VW Passat 06 2litre turbo sports 06 plate - Loss of power when accelerating 5 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The AA guy (motorway) could find no fault codes when he plugged in and rescanned the system (after clearing all the old faults). I then took it to a local garage but no faults were showing. After today's incident, I will take again to a local garage as the fault code should now be there. The car has recently had a full service. -
Many - Cost of spares 22 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Same for tyre pressure sensors. There is a move to make tyre pressure sensors mandatory on new cars and I've heard that any car fitted must have them working in order to pass the MOT. Time for a petition? -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Cambelt replacement costs. 14 Apr 2011 (Forum)
My car (in December) will be four years old and I have just booked it in for its second variable service, although the onboard 'computer' says about another 100 days but I don't want it going into the garage in the cold December months. -
Parking outside school 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The school has been very good at encouraging parents to walk and have painted a single yellow line on the school side of the road 50m either side of school. Usually parking is not to bad and the yellow line seems to work, cars park further away and on side streets for example. But in the rain today the pavement outside school was full of cars parked mainly on the pavement, leaving about a third of a pavement width. As if this wasn't enough to make me cross, my 4 year old bashed his head on a wing mirror of a car parked on the pavement and cried all the way home. -
SEAT Ibiza II 1.4 VW AEX engine - Noisy tappets & engine vibrates with aircon 16 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Any idea if they will cure themselves with it being hydraulic tappets or is replacement only option? (its an old car dont want to spend out on it), drives ok i guess though.Speedo reads 129,000 ms (80k miles) but based on the crook i bought it off, it6s prob false. plus when the aircon is on the car struggles. -
Vauxhall Signum 1.9tdi (120bhp) - V'hall Signum - EGR valve - crystal balls anyone? 7 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Should I cut and run, getting another car? The Signum was brought with 7k on the clock, in the knowledge it's a high depreciator (I got a lot of car for the money) my prefered intention is to run it for another 3 years putting a further 75k on the clock. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 96 1.6 Auto - Died, now won't start 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi hope someone can offer some advice, my mrs bought this car a few days ago and it has died already! Obviously it is quite an old motor but it looked in great condition, was an older disabled ladies car and she seemed very genuine, so I was quite surprised that this has happened. -
Learner driver - must it be ins. group 1 only? 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My question is this: how important is the insurance group in the decision of which car to get? Obviously we're not going to get something in, say, Group 10, but does it make a big big difference in insurance premium if we got a Gp 4 car as against a Gp 1, where the choice is really thin? -
happy new year from oz 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
People mimse along relaxedly on mostly very fine empty roads in NSW anyway. This despite the presence of many old and new V8 engined cars and utes with fruity aftermarket exhausts. The Aussies like their cars. I have been driving my SiL's deadpan high-mileage Daewoo. a bit foxed around the edges but fingers crossed still OK. -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Fading of Red Paintwork 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now I know that red cars do fade, so I'm not disappointed or angry. Also, I thought this had been covered in previous posts but couldn't find anything on a search. So, our 5 year old Jazz in Monaco Red (solid colour) has slight fading of its paintwork on the front edge of the bonnet and on the roof. -
European Breakdown Cover 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Just been looking at the recent post, 'Breakdown cover, too much choice!' Made me look at Europ Assist as the premium looked good for european cover. My car now 10 yrs old and quoted at £85, against the £135 from Green Flag for annual cover. However just come up with major problem if you DIY service. Europ Assist say have to carry proof of regular service from garage with insce docs. -
Volvo V50 (2004 - ) - 2005 - Faulty electrics 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The warranty runs out on my 3 year old car in March. We have had intermitent problems with the electrics: faulty temperature gauge which affects a/c; windows fail, central locking problems etc. The car has been returned to the Main Dealer under warranty and some of these problems appear to have been resolved through replacement of the door wiring looms. -
loss of NCB due to road conditions 28 Dec 2007 (Forum)
We also discovered that there had been at least 4 cars off on the same stretch of road within a small timescale. Her car has been declared a write off and she has lost her 2 years NCB, her Insurance premium was previously £400 but on getting quotes with her claim this has now increased to about £1200. -
Small accident, disputing agreed value of 'classic' 15 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I slightly bumped the back of a 27 year old "classic" VW Beetle. The rusty bumper bent as well as the one of the bumper supports. Speaking, later, to the VW owner, it transpires there is lots of damage, including: engine lid, rear valence, fan, whole exhaust system, bumper, bumper supports and the car is not really drivable - inspite of him driving off) Also, this VW is has an agreed value of £4000 ! -
What defines a 'modern classic'? 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I've recently been mulling over what defines a 'modern classic' when it comes to cars. My 1989 Citroën CX GTi Turbo is now in need of a bit of bodywork fettling, and I can't decide whether it's worth spending the £££s or just calling it a day and accepting that - to most folk - it's just an 18 year-old unpopular car with a propensity for rust and 'unreliable dodgy suspension'. -
Reliable cars? Seems not 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Bumped into an old friend of mine today whom I had not met for several years. Years ago he ran a garage and was one of the best 'body men' I knew. Bad health and family problems led him to give up the business and last I heard he was driving a lorry doing recovery work. -
Volvo 850 GLT 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
When i engage drive or reverse i have to press hard on the footbrake to stop it moving. It seems it is pushing the car to go forward. i have driven automatics and know that when you engage drive the car will creep forward and not leap forward. I have walked away from that car but want to know the cause of the problem so i am 'wiser' when i look at another volvo which would you recommend? -
The best Frrcycled car yet? 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Some stats: -> 50k miles on this engine -> Reasonably new paint job -> very little (significant) rust -> New welds underneath -> New tyres -> All electrics work I want to keep the stereo Needs -> a new roof lining -> a new hatch (or some work on the old one) -> probably a bit more welding underneath within a year or so -> freeing up of some moving parts. Been sitting for a few months. SHE IS FAST AS HELL ITSELF. I even have a spare car for spares. -
Lessons learned the hard way! 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
And the key that locked it resolutely refused to unlock it, despite much practised jiggling. Of course it was the car that doesnt have a spare key to hand (or safely stowed in a plastic money bag under the front bumper). The only tool to hand was a blunt chisel from a friendly builder, so my solution was to carefully cut out the tailgate glass rubber, and send in an agile 10 year old to open the car. -
Jaguar X-type or which? 30 May 2006 (Forum)
