Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Booking a service, do I take the "extras"? 15 Feb 2010 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/ycn7pwy Looks like the service is £175 (I am assuming that the first 12 month service is an interim service), but on the form there are 4 items that they claim are "Ford recommendations", specifically: * Air con treatment * Pollen filter replacement * Oil-top up * Brake fluid change Elsewhere on the page there are prices for the pollen filter (£39.99), the air con treatment (£29.99) and the brake fluid change (£55). There is no indication of a price for the oil top up. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 04 1.4 Engine losing power 21 Dec 2009 (Forum)
No warning lights come on, and people in the car can't notice it it's so slight. It feels like engine braking to me, but has not caused any major problems. However on the way to work on Friday, it had a major hiccup! I was doing about 45 up a slight hill in 4th, when again I got this feeling like engine braking. -
Old man with a mission, but no hat 24 Oct 2009 (Forum)
When we went through a village with a 40 limit, he drove at 30. In a 30 limit he went at 20. On the rare occasions he touched 45, he braked whenever a car passed coming the other way. When we finally got to a derestricted section where he/we could go faster, he slowly accelerated up to about 45, so I pulled out to overtake. He waited until I was alongside, and then suddenly put his foot down. -
Tucked away 15 Aug 2009 (Ask HJ)

Freckless driving 25 Jul 2009 (Ask HJ)
Just as a matter of interest: I was cleaning my FIAT 500 this week and, horror of horrors, saw “dreaded orange pinprick spots.” My car has been treated... -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Honda Accord 2.4i EX Auto driving experiences 10 May 2009 (Forum)
The suspension is too harsh for most of the time and makes urban driving, which is what I do mostly, knackering 2. I've never been able to get used to the brakes, they always feel as though there's not enough resistance in them which sometimes leads to them feeling very on or off at low speeds (i.e. its hard to brake progressively). I've had this checked by the dealer who insists that they are within specification 3. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.7 DTi Lack of power and PAS problem 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Secondly just today the power steering seems slightly heavier than usual, and doesn't kick in until a 5-10 seconds after starting. Lastly, when I step hard on the brakes there is a grinding sound and feeling. Have had both wheels off and the brake pads are fine (they also sailed through an MOT). What could this be? Any help will be hugely appreciated Minski PS Just quickly do you need to replace the whole unit if the mirror gets smashed? -
Vehicle inspections. 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Oil leaks were not considered a problem by the inspection company . So be warned, an MOT will only cost you £45 and at least they will test the brakes Company name removed in accordance with the name and shame policy -
How far ahead do you look when driving? 7 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The Vauxhall Corsa which had been following, at a speed of approximately 90MPH, overtook me and the car in front, and smashed into the object without braking at all!! It then continued on its way, still not slowing, or braking. It turned out that the object was, in fact, a large black plastic car bumper, which was smashed to smithereens by the impact. -
Advice re "Warranties"/After Sales 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I bought a second hand Honda from a dealership in January, which included a 12 month warranty. From day one the brakes have made a scraping noise when releasing to set off, even when only parked up for a brief while. The car has also always drifted to the left. The salesman explained at the time that the brakes noise was because the car had been parked up for a month, but would resolve itself once driven for a while. -
Advice on lock-up 14 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Driving home tonight I had a last-minute change of mind at some traffic lights (further than I estimated away when they changed to amber plus conscious there was a camera on them) so I braked - harder than normal but not excessively hard. Got quite a surprise when the car veered left and tried to change ends - luckily I controlled it without too much trouble. Now, I'm wondering what would cause this to happen? -
Oh Dear! 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
The offside one was only in by a wing and a prayer, the headlights, although intact, were some 2" behind the bonnet, the grill was now a very loose fit and the bumper looks like it's taken most of the rest of the impact, apart from that absorbed by the near side wing, which now has a disctinctive 'modified' shape to it .... and she was only trying to park! Apparently she mistook the brake for the accelerator (automatic) and, well you can guess the rest! At this risk of HJ mentioning the dreaded left foot braking... I know but... The garage mechanic suggested we did not open the bonnet "Otherwise everything will fall out". -
Life flashed before my eyes! 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Needless to say, l could still here a barrage of lorry horns and other car horns as the loony probably braked hard and tried to slip in behind the lorries again. I stopped my car at the next available place and took a deep breath, laughed and realised that life can be treacherously fragile! -
Kw*k F*t Robbing Shysters 24 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Hello My wife's car - a T reg Fiat Punto with 30 000 miles on it started to show symptoms of requiring new brake pads. She took it to Kw*k Fit for a quote, they removed both wheels and as you can imagine the pads were worn out, however they refused to simply replace the pads - claiming the discs were corroded on the inside ???? -
Police Theft? 17 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Well I know how powerful it is, it's been done. 130 bhp at the wheel. So what? Brakes and front forks/rear damper are upgraded to cope. The bike is absolutely mint, superbly maintained, perfectly safe, recently MOT'd, and I think the police have acted in a totally ridiculous manner, even though they complimented him on his safe riding and speed! -

Fiat Panda - Dodgy Servicing 13 Feb 2025 (Forum)
My daughter took her 14 year old Fiat Panda for £300 service & MOT at a Halfords workshop. They did the service first, then MOT. It failed on imbalanced brakes, front and rear suspension components, a tyre, faulty lights and and exhaust leak. Should those major safety faults not have been identified in the SERVICE and been reported to my daughter ? Should the MOT have been done BEFORE the service ? -
Vauxhall Mokka - Smoke and burning 27 May 2024 (Forum)
Not long after the engine management light came on not too long after along with some sharp jittering of the steering wheel. I think it might just be a brake stuck on, but don’t know why the management light would come on (although the engine bay was rather hot too) any suggestions or guidance would be great thanks l!
