  • Citroen Xsara - Odd electrical issue on a Citroen Xsara 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I drove straight to the garage I normally use and let the car with them. All he could spot was a loose connection to the battery which he tightened and all was well. This was 3 weeks ago and not another occorance of the proble until last night when it happened again. Leaving the car for 10 minutes and trying again the warning lights came on within a matter of minutes.
  • Ford Mondeo III 1.8LX - Mondeo engine dies whenever I try to drive away 28 Mar 2011 (Forum)
It was left sitting for around 4-5 months. It's a 2000 Mk3 1.8LX that's done about 100k miles. The battery was completely flat but the engine jump started quite easily. It seems to run fine, for a good 15mins or so at the most while not moving and the car can be crept forwards and backwards very slowly, but as soon as you try to drive it away there is a faint click and the engine dies.
  • Peugeot 306 - Help with poor fuel economy on 306 hdi 16 Mar 2011 (Forum)
took my car in for a diagnostic and had a new battery, MAF sensor and fuel pressure regulator. The car feels better than ever to drive, nice and smooth and feel like some of the power is back. However, i usually got around 600-650 from a tank so I averaged 45mpg.

  • Peugeot 307 2.0 HDI - Loss of power, no real acceleration 24 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Hi I'm new to this and as my names suggests a bit of a car biff, but not totally.  I have a 02 plate 307 2.0l HDI.  I've just had the alternator belt and battery replaced and a subsequent software reset aswell at a Peugeot dealer.  Car has been fine since Monday when I got it back.  Drove to the shop today and it was fine.  Got in the car to come home, when the car turns over, it feels like the car is rattling and that the engine missing a beat, when I drive it there seems to be no power when I change gear either just driving along, go to turn in a junction there is no power when I press down on the accelerator.
  • Peugeot HDi 02 cold start problems 5 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I've noticed on the dash thermo that if the temp outside is above 11deg cent it starts and any lower it needs a squirt of easy start while someone cranks the engine. (AA man thought it was because the battery wasn't properly charged and introduced me to, "easy start" spray. A squirt of that in the air intake as i started the car and the engine came alive. But ever since the problem has not gone, i need to constantly use easy start!)
  • Vauxhall Vectra B 1.9cdti 2007 - Intermittent starting - alternator? 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Occasionally gets slow starter motor operation. Once failed to start due to flat battery - 7V according to RAC technician. This was 30 minutes after a 5 mile journey. Started OK with jump leads; RAC said alternator was charging OK. My dad did a quick test : 12.5V engine off, 13.6V engine running and no electrical load, 13.4V engine running with lights and heaters on.
  • Ford Mondeo - HELP - central locking on my Mondeo 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
When you try and lock it remotely it does make a slight whirring noise like its trying to do something.  There is a new battery in the key.  Does anyone have any idea what's the matter.  As I am a complete novice - is it something we can easily fix or is it something that is going to cost a small fortune to get right.
  • Mondeo 2006, Duratec Engine, 2.0 Liter Petrol - Engine Cutting Out / Stuttering Intermittently 10 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Sometimes it would stutter all of a sudden, the rev needle would go up and down and sometimes the battery light would come as if the car has lost power then it would go again, if i am on the highway the problem is much less noticeable because I think the car catches up again because of the momentum, this has been happening since the past 4 months, i took it to ford and nothing came up on the computer check.

  • Renault Clio II - Starting problem 1 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The car is not often used has not been started in at least 4 months. It's been garaged with the doors unlocked. Battery was fully charged before attempting to start it. When you turn the ign on you can hear the fuel pump run for around 5 seconds. If you wait to crank the engine until after the fuel pump has stopped the engine will not turn over.
  • BMW 1 Series Coupe E82 - Clutch Failure 11 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The car then decided to totally shut down after several attempts the door decided to open. Once out I called the Fire Brigade who then disconneted the battery due to possible electrical fault? I had to wait in the pouring rain for over an hour for a recovery vehicle to collect the car because it would not lock! Eventually the car was put on a low loader and the car is now back at the dealership in the workshop.
  • Electric Cars 1 Jun 2010 (Forum)
OK, another thread says nothing is happening here, so I started a thread on Electric cars since there's a lot of buzz in the motoring press about them at the moment. My view is that battery electric vehicles do have a bright future as a niche product - small urban electric cars and vans where range is not an important factor.   I think the G-Wiz, though very basic, has paved the way for a generation of better and slightly bigger urban electric vehicles.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 1.4 Non Starter - Urgent help needed 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)

All system was checked ie. fuel injectors, fuses etc..... still will not start. The momentum there but just doesn't seem to have the spark to do so. Booked in to a local garage tomorrow and desperate to know if anyone has had a similar problem and what was the solution.

  • Best supportive gadget to the motorist/car? 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I put forward the the `smart phone` - as you may know, I`ve been getting used to one this last week. 1) you can phone for help 2)Text for help 3)Skype for help 4) Morse code at night for help, with the flash (was it a candle at 20+ miles) 5) Flog it to someone passing by and use the money to go home in a taxi 6) Google maps + built in Sat detection, (find your way out of the Blair Witch Woods) soon to be charge free Sat Nav - thus giving all the dedicated Nav players the boot. 7) You could short out the battery to start a fire to semaphore/smoke signal for help. Any more? Or you may not want help, but instead could offer help, amusement or irritation on forums all around the world - from that remote swamp - with just a transmitter poking over the nearby ridge.
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Engine loses power after 40 mins 17 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have a Mazda 6 sport 2ltr 04 reg, which starts fine, but after about 40 minutes, it start losing power, and when I stop at the lights and run in idle the engine management lights come on and it won't rev over 1500 rpm. This is easily cured by reseting battery. The car then sounds like it's missing. I have taken this to my local mazda dealer, who can find no fault on the computers :-( they have since changed 2 injectors 2/3 and this has not cured the problem either.
  • Volvo S80 (1998 - 2006) - 98 2.9 Compression Problems 9 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The mechanic rebuild the head on this motor 178K and the motor would not start. He killed the battery, recharged it and got running. But at different times the compression now fails sporadically on various cylinders. We took in because number "2 cylinder had no compression. It died on the way. Mechanic pulled head, had it rebuild, motor would not start.
