• Ford Fiesta - Radiator fan not working causing overheating 17 Aug 2014 (Forum)
  Had to call AA out and found that the fan was not kicking in. To keep me on the road he modified to wiring by bridging to the battery making it run permanently but was unsure what was causing the issue. He did state that the head gasket didn't seem to be a problem and water pump was not making any noises. The problem I now have is where do I start to try and get this fan working again.

    This seems to be an intermittent problem as does not happen all the time, the other thing i noticed is when it does this not all of the locks have opened on the car, could this be an issue with the alarm,immobiliser or battery? or something completely different?   Any help would be much appreciated as it is causing me a right headache especially when it wont start in an awkward place i.e petrol station!!!

  This looks like a more decent price, and could give me the smooth take off, refinement and high economy that I wish for. ( anyone know what its like at mway speeds ?  ) Against would be 4 seat only, battery life and uncertain depreciation.   Any thoughts ?

  Hi - looking for and tips as to what may have prevented starting. Car working fine, battery charged and cables tight. Parked up but on return a few minutes later failed to start when key turned - no sign of starter motor engaging at all - lights and all other electrics working ok. Rocked   car in ‘gear’ and pulled round engine a bit with fan belts.

  Recently, when the malfunction has occurred I`ve resorted to disconnecting the positive terminal of the battery for some ten minutes or so and then reconnecting. This again solves the problem for a few days. I`ve had it suggested that the problem may lie with a relay but the Haynes manual does not identify the relays or their functions.

  I assume then that this is an electrical fault, but where to start? I disconnected the battery and unplugged each connector from the internal fuseboard and reconnected to check for loose connections, but nothing there. I cannot see any relays on the interal fusebaord. Are they contained within it?

  After standing for a while as no longer needed for commuting, I was about to put the battery back on the car, when I found the passenger carpet was wet. That led to discovering water in the fusebox! I cleaned all the places, gutters, etc under the bonnet yesteray hoping that I was solved.

  In the past this normally corrects itself.  This time it seems the fault is permanent. I have tried the obvious changing battery and trying the spare to no avail. Any advice!?

  Called RAC out and they ran diag tests on it and couldn't find anything wrong with it. The tested alternator and battery and said they were fine. They were at a loss. It only seems to happen now when I turn left in to a car parking space, I.e. Slowing to a stop and steering left. Also, the car will take a while to start on the odd occasion.

  My car has developed a curious fault, being that the front windscreen wipers start to operate at random while the car is stationary, locked and alarmed (ie. fully immobilised).  When the car has been parked for a while inevitably the battery becomes flat with one occasion when the alarm activated (am unsure if this was due to external interference though).  Prior to my ownership the car had a new heater matrix fitted so was concerned if the wiring had been disturbed but all appears to be intact.

  Sunday did the pull back thing twice with my wife during day and after she finished work in evening wouldn't start. lights on dash but half heatred grunt then nothing. tried jump start no wroking, then charge battery and tried again yesterday with no change. Any ideas as i've lost faith in this car now!

  I bought a used Nissan Micra (2005) about 10 days ago from Auto Bristol ltd but the engine faulty light came on just after a week. (I couldn’t drive the car for a week after I bought it because the battery was completely dead – had to call AA twice to get the car started). Auto Bristol refered me to a garage and I went there twice (yesterday from 9.15 – 5.30pm). Each time the guy managed to make the light disappear but the light came back on again (and stay on) the minute I drove the car back.

  Initially i thought it might of had a bad earth but after bridging a lead from the negative terminal to the engine hoist bracket it still wouldn't turn over even tried another battery but nothing. Hopefully someone can help. Rich.

  Had to call out breakdown and he managed to get it started but only after about 2 hours later. Drove it home about 7 miles, tries to start it again and it just turned over until the battery started to go flat. Left it for another couple of hours, hooked it up to jump start it and it eventually started again, let it run for 10 minutes or so, stopped it and then it wouldnt start again.

  after 2.5 utterly trouble free years, sudden no go. Whirring sound from starter (not a click) and engine will not fire. Battery seems fine (lights good etc). did move it around the driveway the other day (last time it was moved) which I've never done before, but apart from that nothing unusual. MoT coming up and it doesn't owe us anything, but it has always driven beautifully and started first time.

    In 2nd gear the revs aren't going higher than 3000, but when it does cut out, i have to disconnect the battery and reconnect, and then it starts again after about 1 minute.  I set of and the revs are normal, i change up to 2nd and the revs won't go above 3000.  Any ideas?   Thanks Mark

  This is the first time this has happened, do we think this has something to do with the cold? I'm pretty sure the batteries are fine in the fobs, they were both working yesterday and over a large distance. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

  My volvo 940 went in for it's MOT 2 weeks ago and passed. 2 weeks later and car wouldn't start so called the AA out. Firstly battery is dead and needs a new one. Noticed ABS pump leak, needs a new one. Even though i had filled up the oil prior to MOT it was bone dry. Dash light indicator hadn't come on. Refilled the oil, started engine and it was pouring out grey smoke.

  Also the engine service warning comes on and sometimes the alarm service warning comes on. I have replaced the battery aswell. This is costing a fortune in parts and code readings. The car is driving fine. The other warning is engine temp is high and the gauge goes of the scale but it's not over heating. I can start the car sometimes with no warnings.
