  • Focus running temperature 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My Wife inherited a "W" reg 2.0lt Focus Ghia two months or so and it came with fsh (not all Ford) and 48k miles. We are very pleased with the car but even after a short run it "Smells" hot. Lift the bonnet and the heat hits you and when you switch off the engine, it creaks with the sound of metal contracting. It does not use any water or oil and the temperature gauge remains steady, just under the half way point.
  • BMW 730 electrical 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Died with an electrical fault last week and has been in the garage - they replaced the cranshaft sensor and then got it running, although then the oil warning light popped up. They switched it off then to check the level and then it wouldn't start again. That lot cost me £200 quid and I still have a non running car. Would really like to get it running again if possible but am not great with electrics.
  • Astra 1.4 losing power on start up 17 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I've been having trouble with my Astra 1.4 K reg (petrol) car when I first start the engine. It loses power and judders, then suddenly returns to normal power. When the car has been running for about 5 minutes everything is fine and the car runs normally. Any ideas what may be causing this? incidentally the choke has always been faulty since I purchased the car requiring me to keep on revving the engine until the engine runs normally without cutting out.
  • Short runs, engine life 19 Jun 2003 (Forum)
However purely from a mechanical point of view, is a diesel engine or a petrol engine more likely to sustain more damage if used for short runs? on a second note and a question to Xantia owners. when the suspension is raised to its maximum height, is there enough clearance under the car for someone to tuck in, without needing to jack up the car any more.
  • super unleaded fuel 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
My father runs a 1999 Saab 9-3 2.0i light pressure turbo which averages about 35mpg rising to 46-47mpg on long motorway runs. Does anyone know if there would be any benefits in running the car on super unleaded?
  • Omega Diesel - Rough Idle Running 12 Mar 2001 (Forum)
This is the BMW unit. When the engine gets to full operating temperature tickover becomes lumpy. Otherwise it runs fine. I recently replaced the inlet manifold gaskets as part of a glowplug replacement, so it's not pulling in air. The problem was there prior to this. I use Millers Dieselclean Plus as recommended by HJ.

  • Skoda Octavia 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I'm thinking of buying an Octavia diesel, does anyone know of any faults, expensive repairs etc. And would the SDi be any better, cheaper to run than the TDi. I'm not really bothered about speed, just economy and cheap running costs. Thanks in advance.

  • Peugeot 806 - Peugeot 806 Running Problems 7 Jul 2013 (Forum)
If I take the wires off of the common rail pressure sensor, it will drive without cutting out and it doesn't run on when you switch it off, but it still has the light on and still won't rev past 3000rpm and it runs very rough. I have fitted a new common rail pressure sensor thinking it may be that (£120 worth) but it is still the same.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 1998 1.8 X18XE1 ECU failure? 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm being told that is not the injector that is faulty but the ECU. The behaviour is consistent, it will start fine when cold and run without any error lights and seems to be running fine (again the odd vibration from the engine seems to suggest a misfire now and again) until warmed up then it goes to 3 cylinders and runs like crap.
