Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.8 LPG factory conversion using water 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi, my first post on this forum so go easy on me. I bought a 53 plate lpg factory conversion last summer and it's been driving great since i got it. However last week the radiator water warning light came on and i discovered that it has been consuming water. I drove about 140 miles and it went through about two liters of water. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1998 1.6 Engine Revs by itself 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
This is my sister's car and most of the time it drives alright, however when driving around town in stop/start traffic, the engine rev's will increase by itself upto c.2000rpm. Sometimes a quick flick on the throttle will cure it as if the throttle cable is sticking, however I have checked the cable and sprayed the throttle linkage with WD40. -
Dangerous junction near Southampton 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Along this road, on the west side ( east side is the Hilton Hotel) there is a Total filling station which is pretty busy as people suss it is the last before the M3. To exit this station and take the M3, requires in effect driving across the non-motorway slip almost at right angles to exiting traffic, to join the M3 slip. It seems like an extraordinarily badly-designed junction , since it invites traffic to drive across a fast-moving slip road. -
Claim dilemma - work vs personal insurance 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My immediate reaction was that it should be claimed off the work insurance, but can you claim for damage to your own vehicle that you caused whilst driving another one? And would his own insurance cover it if he knows how it happened and who was driving? I left before the discussion finished but he was erring towards trying to get his own insurance to cover it, but not sure if this was out of "trying to keep it quiet" from the boss! -

Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - Front Suspension spring broken - just passed mot! 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My main concern is that this was not discovered a little while ago by the Vauxhall service & mot team - is this something that should be picked up on? If so, is there some legal comeback? I can still drive the car with no obvious affect at present and would like to drive it the 100miles home, for my brother to fit a new coil. Anyone experienced this, and would it cause more damage to do so? Thanks. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 2.0Tdci Engine Management/Fuel Problem 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
It seems to happen for no apparent reason. This is then followed by a period when the car drives roughly for a while. It then settles back to normal. The Main Dealer has checked out management sytems etc. and is baffled. Anybody any ideas. RNBW. -
KIA Picanto (2004 - ) - It never rains, but pours :( 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
It is now loosing a 1/3 of its oil every 5 miles, more so as it warms up, which will make the 8 mile drive to the garage on monday, er, interesting and rather smokey! Is there any safety aspect to the oil going onto the hot exhaust? Im going to pressure wash the underside of the car sunday to get rid of whats already there and reduce the smoke as much as possible but Im worried it will get catastrophic before I arrive so should I worry or just not look at the smoke as I driving along? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 2.0 Car wont start 18 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi I accidently drove over a bump recently with my 97 306 XSi . No initial damage to the under carriage was immediatly evident. Even after driving 70 miles home, the car seemed fine. The next morning however, after starting the car fine and driving for a mile the engine cut-out. I had it towed to a garage where the mechanic said that my sump was cracked and that the Peugeot 306 was designed to force the engine to cut out if oil loss occured so as to avoid further damage. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2001 2.0T Top engine mount replacement 9 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Found what I hope is the cause of increasingly noticeable on/off throttle jerkiness and an odd click / clonk sound when taking up drive in reverse, or the first time taking up drive in 1st after reversing - the top engine mount has a dirty great crack down the middle of the rubber, and has acres of freeplay. I'm going to change it this weekend (parts in stock at GSF) and in the absence of any form of workshop manual for the car, just wanted to confirm it's as straightforward as it looks. -
Suzuki Ignis II (2003 - 2007) - 04 1.5 Recharge of Air con 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I drive an Ignis Sport 04 (April 2004 -25,000 mls), and I noticed today that my Air Con was not cooling the car at all, it seems to have stopped giving out cold air. In fact, it seems to have been gradual because it has not been giving out cold air in the past 3 weeks or so. -
Truck menaces cyclist 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
This thing nearly knocked me off the bike, and then proceeded to weave like a sports car to avoid oncoming traffic, in the process knocking branches off high trees. I caught up with the thug at the next traffic light , began berating the moron driving the truck ( he looked the type to usually drive a one headlamp old BMW ) , but he gave me two fingers and screamed off at speed again I noted down his reg - it was liveried and belonging to a well known firm in the soft drinks business - am still seething 3 days - this guy will kill someone. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2005 Diesel - Low oil level 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I am currently driving arund the the company pool car which is a diesel Golf. Quite a nice car in many ways - nothing special but quite nice to drive. After a long run [Bristol to Hove] I switched the engine off and upon restarting was told that the oil level was low. -
What is it island lane markings ! 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
SWMBO tells me often that my driving around islands is not correct. It seems I am always in the wrong lane and / or indicating incorrectly. However since my driving is of course perfect, I blame the lane markings around large islands. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.4 Engine cut out whilst driving 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi I was on the motorway doing a steady 70mph and without warning the engine cut out. There was no sound or judda made when it happened. I popped it... -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2004 1.9TDI Intermittent Loss of Power. 29 Jul 2008 (Forum)
A week or two later, the problem recurred and the car is now back with the dealer again, who is trying to recreate the fault, presumably by driving it around. I have read suggestions of an air mass meter fault, or a turbo variable vane problem. Any more thoughts or suggestions out there, please? -
Gatwick - Meet and Greet Parking 11 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My wife on the other hand has other ideas: what if they nick your car (a bit unlikely since I drive an Avensis), what if they crash it en-route etc. I guess her suspicion derives from this being a novel idea to her. Has anyone got any experiences, good or bad, of these type of operations? -

Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.6 - Cambelt change intervals - under used car 1 May 2008 (Forum)
I did this today and no smoke on start-up, but a bit if white mist as it ticked over (could this just be condensation - if might just need a good drive??). I also wondered if the cambelt or pulleys might suffer from under use? Does anyone know the service intervals on a 1.6i Duratec petrol? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
