  • Vauxhall Vectra B 2002 Z18XE - Loss of power 3 Feb 2012 (Forum)
A compression test and fuel pressure test were both fine. I have since disconnected the Lambda Sensor and Knock sensor making no difference to the performance at all.
  • Mazda 6 - Sluggish performance 24 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It had it's last 'full' service 8k miles ago and an oil change 1k miles ago. I have used 'redex fuel injector' in my last 4 tankfuls - hasnt made a single difference I give my car an 'italian tuneup' once a fortnight or so involving 5-10 minutes of around 4k rpm on the motorway Could it just be that the engine it getting old now?
  • Citroen c3 1.4hdi - Poor starting 16 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Pulls away ok. If you restart the engine while warm is starts no problem. I have checked the low pressure fuel pipes, replaced the spill pipes and injector clips. It looks like I am getting air in to the diesel or it waits until it has built up pressure before it will start. Any advice would be great.
  • Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 cdti 2005 - smoking diesel 15 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I was driving it home last night and my girlfriend was behind me and i noticed the car was blowing dark smoke (not blue) when the turbo came on boost. no smoke on normal running, only when on boost. i also noticed the fuel gauge has dropped a bit more than it should... im hoping its not the turbo, ive heard it could be injector seals.... one person has told me just to put an injector cleaner through it, not sure that will help...
  • Nissan Primera Primera P12 2.2dCi - Vacuum Pump parts failure 27 Sep 2011 (Forum)
It looks as if this may be a common fault as these engines reach high mileage. I remember my father, in the 1960's/70's, sometimes substituting a mechanical fuel pump for an electric pump. Could I do the same with this vacuum pump and where can I find one?
  • ford mondeo - diesel mondeo sos 30 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I was then able to restart but then the engine wouldn’t go above 2,000 rpm I called the AA who plugged in a diagnostic device that came up with codes p0216 p0335 p1246 p1608 p1665 b2139. I know that the numbers relate to fuel pump and crankshaft sensor. The car no longer starts and I have already tested the crankshaft sensor which is okay. Im now at a complete loss on what to do,  does anyone have any ideas
  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 1999 2.5TDi - Engine cutting out . . . help 13 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Have changed filters, cleaned tank, diagnositics not able to narrow it down, could be electrics or fuel pump - don't want to throw money at it randomly/ Anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it. After cutting out I switch the ignition off and can start up straight away, no problems and can either run 5 weeks with no problems or 2 days!
  • Golf 1.6 auto 2002 - Won't start from hot or after short journeys 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I've changed three different sensors; 02 sensor, Cam sensor and lambert sensor.  Changed the ignition coil pack which was corroded and the fuel pressure gauge.  The VW dealer can't find anything wrong and nothing is coming up on the diagnostics.  whatever the problem is, is killing the sensors in the car.  I've spent so much but I am ready to admit defeat.
  • VECTRA 2006 1.9 CDTI - 2006 VECTRA 1.9 CDTI STARTING PROBLEMS 27 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have recently started having problems trying to start my car first time in the morning, It will turn and turn for around 30 seconds before firing up at times I have to do this twice before it will fire up. I have had the glow plugs changed, the fuel return pipes renewed, the return pressure valve replaced and full service carried out, still the problem exists. Once the car has been started in the morning it will start first time for the rest of the day with no fault lights or any other problems.
  • VW Polo Mk4 - Warning Lights 27 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Last week I left my lights on over night, and of course had a flat battery in the morning - RAC fixed it no problem, but the air bag light came on straight after I started up. Today after filling up with fuel, the engine managment light is now showing amber. This is not the only problem, a couple of months ago whilst driving all the lights on the dash board lit up, all bleeped, the clock reverted back to 0.00, and the trip reading also did this.
  • Which do you like 20 Jul 2011 (Forum)
My headache is coming on again. There are just so many excellent cars these days. Needs are reliability, frugal fuel, prefer diesel, largest luggage capacity possible  (given overall size--estates are OK) safety, comfort. HELP Please. And thank you.
  • Vauxhall 1.6 VVT engine in current Astra/Zafira 10 Jul 2011 (Forum)
From what I have read, the two main comments out there (on the web...) are that they are sluggish and suffer very poor fuel consumption. My current car is a 1.8 vectra estate, which we find to be OK. Also, does anybody have any experience of the 1.6 VVT (same engine) in the Zafira - it is just that they do appear to be very good value at the moment (or should I say cheap!)
  • Smart Fortwo - vibration 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My local garage Smart Truro had the car twice, second attempt found a broken heat schield, this replacement under warranty has lessoned the sound level but not the cause.Any suggestions as the car will shorlly be returning to Smart Truro further investigation of the cause and my ongoing moan regarding fuel consumption at 34mpg I feel this to be excessive. I have been given the usual response of it will improve after 3000 miles, it has done this and no it has not improved. I have noted that other owners have been told after 6000 miles things will improve.
  • Volkswagen Golf - (SDI) Head gasket failure or over cautious? 31 May 2011 (Forum)
However, it was very dark grey - not the colour I'd been led to believe typical of HGF. Dip stick looked normal. Took the car for a short spin (barely enough fuel to get far enough for it to warm up). I know an SDI will be agricultural sounding - having owned and driven one for 8 years. However, this really did sound RUFF. It was priced quite keenly for an indie dealer (however several interior cosmetic faults was their reason for low price).
  • any - Real MPG on HJ website 5 May 2011 (Forum)
Saw with interest the new part of HJ website about real fuel consumption. Average on a recent 1400 mile touring trip to france and belgium in an Epica 2.0 turbo diesel with 3 on board plus all our bagage was (I thought) an excellent 42mpg. drove at motorway speeds up to a true 85mph where allowed on motorways, so very pleasantly surprised. here in old blighty can generally get 45mpg by sticking to true 70mph on our motorways, that is close to what chevrolet claim, so not too bad for a large heavy car.
  • Scenice 1.9Dci - Renault Scenic warning message 15 Apr 2011 (Forum)
hi there ,  I keep getting a message saying that i should have a "control "on the injection ( its a french car so hence the translation ) , I have taken it ti a couple of renault garages here in Frane and 1 fitted a new fuel filter which seemed ok for a couple of days then the message came back ; the other garage says that they cannot find a fault at all .   basically it seems to come on everytime i am driving uphill , the car seems to have no power and is sluggish then the message lights up .

  • Possible Replacements 27 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Car is a focus sized saloon car, has a diesel engine which produces just over 150BHP and has 147,000 miles on clock, is elven years old and averages 47 mpg, and covers 11,000 miles a year If replacing it I would like to have something of the same size ,power, and fuel costs. If I went for a petrol it would need to average 45mpg, and insurance would have to be group 8 or less Total budget would be £1500 to £2000 Suggestions of possible replacements please, or would I be better off having repairs done.
