What are the requirements for a "trade terms" sale 29 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi I bought a car from a used car dealer. When we negotiated price I haggled and we agreed £200 less than the windscreen price. Very soon after collecting the car I found out it has a faulty engine. I took the car straight back but they didn't want to know. -
Nissan Micra C+C - Vehicle bought with incorrect service history? 29 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi all I bought a car December 08 from a dealer - used but advertised as having a FSH. I've had the car serviced 3 times from the same dealer since, but when I recently took it to a registered Nissan garage to get a new key programmed, they noticed the warranty and service book were for a completely different car. -
Honda Jazz Crosstar Advance - New member - new car 23 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Hi, I just joined this forum while in the process of buying a new car. We are a retired couple living near the Sussex coast and recently 'lost' our only car - a 20 year old Subaru Outback - when it failed MOT and the estimated cost of repair could not be justified. But as this coincided with a time of us being out of the country for a few months, we have SORNed the Subaru and left it in the car park of our apartment block until such time that we can get back to the UK, retrieve our belongings from the car, clear it and get a few pictures before sending it to the dismantler. -
Volkswagen Touran - Is it worth to buy this fixed cat D car? 24 Jul 2014 (Forum)
They showed us the car photo before repairs and it doesn't seem like a big deal. They are offering 6 month warranty on it. Now the Parkers price estimate for this car is £10K private good condition, £9K poor condition with a mileage of 40K. -
New (used) car choice to replace Mini Cooper 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
It's time for me to get a new car to replace my Mini. I'm not looking for anything like my current car - it was originally my partner's, but various circumstances... -
Peugeot 108 - ECU remap companies any recommendations 28 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I would like to get rid of the initial "slight hesitation" when moving away from stand still. I know they all do this and I have got used to giving it a few extra revs. Now the car is out of warranty, If I can find a reputable company and my insurance company are ok about it then I may well take the plunge. This car is tax free and my 107 is £20 per year. -
Focus ST3 2015 - Ford Sync2 Infotaiment 11 May 2016 (Forum)
Any one on here have the same car and experienced the same thing? Is it a simple fix? I know it's under warranty, but before I start booking and using up time, I just wondered if there is a simple thing I can do before I get to that point. -
Peugeot 206 2003 Coil Pack Failure 29 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A friend rang last night to say that her 206 has been diagnosed with coil pack failure by the Pug dealer. The dealer says that the car has the 'early' system which will be replaced with a later (and one hopes more reliable) version. Car is under 4 years old and has done about 36k. Out of warranty on time, but mileage not high. I've suggested she contact Pug on the basis that the modified coil pack indicates a known problem and that if it had been used more it probably would have failed within the 3 years. -
Punto - seat belt not retracting 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
This is annoying, because I don't notice this has happened and end up trapping the seat belt in the door when I get out the car. It's also a concern - if the belt isn't retracting in 'normal use', what's the effect in the event of an accident? The car is just under two-years old and therefore still has its manufacturer's warranty. -
Suzuki Swift (2005 - ) - Uneven wear on rear tyres 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
To have rear tyres worn out on a front wheel drive car, before the front tyres, is something I have never experienced. The car is now out of warranty and the best Suzuki are prepared to offer is 50% of the cost of the parts, which would leave us with a bill of about £300. -
Jeep Cherokee - Consumer rights with used car? 14 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I asked what was meant by this and they informed me that I was to pay 50% of the overall bill which was £500. I told him that although I had signed that warranty I was under the impression that the garage would meet 100% costs under my consumer rights that the vehicle was not as described. I asked the salesman to confirm again that it had a service before being sold to us and he said yes. -
VW Passat/Ford Mondeo/Mazda 6 - Buying Used: Heart says diesel, head says petrol 10 Nov 2012 (Forum)
My head on the other hand is thinking about cash outlay and risk - I'm now thinking just to go down the naturally aspirated petrol engine route, where the engines are simpler and less to go wrong from a used perspective (i.e. with no warranty). I can get a Mazda 6 hatchback or estate for example that does 39mpg, not bad for a petrol engine. On the other hand I could theoretically get a used diesel engine that will do 50mpg and will never go wrong, but something tells me to steer clear of modern diesels unless there is a significant warranty attached, or they are nearly-new low mileage models. -
Skoda Octavia Estate - Cheap, reliable car 31 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm planning to buy a used car. I live right in central London and won't need to use it much - maybe once or twice a month, with most of the driving being longer trips outside London. I reckon I'll only do about 3-4k miles per year. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 06 2.2 Water in the footwell 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The fault still appeared to be there occasionally. The car went in again in February 08 for the same fault. This time the dealer found no fault. But the fault still appeared to be there. Fast Forward to October 09. The car went in for an MOT in mid October and I asked Ford to look into the fault again as the warranty was nearly up. -
Peugeot 307 - Warrantywise won't pay 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)
3 rd reason - Warrantywise requested VAT registered invoices for previous servicing, I was the owner from 2011 they wanted me to get servicing invoices from 2005-2011. This was bizarre as Warrantywise are a used car warranty company and it would be difficult to get invoices for servicing from previous owners. 4 th reason – Invalidated my warranty policy until all servicing invoices where provided. -
Dacia Duster - Used Dacia Duster – why so many nearly new? 25 Jun 2024 (Forum)
I'm suspicious that someone is just selling on a problem, whereas with 2020 I can see they'll have gone pass the 3-year warranty. Any thoughts? Anything I should watch out for? Would the 2022 car be worth a look? I'd really value any pointers as we've not bought a car since 2012! -
Decent garage for servicing 9 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking at having a local independent garage do the work but struggling to find one. Because it's a Mitsu I can't find any local specialists and the mechanic I normally use isn't VAT registered which I would need for the warranty. I phoned around a couple and was given wildly varying prices from £150 to £220+Vat I am likely to have a warranty claim for rust on the car (it's not even 3 yet!!!) -
Oil Use - Nissan Primera 19 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I have a 98 2.0 Nissan Primera which seems to be using a lot of oil. I has gone from max on the dipstick to min in just under 2000 miles. I average about 500 miles of mainly motorway driving a week. The car has a Nissan Approved warranty and when they looked at it they said they could find nothing obvious and filled it up and told me to check it after a 1000 miles. -
Engine failure 8 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I bought this car from an Audi dealer four an a half years ago, the car is now over six years old. It has always been serviced by the main dealer, almost exactly to the schedule (I do 10k miles pa). It has now done 61500 miles. -
Buying nearly new - what to check? 23 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I have my eye on a 2015 car with 3.5k miles. I've bought used before, but nothing with any warranty left and not from a main dealer! I'm versed in the usual things to look at and questions to ask, but this is rather different to buying a 5-year-old motor.
