine, starts fine, all ECU sensors fine. However if you go out for a run and the engine gets hot, then you sit on low idle for a while (for example sitting in a queue for a car park, far to often where I live) the ECU "dumps" its throttle setting and starts to Idle at 1400rpm.
  • Superchip's Bluefin 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone had any experience of the Superchip Bluefin, this is a small device similar to the diagnostic kits that plug into your ECU and give you a view of whatever error it might have. The difference in that case is that (as well as doing the above), it will also change the settings on your ECU to increase performance etc (A DIY chip upgrade).
  • Alfa 156 Selespeed Gearloss 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
The loss of gears occurs at any time, warm or cold, stationary, pulling away or cruising I calculate the dealer (under warranty) has received the car around 15 times - 6 of which were tow ins. I have had a new gearbox, lower ECU, higher ECU, gear box oil pump, numerous diagnostics. Apart from training the children to operate the hazard warning lights has anybody had and cured a similar problem. P.S. Am I the only one having major problems with "service" at Reg Vardy's - and can anyone explain to them what a courtesy cars is ??
