MINI Hatch - Wheel bearing sound after shock absorber replaced 2 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Hi everyone, my 2012 MINI Cooper failed it's MOT 3 weeks ago on 'Nearside Front Shock absorbers has a serious fluid leak'. This came up as an advisory a year ago so wasn't that surprised. Anyway, the mechanic changed the shock absorber and it passed the MOT. -
Mini Cooper - Trade sale gone sour 17 Oct 2021 (Forum)
For context, I have taken over a family motor trade business and looking for some advice on the following: Recently sold a 55 plate Mini Cooper - trade sale - and customer informed me 2 weeks after purchase that the breaks had failed. Car had recently passed MOT, and customer had fully inspected vehicle and signed to acknowledge there were no mechanical faults present at time of sale. -
Mercedes-Benz B-Class, Kia Venga, Hyundai iX20 - Best used mini-MPV/compact car? 6 Mar 2021 (Forum)
This would be a first car, so on the one hand I want something small (think a second hand Citroen C1, or Mazda 2) but cannot find anything like that with a higher driver seat, but as I also want a slightly bigger boot than the C1, I started looking at these mini-MPVs. Guess I also have to consider insurance, and am unsure which of these is better in that way. Can you suggest some options, or have any ideas on how reliable these cars are? Can probably afford max £3500. -

Dont know much about Mini cars maintenance costs/ problems. Please let me know what you think, thanks for reading. -
Mito v 500 v MINI One 24 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I'm of after anything big, or even that will be used that often but with ok pace and won't lose me massive amounts in parts etc over the next 3-5 years... I've found a MINI ONE with the 1.6 engine (2010) with a.c. And the tlc pack for £8700 with 22,000 miles, I suspect this is the most sensible investment. However, I've also driven a FIAT 500 mtwinair, and in the lounge trim I quite like this. -
stolen keys again 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Firstly a cautionary tale and also any useful extra info will be gratefully received. We were burgled a few days ago with a Mini Cooper S being stolen from the drive. They also took keys for a nearly new Audi A6 but not the car (? why). Mini has been recovered with minimal damage but effectively we have one missing and one spare set of keys for each car. the Audi was taken away by the insurance company as it was at risk of being stolen by the culprit returning for second dibs. -
Good salesmen - Skoda and MINI 25 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Then Wood at Odiham was another very pleasant experience - for Stuart the sales manager too as he persuaded SWMBO to chop in her 2004 Civic for a new MINI. Both garages are family-owned - I am sure this is significant. In fairness I should say that our experience of Marshall Honda and Greenoaks Mercedes, both in Reading, have so far been excellent, both for sales and service. -
Solving a friend's Mini 'problem' 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
A friend just bought a Mini Cooper 500 LE, two years old, one of the last of the old ones, from a specialist, for use as a fun second car. He paid £8495 but got a very, very generous trade in on his M plate Cooper - he actually made a profit of about £1500 (!) -

Driving without a great deal of thought 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Our health centre is on a newish development at the end of a cul-de-sac, with the gateway facing the flow of traffic. Just before the end of the road there is a mini-roundabout painted on the road to allow for a possible new road in the future going off to the right as you approach the health centre. The land on both sides is completely open, and it's obvious there's no road to the right, but most drivers (when visiting and leaving the health centre) still slavishly drive around the mini-roundabout instead of driving straight over it. -
FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - The new one. 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Very cute little car, which with the ivory interior will go down a storm with the girls, I'm sure. Less aggressive/sporty than a MINI. Will doubtless be highly profitable for Fiat given its low cost base (Panda platform and Polish labour) but I think its downfall in this country will surely be the dealers? The MINIs success is largely down to the skill of BMW dealers who are on a different planet from your average Fiat dealer. -
Cooper S Stiff Gearchange 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Just traded in my 03 Ibiza TDI Sport for a 55-plate Mini Cooper S, and after a few days have noticed that the gearchange and clutch both seem to be pretty heavy - there's absolutely no way you can just 'slap' it into gear like I could with the Ibiza when a quick gearchange was required. -

What's small, reasonably reliable, has a bit of oomph and costs less than £8,000 (and isn't a Mini)?
