00 1.6 16v - Has the 'pencil' coil gone again ? - wishicouldbuyanewcar
hi folks new to this site can anyone help me here i replaced a pencil coil in engine twice now all seemed fine other day i topped up with oil(which i have to day every 2 month is this unusual?)and then it felt like another coil had gone. i have pulled all the wires off 1 by 1 and they seem ok although some seem better than others(the old ones seem best)has anyone idea is the problem still the coils? problem is that the car seems to think its a kangaroo

The coils are series-wired in pairs; unplugging any one cuts off two, so it can be difficult to discern which cylinder isn't firing. Unplugging injectors, or using a thermo-laser on the exhaust ports is more accurate.

What year? Coils are a favourite on these; but they can also suffer from other faults too.

cheers mate didnt know that. prety sure it is the new coil i fitted, are they paired in order ie1234. its the 2000 model havent had any other problrms apart from a cracked manafold which is now welded. i also snapped my timing belt about 4 month ago and got that fixed. now thinking of selleing car soon especially as these coils seem to go reguarly

They're paired 1 and 4; 2 and 3 - and yes; they do go regularly.
