                Ford Focus Estate 2008 - 1.6tdci- Alternator 30 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Alternator is making 14.5-14.6 at idle and right when the battery indicator comes on, lights dim and voltage drops to 13.4-13.6. The alternator is off used car but my opinion is that it-s working fine and something is taking extremly much amperage and cant seem to find what. Battery doesent die form a day to the next and the problem seems to be manifesting when engine is running. Anything I should look for?

Amazon Prime v BBC - The Grand Tour 29 Nov 2016 (Forum)
But the photography in the new format 400 hz ? Is just brilliant . Some references don't travel too week ,such s the reference to Carol Vorderman which met with stony silence. Hats off to Amazon who have given Clarkson the free rein that he never was allowed at the BBC. I'm sure we will see him demolishing his house sometime in the series.

Briggs & Stratton mower sooty 6 Aug 2016 (Forum)
This mower is under 3 years old and is clean with very low mileage (small garden!). I was away last w/e and Mrs S said it felt like it was running short of fuel - it starts to rev itself when it is. (The engine runs at same revs whether clutch is engaged or not). So she filled with unleaded from our usual can - not dirty.

                Hyundai i20 (2009) - MOT Advisory question... 21 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My 2009 5-door Hyundai i20 had its annual MOT and service. The MOT came back with an advisory note: "001 Brake pad(s) wearing thin, front [3.5.1g]" The garage did phone and notify me (saying the pads were "at 90%" -- whatever that means) and was going to charge £108 to replace the front pads, but I declined at the time.

I believe the Z4 is probably more suited to motorway etc, finally is it just me or is the 987's interior looking terribly dated? Any thoughts or suggestion welcome here! Thanks

Reliable diesel for a budget of 4k? 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I almost went for another ford again but don't like the sound of the 1.6 engines with dpf and various other issues. I guess Hyundai i30's could be an option? Many thanks and apologie for the length of the post, I'm really hoping for some decent help.

Volkswagen Polo 1.4 TDi - Gearbox codes confusion 17 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi, My 2006 (56) Polo S 1.4 TDi is in need of a new gearbox. The engine is BNM and the gearbox is HCS, according to the sticker in the service book. Couldn't afford the ideal situation of having my own gearbox rebuilt so found a secondhand one at a distant breakers (no names, no pack drill . . . ) They claimed to have an HCS box available, so I paid for it and awaited delivery.

none - a very strange road indeed 20 Apr 2015 (Forum)
At the entrance to the pedestrianised bit there is a complex sign that reads, from the top: PEDESTRIAN ZONE then there is a red circle with nothing in it, then NO VEHICLES Except for loading No waiting at any time No access for blue badge holders or taxis Seems fairly comprehensive, what? However within this zone M&S have their collect by car bay. So maybe you'd think they bend the rules for that? Well, yes. BUT, er, someone who isn't me (SWIM) regularly parks his car in a fairly random way in the middle of the zone about four times a week.

                Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 automatic gearbox 11 Feb 2015 (Forum)
It wasn't a big problem affecting usability of the car and only occurred occasionally. Several months later the problems became worse with a 'gearbox faulty' and a flash 'S' and 'snowflake' symbol (so the sports and ice modes for gearbox). The car becomes sluggish. The Peugeot dealer repalced the transmission fluid and (I believe) the filter. The problem is continuing and it is back off down to the dealer.

                Talbot Peugeot J5 - Talbot/Peugeot J5 Campervan Gearbox removal 24 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I am trying to remove the gearbox on My 1990 Talbot campervan LHD. The vehicle has the auxillary driver pulley on the n/s (drivers) of the engine. There is a shaft that runs out of the engine and through the top of the bellhousing for the gearbox which is supported by a bearing bracket. I have removed all driveshafts, starter, bell housing bolts ect.

Alfa Romeo 156 - Engine Temperature gauge not working Alfa Romeo156 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I have previously has a Saab 93 with thermostat issues that lead to a head gasket failure in less than a week. So am weary of this 156's issue. I'd be travelling from London to Huddersfield. Is this car a risk or an easy fix? Thanks for reading and any help and advice that can be given

                Yeti 4 x 4 - Skoda Yeti 4x4s in reverse. 25 May 2013 (Forum)
We carefully tried ours on very steep wet grass [famously slippery] field and the Yeti, apart from a surprising clutch-burn smell, was great while our 2 farm Defenders were, to the surprise of none here were slipping about like slippery- s***-off-a-shining-shovel ... as per usual. This is because Defenders notoriously have only a central diff-lock which, sure, sends drive to the front & back axles but then have no limited-slip or locking diffs.

VW Amarok - Amarok AutomaticHJ review 6 Jun 2012 (Forum)
2 - Does the 4WD system on it allow it to be used without transmission wind-up (as per some L200's) as well as the "traditional" 2WD/4WD selection? or is that only possible with the version that has constant 4WD? Thanks Zuave.

FIAT Punto - Power Steering Failure 9 Mar 2012 (Forum)
A certain H****’s manual said how difficult it was to remove the steering motor. I took the plastic cover off the steering column, four bolts, a small socket set removed a further 3 bolts and the motor dropped out, very easy, 10 minutes work.

Citroen C3 - Battery Light Issue 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I've seen on this and other forums that people have had similar problems and had alternators and batteries changed and they haven't fixed the issue, so was wondering if there is a known issue with C3's? Any ideas?

Subarus/other ordinary cars with 4x4 good in snow? 27 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I just wondered what they are like i nthe snow and compacted snow that turns to ice. I've seen a lot of the BMW X5 and X3 "4x4"s (I use the quotes wisely) round here and they seem to get stuck on a bit of frost on the level - all 4 wheels spin round. As do some of the other "fake" 4x4/softroaders. What are the octavia 4x4 and Audi/VW cars with quattro like ????

Citroen - Citroen engine 2.8 oil drained whilst driving 30 Nov 2011 (Forum)
so repair by 3rd party pretty slim I would of thought. THere are plenty of these vans but not many 2.8's so wondered if say the C8 or similar could be used. Been quoted 1000 for replacement engine, with 3 months warranty
