Volvo V40 - "Super bright" halogen headlights 8 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The wife has has been complaining the ours barely appear to be on at all in comparison to a lot of cars these days. I agree with her. Ours are like an old torch with weak batteries in comparison with other cars. Can't see much at all on unlit roads without using the main beams. (The car passed its MOT last month and and the weight vs headlight height switch is set correctly) However I too get irritated by oncoming cars that seem to have ridiculously bright lights, so my question is, am I about to join the annoying people if I buy some?... -

Which smart phone? 28 Aug 2012 (Forum)
With RIM possibly going down the tubes and a need at some point in the future to replace my 9700, what are my alternatives? I know the default is the iPhone, but the poor battery life and general aversion to Apple products puts me off. They just seem to make life unnecessarily complicated. Can't decide if I like touch screen phones; everyone in my family who had one, has gone back to button phones. -
Vauxhall Astra MK4 2001 1.8L - Urgent! Help Needed With Engine Management Light 2 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Once I had restarted the car, I realised the engine management light was on, and then the traction control light came on a short while afterward. Since this has happened, I disconnected the battery for a few minutes to reset the cars computer, seeing as though the erratic idleing had stopped, to see if that fixed the problem. The traction control light has gone off, but the engine management light has stayed on. -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 02 1.0l Won't start 16 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I'm having nothing but problems with my wife's Corsa C. It's the 1.0l 12v. I drained the battery listening to the radio when doing work for it's recent MOT. I recharged and it ran lumpy, mis-fired at low revs and lacked power. Two days later I went to start it in the morning and it wouldn't even fire. -
x18xe1 2000 vauxhall astra 1.8 - petrol filling up cylinders and inlet 28 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I'm currently having problems with my 1.8 astra, I recently got the engine replaced as piston failure occurred when driving down the motorway due to low oil, the mechanic said now after the new engine in when He reconnects the battery leads without the ignition on the fuel injectors are staying open and filling the cylinders and inlet manifold full of fuel. The mechanic said it was a ECM so that was another 150pound, So I purchased a 2nd hand brain off him with chip and reader and the mechanic replaced it with NO CHANGE! -
vw passat 2.0tfsi - Urgent help needed - car revs are random!!! 12 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I tried again, turned the engine on and it was going up and down - then again, started going up by its self. I've tried disconnecting the battery, i.e. partially resetting the ecu but with no joy. I am really worried to drive the car to work tomorrow so any of you late sleepers who can reply i would really appreciate any help. Many thanks. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 99 2.0 intermitant fuel pump 9 Nov 2011 (Forum)
The fault turned out to be a bad connection in the multi plug connector, this lies directly behind the battery just to the left of the ecu. There is also another multi plug just below this one, I also cleaned the connectors in this as well. I used the wife's emery board as both connectors have male pins as opposed to male female, bit of a strange set up but there you go. -

Early 2003 Fiat Ducato 2.3JTD - Emission Control Warning light 12 May 2011 (Forum)
I own a 2003 Fiat Ducato based motorhome with a 2.3JTD engine (not the new style). A couple of months ago the engine battery failed and the van needed the AA to jump start it. On the next trip away the Engine Emission Control Warning light would come on when the engine is under heavy load (ie trying to maintain speed when going up a steep hill). -
Citroen Xsara - Odd electrical issue on a Citroen Xsara 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I drove straight to the garage I normally use and let the car with them. All he could spot was a loose connection to the battery which he tightened and all was well. This was 3 weeks ago and not another occorance of the proble until last night when it happened again. Leaving the car for 10 minutes and trying again the warning lights came on within a matter of minutes. -
Ford Mondeo III 1.8LX - Mondeo engine dies whenever I try to drive away 28 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It was left sitting for around 4-5 months. It's a 2000 Mk3 1.8LX that's done about 100k miles. The battery was completely flat but the engine jump started quite easily. It seems to run fine, for a good 15mins or so at the most while not moving and the car can be crept forwards and backwards very slowly, but as soon as you try to drive it away there is a faint click and the engine dies. -
Peugeot 306 - Help with poor fuel economy on 306 hdi 16 Mar 2011 (Forum)
took my car in for a diagnostic and had a new battery, MAF sensor and fuel pressure regulator. The car feels better than ever to drive, nice and smooth and feel like some of the power is back. However, i usually got around 600-650 from a tank so I averaged 45mpg. -

I have replaced the valve and still the same. Now they are saying its the vacum, two little black boxes near the battery. A thin pipe leads to the ERG valve. Has anyone any advise on how i could stop this happening ? -
Chrysler Voyager SD 2.4 - car bloked due to alarm set 30 Jan 2011 (Forum)
If I try again after a while, sometimes one or two days it responding just to show me uo the yellow light again, after it, again, the car in not reponding when I try to run it again (the key is an original one), we also tried to disconnect and connect the battery. An specialist checked all fuses, at the dashboard and other parts mentioned at backroom. Hi I'm new to this and as my names suggests a bit of a car biff, but not totally. I have a 02 plate 307 2.0l HDI. I've just had the alternator belt and battery replaced and a subsequent software reset aswell at a Peugeot dealer. Car has been fine since Monday when I got it back. Drove to the shop today and it was fine. Got in the car to come home, when the car turns over, it feels like the car is rattling and that the engine missing a beat, when I drive it there seems to be no power when I change gear either just driving along, go to turn in a junction there is no power when I press down on the accelerator. -
Peugeot HDi 02 cold start problems 5 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I've noticed on the dash thermo that if the temp outside is above 11deg cent it starts and any lower it needs a squirt of easy start while someone cranks the engine. (AA man thought it was because the battery wasn't properly charged and introduced me to, "easy start" spray. A squirt of that in the air intake as i started the car and the engine came alive. But ever since the problem has not gone, i need to constantly use easy start!) -
Vauxhall Vectra B 1.9cdti 2007 - Intermittent starting - alternator? 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Occasionally gets slow starter motor operation. Once failed to start due to flat battery - 7V according to RAC technician. This was 30 minutes after a 5 mile journey. Started OK with jump leads; RAC said alternator was charging OK. My dad did a quick test : 12.5V engine off, 13.6V engine running and no electrical load, 13.4V engine running with lights and heaters on.
