  • Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - New or Used? 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I probably will pay cash for either, although the new model has the potential for the 0% deal from Honda over 2 years, 10K down and then remainder over 2 years. So the option appears to be new for 17.5K or a 12 month old used with 10K on the clock for... well, what should my target price be for this car? Thanks, T.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.25 Rear sill / sub frame corrosion repair 12 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It passed the MOT yesterday with no problems, other than an "advisory" on both rear sill /subframes mounts. My mechanic advised that they are partially corroded (well it's an 11 year old car!) and whilst not an immediate problem, he said "Don't be surprised if you get told to weld them at the next MOT" I'm thinking I'll get them done now, but my question is... How much should I reasonably be expecting to pay for this work?...
  • Number plate mystery 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
If you're running a huge criminal scam, why pick a number which is going to alert every patrol car and anpr camera in the country ? Ted
  • How well should paint match after a repair? 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Sounds like a daft question but how well should I expect the paint to match in these days? What's the experience out there? The original is a metallic gunmetal grey colour on a 2 year old car. To my eye the hatch and bumper are now just very, very slightly lighter and more silver. I don't think most people would notice but I can especially now I'm aware of it. So was wondering if that's about par for the course?
  • What value a "life" on my protected NCB? 11 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Came back to the car the other day to find some so-and-so had left a large dent in the door. Have been told it needs a new skin and quoted £650 for the repair. With a £150 excess I would be claiming £500 from my insurer but losing a "life" on my protected NCB.
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - Petrol V Diesel 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone, First of all best of seasons greetings, been looking at Grand Scenic from a well known car supermarket, year old petrol dynamic 7 seater for £7700, low mileage. Been reading the forum on the diesel French engines, and basically been put off any modern common rail engine, and poor dealer knowledge on these if they go wrong.
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 00 1.8 key fob problem 27 Dec 2008 (Forum)
We only have one key for our passat, which fits the ignition and the passanger door, we unlock that and reach across to open the other doors(wife not impressed and 2 kids out of sight) The fob would not unlock the car about 6mths ago, so i replaced the batts and it still would not work as i could not reprograme it via the drivers door, then it started working again, until recently, now deceased-is there any way of checking if the fob is working or should i replace 6 month old batts and try again?
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.3 being a little odd 17 Dec 2008 (Forum)
hello all, well i managed (if anyone remembers my old thread) to get my heating fixed, which i managed to do half myself :D car has yet another niggle. so im driving along 30mph 4th gear and then suddenly goes funny (not hugely) its a bit like its reving and then letting up and then reving again.
  • SEAT Ibiza III (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.2 VAG 1.2 3cyl - Recurring coil pack failure 15 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Surprisingly, this time SEAT Assist (actually the AA) replaced the coil pack at the roadside and didn't charge for it, even though the car is 4yrs old - on previous occasions they've put a spare in and then made her drive to a SEAT dealership to have it changed under warranty. Is coil pack failure still an issue with VAG? I know it was huge years ago, but surely they should have it sorted by now?
  • Secondhand bikes - why so expensive? 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
When I had a mid-life crisis to consider obtaining a bike licence, I was struck by how expensive even quite old models were. Consider, for example, the following comparison: http://tinyurl.com/5dl95u http://tinyurl.com/5bwzpo Whilst I accept bikes have an outright performance advantage, they do this mainly because they weigh a darned sight less than a car.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8tdci starting problems 14 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The only way to start it is to hold your foot fully down on the accelerator and spin the starter motor over for a long time until it starts - it's like trying to start a 40 year old diesel engine! The car has only done about 30000 miles. Glow plugs have been replaced and also cam position sensor and leads without result. It has been put on one of these hand held computer diagnostics and no problem shows up.
  • Another what banger :-) 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I know, moon on a stick but it is always worth asking if anyone knows of anything suitable! I am assuming old slab sided volvo estates are big enough. Is the primera estate big enough as that would be our first choice?
  • Does running your tank on empty cause problems ? 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
These days I run from full to dregs to spare the pain of filling up. In 28 years of driving in 25 different cars I've never had a problem with dirt in fuel so is it time to consign this piece of "wisdom" to the bin ?
  • Subaru Legacy and Outback Diesel (2008 - 2009) - Is a good engine or not ?! -possible purchase. 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
You need to be in first until the whole engine has revved itself clean off its mountings, and even then when you go for second it judders and shivers in protest. " However: Autocar, Autoexpress, and What Car reckon it's brilliant!! Anybody driven it and confirm either way?
  • Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 07 1.4 Window Rubbers 23 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My wifes Jazz is just over 12 months old. Since new, she has had to wipe any moisture off the outside of the door windows. Opening & closing the widows does not remove any rain or dew from glass. With the drivers window half open, I can see a gap between the glass & the window rubber.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2001 2.0T PAS fluid requirements 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Which of course is marketing spiel rather than any technical requirement. What spec is needed for the car, and is this Ford stuff OK to use? I always thought PAS fluid and ATF were all the same. Cheers DP
  • Turtle wax colourmagic / Tcut colourfast polish 20 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Has anyone used these products as I am thinking of doing so as I have(like most owners) acquired some minor scratches and scuffs on my year old (metallic silver) car. Some of these are self inflicted by too rigourous cleaning with the wrong cloth trying to remove bird lime and tar marks etc. Are these polishes the ones that take of a layer of paint or does the colour just fill in the scratches so you have to regularly reapply.
  • Simplest to service new small petrol engine? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
